I have a High Quality video file on my computer that I would like to transfer to an external hard drive, however my computer wont let me move such a large file -4.5 gigs. Is there a program that can handle the transfer of larger files?

    thanks

I don't know. You should be able to move any file you want. Is the external drive being recognized?

yea its recognized...its a common problem people run into but I dont want to have to reformat it because there is already a ton of stuff on there (I was told it will erase whatever is on it..??) and my computer cant store the files if wanted to move it all to the computer to re format it...or something like that.

yes, if you reformat a drive all the data is lost. if you're external HD is bigger than your internal HD you could compress the files down to .zip and see if they would be under the size limit but I don't know if you want to go through all that.

alngp is correct. You should be able transfer those files with ease.

Maybe the file is corrupt or there isn't enough space on the external hd.

Probably because the external drive format is FAT32, which has a 4GB size limit per file. Either make the file smaller to fit under 4GB or reformat the external drive to NTFS.

sign up for an account at 4shared.com . they're 4 gigs each. if you have certain things that you just can't lose then put those there and reformat the drive.

yes, if your drives are FAT then you want them to be NTFS.

Please tell me it's not a porn file. You wouldn't believe how many people tried to return a USB drive to the student store because they couldn't squeeze a 7-8GB porn vid on a flash drive. :tongue2:

I dont know why I didnt think about it but I could zip the movie file and see if it gets under 4 gigs. That should work right??? well im compressing it now so we shall see.

It should. If it doesn't then it's another problem.

It's the built-in format out of the box and usually it's good enough for most users.
