I'm fine with all 10 options, and think that many of them are actually necessary. I would prefer to try and bring Cameron back at a lower salary than move on from him, but he can't come back close to his current number. I'd also like to try Taylor at FS. There isn't much to lose by doing so.

1. cutting Quinton Couples would result in having to replace him (est savings 1.5 m)

2. resturcture Suh.....ah yes bump the money until next year - ok but remember one thing, as of now there are only 24 players under contract next year and we will have to sign about 30 with about 60 mill. (savings 18 mil)

3. dudes insane - restructuring is not an option, cutting him and resigning him opens him to possibly looking elsewhere for another deal. If Im Cam Wake I would test the waters.
Cutting or trading him saves 8.4 mill and then he has to be replaced - est savings 4.5 m)

4. Brent Grimes we can restructure and bump to next next season 3.5 of his salary, or we can cut him and replace him saving an estimate of (3m saved)

5. Jordan Cameron - nonsense this guy does not know what he is talking about 5.5 of the 7.5 would come off the books 2m will be dead and then we have to replace him (est net 3m)

6. Dion Jordan - More BS 3 m of his 6.2 salary would stay on the books. then we would have to replace him (est net 0)

7. Greg Jennings - 1.5 of his 5.5 is dead. If we cut him we again have to replace him (est savings 1m)

8. Koa Misi solid yes - worth cutting and taking our chances not so sure 1.2 m is dead, replacing him with an unknown (3.7 saved - new player = est 1.5 saved)

9. Brice McCain - 1 m of his 3.5 m is dead. If we cut him we have to replace him (est savings 0)

10. Jamar Taylor - cut him .25 m dead, savings of .9m - then have to replace him - good luck at that salary (est savings -1.5m)

so totaling up this guys 10 easy ways to make us cap solvent:

about 30 mil - 5 m over = net of 25m if we do what he suggests with a bunch of new unknowns on the roster

We then have the draft and free agency to contend with. Lot more work needed

 

Because of Dion Jordan's suspension I am pretty sure that none of his current salary is guaranteed and there would be no cap hit to cutting him

I think most of these moves are coming, and wouldn't have a problem with any except Suh, it just doesn't make any sense to restructure his contract this year.

The only reason it would make sense to restructure his contract this year would be if if they thought they were making a SB run next year and had 1 piece they had to sign, because this restructure would mortgage the future.

Restructuring his 28.6 mil this year would just create a 26.6 year, and another 28.6 year and then a 24.9 year, fix one problem year and create 3 more? Why? So we can win the offseason again? That simply isn't a good enough reason, where is the risk/reward there?

Save the restructure for a year when you actually might benefit from it, I'm pretty sure that's why it's in the contract, if you feel like you can take a run at the SB and need some space to sign a certain player, then you can create that space.

It also kills any trade possibilities, say next year some team thinks they are ready to make a run, and are willing to give up two 1st round picks or something, that becomes impossible with this restructure.

They can create a little cap space in other ways, bite the bullet this year and it leaves a much better, and more flexible future.

No idea. I'm not a coach. I'm also cool with moving on from him. However, he's a guy who's played well in the past, and played for Houston for three years while Vance Joseph was a coach on the team, so he may have some insight or influence. Just speculating.

Generally, when a player is suspended for an entire season, his cap figure comes entirely off the books for that season and his contract is rolled over.

The possible draw backs of keeping those guys is contract extensions and restructuring them in such a way that they could be traded later.

I worry about wake because he tore his Achilles. Not a pretty injury. He may never be the same. If hypothetically this is the case then we have a 33 or 34 yr old guy coming off a major injury that isn't what he was. I love the guy but geez we are asking a lot of the guy in a young mans game

Brent Grimes is on the decline. And who the hell would want Miko is their city. JMO.

The other thing is if we don't restructure SUH for the cap room we loose 18 million in cap space. We simply won't have what we need to productively move forward. It almost is not fair, or put in another way a handicap to Gace's success

Simply put - we can not have over 1/4 of our cap tied up in Tannehill and SUH - not and win consistently anyway (40.2 m)

What pisses me off the most is we may finally have a group of coaches that may make some noise. Not so sure Gace was real aware of the cap problems. If he wasn't I bet he is now.

 

I think the real dilemmas are Wake and Grimes.

Wake - I absolutely agree that coming off an injury, he may never be the same; however, pass rush is so hard to find. Plus, we have to couple this with the possibility that Vernon could be gone. I really don't think that we could even hope to do better than Wake in free agency.

Grimes - Grimes play has obviously declined, and Miko has caused tension within the locker room.... Buuuuut, if we lose Grimes, we literally have no one at corner. That being said, we would have to acquire multiple corners in the offseason.

The most disturbing fact about cutting one or both of these question marks is that we would instantly create a major need for the draft/free agency. Obviously, we need to address the guard position, linebackers, corners, and a safety. Depending on how things go with Miller, we may need a running back. Cameron could get cut, and we may need another tight end. It would be wise to add tackle help as well.

Ultimately, we have limited cap space to add free agents. Realistically, we could hope to hit on three of our draft picks. That being said, if we let these guys go, we are going to wind up having holes elsewhere. Moreover, we could wind up simply exchanging one problem for another.

I like a lot of this, however, Cam Wake has already let the Dolphins know that he is willing to restructure and with Gase and Christiensen coming in I believe we will get Cameron to restructure and he will have a huge season for us.

 

Imo, they should look to fixing the Oline, keeping Matthews and Miller so they can get a full on read on what/where Tanne is, deal with everything else via the draft and cheap FAs, the paramount thing for this organization right now is getting the best read on what they have at QB, and not trying to miracle our way into the playoffs this year.

If Shelby and Fede are the starting DEs next year, so be it, it could be worse, draft Hargreaves in the 1st and realize that sometimes you have to take a step backward before you can go forward, and I really hope Ross is starting to realize that now.

If they can get the offense going, tickets will fly of the shelves, regardless of how well the D is playing, O should be the focus in this tight offseason.

As far as the 1st pick, I'm not stuck on Hargreaves, he just seems to be, at this point anyway, the best CB that will be available to us, and that is a primary need, if you think passrusher, I'm on board with that too. :up:

 

When did Cam Wake say he would restructure - there is nothing to restructure he is in his last year of his contract. The only option they have is to extend him out and do it that way, not sure we would want to do that. He will be 34 and is approaching a decline in his career , especially coming off a torn Achilles. As much as I say it he may never play another down for us.

 

I think that in this case, a restructure would be taking a pay cut, with the ability to earn money back through incentives.

 

Which is why, if they do that to him. he may test the waters. There will be someone out there willing to pay for the guy who may or may not be his usual self. I hope we don't loose him as a result. Not his fault we paid 2 guys 1/4 of the cap. Now everyone else is supposed to do right for the team and make concessions? I'm not sure how I would feel if I was in his shoes. I would propably walk to be honest. Especially if he believes the phins dont have a prayer of a chance to win the super-bowl during his career which may have 3-4 years left.

I would bet you money Denver would take a chance on him for that pass rush - heck look what they did with Payton

I get it brother and I believe you are probably right. I love Cam he is my absolute favorite player on the team. I would hate to see him go, I just don't want another mistake is all. I would hate to see him tearing it up somewhere else for 3/4 or 5 more years.

I said it then and I will say it now. I have nothing against SUH except we made a huge mistake at this time signing him. What his salary is going to do to this team for the next 3 -5 years boarders on criminal. If we were a SUH away from the show then yes - do it. But we ain't sniffing the super-bowl any time soon.

Hope I am wrong on the last sentence but I highly doubt it.

Mr Wake we know we are supposed to pay you close to $10,000,000 this year but we only want to pay you $4,000,000 and then have you can try and earn the money back we are short changing you next year if you play well? Why would he ever agree to that anyway. He is due a new contract. Someone will pay him what he wants.

Don't disagree. I personally believe Wake will not be the same guy for a while. Getting the push he is used to puts an immense amount of pressure on his Achilles tendons. If he can ever do it to that degree again remains to be seen. I wouldn't be surprised if he can play ever again at that level less alone this coming season. So the question ends up being do we trade him or extend him? His trade value will be diminished because of his injury. Maybe he works with us - maybe its career ending. Either way we can not wait around and see. We did that recently with Brandon Albert and look where we ended up. I hate it - but if we are going to win They have to treat it as a business.

I don't see Brent Grimes being worth 9.5 million dollars this season. Geez this kind of stuff is why we have cap problems. In 2013 he got 5.4m, 2014 4.0m. Tannenbaum shows up in 2015 and Grimes is at 10m for 2015, 9.5m for 2016 and 8.5m for 2017. Starting to see a trend here?? Cut him and get someone else in here for half the money.

If we continue with this organic grocery shopping we will end up being the New York jets from a few years ago.

Complete rebuild? - we are already there brother. There is only 24 players under contract for next year which means we will turn over more then half the team

 

I would bet almost everything that Wake will come back to us as good as new, with a new much more affordable incentive based deal to help us out as well as he is not afraid to prove himself. He is the hardest worker of his strength and conditioning on our team and he will be more of a situational player now. Nothing but a positive to bet on Wake here. I think with Grimes, if he wants to stay with us then he needs to negotiate down to the 3.5 million cap hit we would face along with several nice incentives to prove himself....seems fair enough...players kill me wanting to always get new huge contracts when they play well, but if their play drops off a bit they sure Don't want to take a pay cut. By doing this it will give us more cap space, but for me, of the two, Wake is by far the more important player for us to keep...again, imho.

 

He said that he would be willing to sit down with the Dolphins and work out a deal that is fair to both sides....I probably saw the post in club level.....go back and check out the post of our club members who talk the numbers and post the links to the actual interview. I am sorry that I cannot do it from the device that I use.

 

I think we've already lost these players though, it's just a matter of admitting it now, Grimes' play has been on the decline for 2 years now, but last year was a significant drop, he's no longer worth even half what he's making, and Wake is 34 coming off achilles, there simply is no coming back to what he was, that's hoping for a miracle.

I'm a big fan of both these guys, Wake is the reason why I joined a board, I joined my first site within a month of us signing Wake, he was the straw that broke the back on me joining an online site, I'm the OWF, original Wake fan, lol.

I was one of very few people that didn't view Wake as just another Canadian player, I thought at the time, which I was much ridiculed for, that it was like getting a free 1st or 2nd round pick, I thought he was that good after doing my research, and I was right, so Wake has a special place in my fan heart, and it's impossible not to admire him, he is the poster boy for giving your all, because when he wasn't he couldn't make a squad, but when he did he was an all pro player, it's like a fairy tale.

So suffice it to say Wake is actually in my pantheon of all time favorite players, but he's not going to be worth half his money either.

I'm all for bringing these guys back, but at reduced rates, and reduced expectations, I don't think either should be starting anymore.
