This was just read on Colin Cowherd, these are the texts from Incognito to Martin...
"Hey, wassup, you half------- piece of (expletive). I saw you on twitter, you been training ten weeks. Want to (expletive) in your (expletive) mouth. I'm going to slap your (expletive) mouth. Going to slap your real mother across the face. (laughter). You're still a rookie. I'll kill you."

This still isn't the whole thing, which annoys me. It's 4 damning sentences taken out of the whole thing. They don't even make sense without the rest,
MikeHoncho and dont fumble like this. -
At WHAT POINT does the rest no longer matter?
This is a 4 alarm tire fire. This is egg on the face of a team struggling SO HARD to get back to respectability.MonstBlitz, PhinsRock, muscle979 and 10 others like this. -
I get a message like that from a co-worker. I immediately go to HR. Who cares about some kind of culture! If Philbin knew about this. Then yeah he's completely in the wrong. He should comment on the situation immediatly.

Looks like both players will be off the team.
Martin is clearly positioning himself for a lawsuit. The fact that he is releasing this information to the media indicates that he has no regard for the organization and is looking to maximize his return on this national firestorm.gunn34 and MikeHoncho like this. -

Totally immature and disrespectful. Philbin should go public immediately and tell the press that Incognito will no longer be a member of the Dolphins organization. Turn the page as fast as possible and try to restore order to the rest of the team. If its proven that Philbin knew about all this then he must go also. Ross has to make a stand and show that this nonsense wont be tolerated.
PhinsRock, phintasmic and toto like this. -
What sucks is that this O-Line will go down as one of the worst in NFL history, and this is what Incognito was up to rather than trying to make it better or being a true leader. Good riddance.
This wouldn't have happened under a Shula coached team. -
There is the entire quote.
I have a feeling this is one of those things that looks a whole lot worse written down then when it is actually said.
It reads like a WWF transcript though.Mcduffie81 and Paul 13 like this. -
I get carrying pads, paying for a dinner, or even the haircut prank bs but this is way too far in my opinion. I get that it could be happening other places but why is the real question? I can understand how someone would lose it if you hear this crap for over a year.

I know if some other man at my work told me "I want to blank in your blank" in ANY context, i might have to bring that up to someone, since taking it into my own hands would not end well for me or the other guy

I'm curious as to the timeline.
Incognito mentioned at some point that he and Pouncey took it upon themselves to toughen Martin up.
Based on the things that Incognito said about Martin doing a 10-week training program and whatnot, those text messages seem to be dated from before Martin complained to Philbin.
It looks to me like there's a possibility Philbin DID get the harrassment to stop, and that Incognito, Pouncey and Martin became friends afterward regardless. You still have Martin's text message to Incognito which says he doesn't blame any of them including Richie, it's just the NFL culture. You still have evidence that Incognito and Martin were friends and chose to hang out with one another and talk to one another frequently.
Martin may have accepted the reason Incognito was leaving those messages back in the spring. He may have accepted that Incognito was only trying to toughen Martin up. And Incognito may have stopped those things once Martin talked to Philbin about it and let it be known that things like that were over the line and really bothering him. -
After reading all this crap by Incognito, I find myself feeling a little for Martin, yeah is big and tall and he plays in the NFL, but he still a 23 years old kid
I'm sure that other stuff will come out therefore I'm not ready to take side..... I wonder if all this bs did play a role in Martin development and performanceRGF, ElNino, DPlus47 and 1 other person like this. -
Wait a minute, these quotes, are they from text messaging or voicemail?

It seems so odd to me that for so many people this kind of behavior is pseudo-acceptable simply because these men are athletes as opposed to accountants. Regardless of the what these men do on Sunday, this is still a business, and in this country said organizations need to allow for reasonable working conditions.
Being called a half-****** piece of **** is not, in any shape or form, reasonable or professional. This is disgusting behavior and I'm appalled that anyone, especially Philbin, would even WANT a guy like this on the team if that's how he's acting.toto and Germanfinfan like this. -
While I agree that it may look worse in print than how it sounds, just b/c there could be a joking context, it's pretty damning. It still isn't different from what I've heard of happening multiple times in many locker rooms. Personally I don't care for hazing. I never joined a fraternity b/c I didn't want to be made to do idiotic things in order to earn the right to do idiotic things to others. But I bristle at the characterization that Miami is this unique and horrid situation. My guess is that this may well result in forcing Ross to clean house. And then most likely a new system will be brought in and much of the talent we do have will be ill-fitting. The rebuild may again start from scratch.
As an aside, I do wonder how Martin responded. In my experience bullies tend to be cowards and people who are joking back off b/c they realize they crossed a line and upset someone. If Martin had just said something like, "take your best shot", odds are that it all ends regardless of whether it was bullying or not. -
Based on what's coming out I am actually going the opposite direction.
I'm having a tough time believing Martin left the team because of bullying.
I think it's clear that Martin sought the aid of Joe Philbin during spring OTAs because of bullying from Incognito and possibly Pouncey, who admitted they set out this off season to try and toughen him up.
What I don't think is entirely clear is whether any of that behavior persisted beyond when Philbin was notified, and whether it played a factor in Martin's departure. You have to remember that teammates said that Martin had been really distant even a few days prior to leaving, prior to the final cafeteria prank. When it comes to the pranks and whatnot, Martin was mired right in the thick of those as one of the perpetrators. There's also the text message he sent to Richie saying that he doesn't blame any of them, it's just the NFL locker room culture got to him a little bit.
If some of the things that Incognito's father posted are true, that Martin has had documented issues with depression going back a ways and has contemplated suicide on three occasions...then I think it's far more likely that mental illness is playing the biggest role in all this and that the bullying was a brief, misguided effort by Incognito and Pouncey to "toughen up" Martin during the off season.
And now because Martin's representatives and agents have every reason to want Martin to continue to be paid even though the Dolphins claim he has a non-football illness (which means, no money)...they're reaching back to texts and voicemails from 6 months ago and saying those are the reason Martin is going through what he's going through. -
I hear where you`re coming from but good natured rookie hazing happens in professinal sports all the time. But its all in good fun as long as the rookie is not disrespected in the same form that Martin was. Its usually the veterans way of accepting the younger players to the team. -
790 is currently destroying Philbin and Ireland.

I'm going to withhold any judgment until it all comes out. These little snips and slices never tell the whole story. While my group of lifelong friends are mostly asians there are Mexicans, Blacks and whites in the crew and a lot of racial slurs get thrown around from everybody to everybody else. I need the full context of that conversation before judging.

I have a headache now.
Great. -
There's 0 context to these texts/messages.
Martin and/or his people are gearing up for a lawsuit. Mom and dad are both layers? Oh yea, bet the house on that. -
-
Perhaps.
OT: All this has me wondering why Jake Long opted not to re-sign with us (assuming the money was there), given that they had recently extended Richie. Honestly, working next to a royal prick has a noticeable effect on people.
