Saw it from my back porch nearly every night when I was in Alaska. It's usually just a white glowing that streams across the sky in a large band. But every once in a while some real activity picks up and you get the colors and dancing swirls like in the video. Of course much slower. The coolest part of the video is seeing the stars rotate in the sky. That shows you the speed of the video. Its playing fast enough to noticeably see the rotation of the earth.

LOL. -15 is nothing for that climate. Thats hardly even cold. After a few months of -30 to -50, -15 feels like a day to get outside and enjoy the good weather. Seriously. Its a dry cold, nothing like what -15 would feel like in the northeast or midwest. -15 in Alaska is by no means "braving it".

It's a pretty significant accomplishment by this guy; he braved temperatures below zero to capture 22,000 images, then string them together to make the film.

    22,000!

Its a great piece of work. But he didnt put himself in any danger to get the photos. Setting up a camera and walking away is hardly braving it. I went out riding a snowmobile for over an hour in -30 without getting frostbite. Lots of people do outdoor activities in that whether. Biking, dog sledding, snowmachining, cross country skiing. You see people everywhere outside in that whether in fairbanks. -15 isnt harsh there.

Just being out in that weather is one thing; it's entirely another to take 22,000 pictures in it.

The logistics alone; just keeping the camera working in that cold!

youre exaggerating the feat because you obviously havent experienced the conditions. his camera was at no danger of not working. also, it looks to me like he used time lapse photography with a gliding camera mount. he doesnt have to stand there for hours taking pictures.
