FFIC thread, and the others influenced this one. I, like FFIC in the Stevie Ray Vaughan or Eric Clapton thread am biased. btw, we should get a march madness tournament set up of everyones top bands or something like that
Beatles. Even though I think The Beatles are majorly overrated, they were still a good band and made good music.
I used to think the same thing, then i really really started to listen to them, and loved them ever since.
It's not that I don't love them, I really do. When I say overrated, its because as far as just musical talent it's not like they blow the world away. What makes/made them great is that they were innovative, and meaningful. Which makes me respect them. And they werent bad musicians, I just mean purely talent wise there have been better. They aren't overrated as a great band, they are overrated as the best pure musicians ever. (just IMO)
That's where i disagree. The lyrics of John Lennon and Paul McCartney were simply amazing, and imo they where the best writing team in music. IMO you will never experience another duo like them again. Yes John Lennon was not great at the guitar, he became a lot better but was never a Hendrix, but the Beatles, in their 10 years, revolutionized music. Every member of that band can sing, yeah some betters than others, ie, John, Paul and George were a lot better than Ringo, and the same three were great lyrical writers. Record sales have shown that the Beatles are one of the most successful bands of all times... I believe the Beatles are one of the most talented bands ever to exist, for their lyrics, sounds and the way they innovative the music industry. i wont say they are the best band ever because, well it all depends on everyones music taste, but i don't think they are Overrated as being one of the best But we are both are entitled to our opinions.
My favorite CD from any of the solo Beatles! George was a way better guitarist than john, and thats why i think they all worked so well, each brought something to the table, Ringo his drums, John and Paul their voice and lyrics, and George his guitar, and in his later years his lyrics.
The White Album despite being argued by many as their greatest work (I would make a case for this argument) was at a time when they were most troubled with each other.. I think this album you can hear what each person brings the best. I don't know what you know about the beatles but I'm going to say it's a lot.
No one ever said they were the best musicians. You don't have to be the greatest musicians to be the greatest BAND. The one thing that made them great was they were the best songwriters. No other band has ever written songs that over 40 years later are still relevant. That's just fact.
Except one of them looks like some other guy who may or may not have cheated with your wife at the time. Beatles FTW
I have no idea what you mean here. Surely you're not taking a swipe at these innocent blokes! http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/207085/stones.jpg
It's like trying to choose your kids except the one kid looks like the guy that your wife may or may not have cheated with. It's an analogy to say that - it's not hard to choose your kids when one of them doesn't even look like you.. meaning he's obviously not your kid.. meaning it's not hard to pick which band is better because one doesn't even fit the mold of what you're looking for in music.
The Rolling Stones by far. I love the Beatles, but the Stones are the greatest rock and roll band in history.
I'm shocked by the lack of respect for the Stones. And by the same people who champion Candlebox and Alice in Chains? Jeez... Anyone who can't get into Exile on Main Street is a person I don't want to hang with. Good thing we're separated by the internets.
The Stones have some kick *** bluesy rock in the late 60's to mid 70's. Very different than the Beatles sound. I sure wouldn't say that they suck.
Beatles, hands down. The Stones have the longevity, but the Fab 4 may be the most influential band, ever.
You're a Weezer fan who's not into the Beatles?!?!?!? I'm gonna shut up now. I was nearly banned a few days ago. Posted via Mobile Device
I say you need to do your homework, whippersnapper! To put collective soul over the stones is akin to taking Brooks Bollinger over Dan Marino. It's not even a serious debate. And Soundgarden is Philip Rivers. Posted via Mobile Device
Love the Stones, love the Beatles. I want to say Beatles just because they had a bigger impact, but I'll vote Stones just because they arent getting enough respect.
I didn't say collective soul over the stones I said collective soul over candlebox. and i have heard enough stones songs to know they're not for me. i may be young but my musical taste is vast.
