Who was the best all time CFL to NFL defensive player? In general, the "best" CFL to NFL players: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3535396 I recall stories of Cookie Gilchrest playing for the Bills. Or this: http://ca.askmen.com/sports/fitness_top_ten_60/70_fitness_list.html Anyone else recall Robert Edwards time in miami? He's now a big time CFL player after his career was almost ended at the pro bowl. Mostly though, the CFL has produced successful NFL offensive players, but the poll will focus on defensive players, including one all time great. Jim Marshall surprisingly is not a member of the Hall of Fame, he has 127 sacks and played in 280 consecutive games, my error on that.
I looked long and hard to find those 4 players TdP, as for the best import, it would be Warren Moon, hands down, people do not realize how great a football player he was. There is no one in professional football who has thrown for as many yards as he has. Looking around though, Cookie Gilchrist was a surprise, my Dad was a life long Bills fan and he used to tell stories about him. As for Defense, not so much, Clark was the #4 overall, Cousineau was the #1 overall, but other then Marshal, no real impact types.
I know Rashad Jeanty of the Bengals went from the CFL to the NFL - I thought Dhani Jones was drafted by the Eagles.
I didn't see JM and chose Dhani Jones. I don't think DJ was a CFL player but I could be wrong. If Wake was as good at his job as DJ is/was at his we would be set honestly. He's been a very underrated linebacker in his career IMO.
I initially said Warren Moon.... but I switched to Joe strictly because of his winning success in the NFL. As a player success, I aggree about Warren. Great job at finding those past gems, Padre!!
Not sure about CB's, but I know Rashad Jeanty was a CFL player starting out. Saban looked at him quite a bit when he got here in 2005.
even though he isnt included in the list, I agree with Padre. Moon threw the pretty-est ball..........EVER. I am sure he did but, I dont ever remember seeing him throw a ball that wasnt a perfect spiral.
Nice. I can recall a couple of Wr who semi made it in the NFL, Gizmo Williams and Terry Grier, but just a few from the defensive side of the equation.
Funny thing is, I can recall when Warren Moon signed with the Oilers, Jimmy the Greek was talking about him and saying no one in the US has heard of him but there was a bidding war between the Oilers and Seahawks for Warren Moon. Alas though, most of Moon's records were surpassed by Favre and the CFL's Damon Allen. That sort of reminds me a bit of the 18 teams that looked at Wake, with 4 or 5 being serious about trying to sign him.
I wonder who's actually received the most attention from NFL teams? Wake might be the highest on that last. Posted via Mobile Device
I actually voted for Marshall, but I just felt like bustin your chops and adding in Joe. LOL. Definitely wasn't insulting your choices.
I missed one, and he was a successful one in the NFL: [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendon_Ayanbadejo[/ame]
Interestingly, two Hall of Fame head coaches got their start in the CFL. Bud Grant and Marv Levy. One of the problems with the CFL is generally speaking, the defensive players are smaller, and they start playing in the CFL in their mid twenties, by the time really establish themselves they are sniffing 30. We got somewhat lucky with Cam Wake and "maybe" T George. But as for pro bowls, Adenyabo (sp) is the most succcesful non Offense CFL import.
