It's a thrill to watch a guy who can make things happen after the catch. The dude is a hassle to get to the ground. Clay is just one of many players who have stepped their game up this year.

Still recall Clay cutting grass in Arkansas during the NFL lockout

I miss Madden. Clay woulda been on the bus by now. Ive been waiting for a working man to show up and root for on this team. Was 68 for a while but I think Clay done won that.

The Claymaker:
A new McDonald's sandwich with a Dolphin patty between a Steeler bun. The patty slips out when you go to bite the sandwich. Da da da da da. I'm lovin' it!

That sh&$ went national quickly.
I also like to call him the monster..cause that's what Ike Taylor said three times in a row in one interview after watching his tape..." He's a monster"...." Yeah he's a monster"..... "That guys a monster" -
I prefer Big Play Clay. Claymaker is Clay Matthews. We are already defending The Kraken from Greg Hardy. Maybe we should start calling Wake Cthulu.

I'd love to know which receivers have been targeted the most to the least so far this year.
I suspect BLine and Clay have the highest target to production ratio b/c Tannehill is most comfortable with them, Wallace more then likely has been targeted either first or second most but the comfort is not there and the results would not be there either -
I like that Claymaker also sounds like the term Haymaker. So the Claymaker delivered the Claymaker on thst TD.
-
The biggest thing that has struck me about the success Clay has had recently is that he's making plays running so many different routes.

Start calling him Clayface from Batman!

Hartline has been targeted 112 times. 67 catches. 855 yards. 34 yard longest play. 4 TDs.
Wallace has been targeted 110 times. 58 catches. 762 yards. 57 yard longest play. 3 TDs.
Clay has been targeted 88 times. 60 catches. 678 yards. 67 yards longest play. 6 TDs.
Matthews has been targeted 46 times. 31 catches. 317 yards. 29 yards longest play. 2 TDs.
Gibson was targeted 44 times. 30 catches. 326 yards. 46 yards longest play. 3 TDs.SICK, Rhody Phins Fan, xphinfanx and 3 others like this. -

If you were getting a jersey for your kid this Christmas, there's Tannehill, there's Wake...
What about the Claymaker???!!!
Who better this year? A young guy that should play a while and who seems to be growing by leaps and bounds. He's had two of the best broken tackles, YAC, runs for touchdowns we've had this season. -
Clay has been an absolute pleasure to watch perform this season. That 2nd touchdown he scored on Sunday was a thing of beauty, simply out-willed the opponent.

Clay has been the most positive unexpected part of this season for me. I saw flashes of decent play, but didn't see anywhere close to the top 5 at his position performance that he's provided this year. That turned out to be a great draft pick.

I also like "Big Play Clay". When i hear The Claymaker, i cannot help but hear Arnold Schwarzenegger saying it - "DA CLAYMAKAH"
One thing is for sure, the man deserves a kick *** nickname. -
60% completion % to Hartline.
53% Wallace
68% Clay
67% Matthews
68% Gibson -
Yeah, I like Big Play Clay more too, and screamed it 3 different times Sunday.
I just used The Claymaker because that's what the writer used in the story.ElNino likes this. -
Seriously though, I'd bet you anything Clay drills that 53 yard field goal before the half.
He would have tackled Antonio Brown on that final play as well.SICK, MikeHoncho, ElNino and 1 other person like this. -
He's getting some love on Madden roster updates too, got him up to an 81. If he has three strong games I'm hoping he gets to the mid 80s, and is primed for high 80s at the start of next season. I know its just Madden, but I've been playing it for 25 years, its a big part of my football season :)
-
He's a unique player..usually these smaller guys like Hernandez are quicker, but this dude will truck you now after the catch.
This is how an offense evolves and gets better..he is a playmaker that demands respect by a defense, thus allowing other players more space..ElNino likes this. -

In order of percentages we have a tie for first with clay and Gibson. Exact tie. .68181818
Clay 68%
Gibson 68%
Matthews 67%
Hartline 59%
Wallace 52%
-
Those numbers will tighten up as teams start focusing on him. Right now they are more focused on Wallace's speed and Hartline being Tanny's blanket. Eventually though they will start shading that safety on Clay instead of Wallace at times. Which then means single coverage on Wallace and booya.

I posted this in another thread but I've been wondering what kind of contract Clay is under right now and how much money he might demand if he keeps playing like he's been playing. I wonder if that will make for a challenge with the salary cap whenever that happens.
I think clay deserves it if he keeps playing like this. I also think we didn't plan on paying him good money since he was our plan b and we paid for Dustin Keller. -
You're rounding them all down. Some need to go up a point as I posted separately. -
It's great to have a player on the team who is giving us "holy ****" plays. 3 jump to mind right off the top of my head. The catch for the huge gain in the Indy game, the TD against Sand Diego where he just "bullied" defenders, and; of course, the TD last Sunday.
I was at the San Diego game and I remember looking away from the field thinking he was tackled and being super ****ing confused when the place erupted.SICK likes this. -

Well, his one issue last yr and the first half of this year was being inconsistent catching the football, he'd make the big play, and drop the key pass late in the game.
Hmm, I'd almost bet, no dolphin has scored more Td's for us the last two seasons, he's at 9, in the last 3 yrs he is at 12, with Reggie Bush gone, he is our leading scorer over that span..or so I'd think. -
Love the look of defeat on Polamalu and other dude's faces in the background, as well as the Steelers field, logo, and name in the background as Clay scores...
This was one for the ages.

Also, I still get cracked up at this idea that Dustin Keller was this major upgrade over what we had and that the team could really use him. In 75 career games, Dustin Keller had a 0.99 WPA, 46.6 EPA, 49.3% success rate, 20 TDs in 460 targets, 6.9 yards per target, and a 58% catch rate.
Charles Clay in just this season has posted a 1.10 WPA, 26.6 EPA, 54.8% success rate, 6 TDs in 87 targets, 7.8 yards per target, and a 69% catch rate. What he has done in just this season has essentially blown Dustin Keller's entire career away.
In an ideal situation, I'd love to add someone like Jace Amaro to go along with Charles Clay at tight end. I'd like to see us use Clay some more in short yardage situations and in the passing game as a back. -
I love Clay. I also think Gibson getting hurt helped him a little.
I'm a huge Gibson fan. Get him back with Clay next year...looks good. -
Numbers don't lie
Beasts:
Clay 68%
Gibson 68%
Matthews 67%
Not so much:
Hartline 59%
Wallace 52%
