Awful display out there today. To not take a time out when they had the ball on the goal line before the half? That's the difference of 1 shot at the end zone instead of 2. I could have managed the clock better than that. And to let the Bills take a shot on 3rd down instead of just suffering a field goal attempt? I've seen enough. Nice try Dan.

 

I do hope he still has a job on the Dolphins next year .. Just not as head coach.

 

Sadly, he won't. He's already done enough to prove he deserves a promotion. Another team will let him have an expanded role. And it wouldn't surprise me if with more experience and a better situation he proves worthy of a head coaching job someday.

 

It's only a matter of time. He's done.

No, that was the right call. A 3rd and long is a low percentage conversion. And making the call to accept the penalty potentially eliminates points off the board. 1+1=2. Right call, bad luck. The goal line stuff was awful. I couldn't believe that ****.

I'm not sure why anyone took Campbell seriously as a HC candidate to begin with. He lacks any gameday experience, gameplanning ability, and he can't scheme. What's so attractive about him, again? The fact that he's a former player turned HC, who talks like a former player? Because he preaches toughness and physicality? Didn't Sparano do all that **** too? Everyone was happy to be rid of him...

 

The right call for your average NFL team? Yes. For these Miami Dolphins who have been historically TERRIBLE on 3rd and long? Nope.

That TD on 3rd and long ended the game.

 

Stephen Ross will almost certainly try and get a new head coach to keep Dan Campbell on in some capacity that makes sense for absolutely none of the parties involved. It's just what he does, and I think you genuinely have to worry about him chasing away a good candidate doing such a thing.

You pretty much either have to make him the head coach, or fire him with everyone else- even if you think he's a good guy who got put into a rough position, and has potential. You cannot demote a former head coach, even if he's an interim guy. You watched Todd Bowles walk out under the same circumstances because it's just not something that works for the team or the candidate moving forward.

I think the best thing is if we move on, and Dan Campbell gets an Assistant HC job with a quality head coach somewhere else.

I hear you but he didn't do a good job today if you consider these three moments:

1. Not calling TO after Miller catch in red zone at the end of the first half
2. Not challenging the sack fumble as a forward pass (iffy, but you have to challenge that) [edit: never mind, turnovers are automatically reviewed]
3. Accepting the penalty just before the 40 yard TD instead of forcing 4th and 8 (they were converting 3rd downs time and time again, I'd rather eat the 3 points)

 

The lack of a timeout right before half was inexcusable. You shouldn't need hc experience to know that. No excuse for that. Just a complete lack of common sense from your hc, qb and assistant coaches. How Campbell or Thill doesn't have the wherewithal to call a timeout there is crazy. The casual fan knew to take a timeout there. What the heck are you saving it for? And then you waste 2 timeouts I'm the 2nd half. I like Campbell but it's painfully obvious he's a knucklehead

Then you're pretty much throwing out everything besides his ability to connect with and inspire his team.

The guy doesn't have the experience to be a competent X's and O's guy, and you don't have anything other than faith to assume he's going to be able to hire the bright, talented coordinators he would need to make up for it. Nor does he really have good in-game management skills, Darren Rizzi is handling that and not doing a particularly good job.

It is a huge stretch to expect Dan Campbell to be the guy. He has undeniable talent, but he needs time and experience that he isn't going to get if he gets a head coaching job right now.

 

I would like to see him remain, but interim head coaches normally don't stick around after a new head coach is hired. My best guess is he will end up as a position coach with the Bills next year, since Ryan already tried to hire him once before.

 

All turnovers are automatically reviewed. if he threw the challenge flag it would be a 15 yard penalty and loss of a challenge.

 

Sean Payton is under contract to the Saints next season. So unless you are willing to give up next years first round draft pick and maybe even another draft pick, Payton isn't coming to Miami.

Right now the Dolphins need players with those picks far more than they need to be chasing after a head coach who hasn't had much success since returning from his one year suspension a few years ago.

I just cant let go at this point, to much potential...let him have the rest of the season to see how fast he learns at in game management, the x's and o's stuff we dont know yet ya know.

 

We'll it ain't like we're firing him midseason...he's got 7 more games. He's got to keep the team fighting.

 

Ultimately, it didn't matter, but he really should have taken the FG at the end of the first half. We scored to start the 3rd and would have been within two points, with momentum.

Oh well.

If he starts getting blown out to teams that don't have more talent than us, then we will know that the shine has worn off.

The playbook has clearly been opened up, as an aside. The amount of trick plays that Lazor is throwing out there, is stunning.

And I like Ajayi, a lot. We are now, essentialy, out of the playoffs, so you might as well feed the kid and see if we can live without Miller for next season, as he is a free agent. Play Devante when he is healthy, and the rookie linemen. Figure out what you have, and don't have prior to a salary cap year that could potentially damage us for a long time.

Some thought that he and the Saints will part ways. Their ownership situation is a mess, they are in cap hell, Brees is over the hill ... not much of a future for them there. The overblown Bountygate and the GM bungling defense led to their downfall. If it happens, he should be a top target. But if not and he stays, I agree a draft pick is not the right thing.

 

If it was Philbin who decided to pass it from the 1 yard line? .....forget about it!! However, I like Dan, so..we'll see.

 

I'm not ready to give up on him. We've got a half a season to see what he can do. Let's also keep in mind that this guy inherited a mess.

I'd keep Campbell on , I'd boot Lazor yesterday. I dont really see any quality hc candidates .. I don't like any of the names that have been floated.

As for he didn't have good clock management... Dude is in his 3rd game of a HC of a team already in bad shape.

How can anyone blame Campbell that we suck? Its the offensive scheme and lack of talent that's causing us to suck.

No, that wasn't the right call. You don't give a team another opportunity to convert a first down unless you have a great defense. We don't have a great defense. We are traditionally bad on third and long. The field goal wasn't a chip shot You let them kick the field goal and if they make it, it's still a one possesion game. It isn't rocket science
