The reason those stats haven't translated to wins: the QB is a rookie, and the 3,000 yards is hardly a sufficient benchmark for adequate quarterback play. Tannehill's going to have to get his overall game improved for these kinds of stats to translate to greater wins on a consistent basis.
I think that is a percentage of the problem. You need to factor in poor WR separation, inadequate TE play and the overall state of our play-makers on offense. You can't throw it all on Tannehill.
I think those stats prove we aren't a talentless team. I think they also prove that we aren't far from being contenders.
Well I'd put a large percentage on our inability to create many turnovers this year also. (Yesterday being a perfect example) Turnovers and QB play, IMO, are the biggest contributors to winning football games.
That's the easy way out though, come on now. Its amazing to watch other teams play this game, and how expolosive just one top WR can make an offense. A WR that can actually make a play for the QB. We desparately need one of those, i dont care what anybody says. To sit here and say the QB play needs to be better, sure, Tanny made his fair share of mistakes, but the growth from week 1, to now is clearly evident. he's improved by leaps and bounds. You can't expect any QB to make this offense look like a top offense, especially not a rookie. Get some playmakers, and improve the back end of the D a bit more, and we should easily be a playoff team.
A very predictable post from you. Defense inability to turn the ball over on an average basis, let alone a consistent basis. Reggie Bush being capable of home run plays, but also being more than capable of killing your drive with indecisive running. WRs inability to make plays when balls are not dropped on a perfect tee, or when they need to break a few tackles. A sometimes inconsistent offensive line play. These are but a few factors too. But of course, 90% of the blame lays on the rookie right? Very predictable post indeed.
He's indecisive because there is no hole. If there is a hole Bush runs through it. Does it need to be a bigger hole than other RBs? Probably ... but I saw Miller dance as well ... when there is no hole! Our team needs more explosive players. It was apparent the last time we played Buffalo, and watching CJ Spiller run vs. Reggie Bush (and I'm a bush fan). Let's home Miller is our ... Spiller. Ewww.
Yardage doesn't have the strongest correlation with winning because you can gain a lot of yards without scoring TDs and situations can dictate that defenses allow you to gain more yardage while also letting time run off the clock. But there obviously is a causal relationship. There has to be. But like in basketball with points, it's more about how efficient you are at gaining the points rather than the total you accumulate. In relation to this, I was pretty impressed with Tannehill yesterday. It looked like his passes had a little extra zip on them, and the vast majority of them were pretty accurate. He also seems to be moving better within and out of the pocket. It's hard to say he's making the right throws when I don't see the coach's tape. But it doesn't seem like he is making bad decisions. This team was fairly disappointing on several fronts. But I predict that I'll be pretty excited going into next season and seeing how much better Tanny can get.
Eh, just goes to show what matters is Td's and Turnovers imo Another way to look at it is our leading rusher and Wr and Te are all FA's.
Bline will be retained I'm sure. I think one of Ireland's issues is he out thinks the room, we are we even discussing letting Bush walk when he is our only real playmaker on offense? To me, if we let Jake walk that 12 millie freed up can easily resign Bush/Hartline w/money left over In some ways, resigning Nate Garner is more key then signing Jake Long.
And rightly so. Bess is a good player, but in this draft alone there are a few players who can give you equal or better results in the slot. Hartline is harder to replace.
It speaks to how healthy we've been this year. All the guys listed... Bush, Tannehill, Hartline, Dansby, Burnett, Wake... (i believe that covers it) have maybe missed three games total between the six of them. Some element of luck there, but also I'd credit the staff in keeping these guys healthy and the players in having the proper work ethic. That's a nice change of culture from years passed.

Amen, Padre...The deals made by Ireland this offseason will be monitored closely, and quite frankly, should be very entertaining. I like what he did this past draft. How tempting is it to bundle the top three rds for two sure fire first rounders...Passrusher and playmaker. Ireland deserves to run this next draft. He's finally put the team in position to make some serious deals next year. I'm happy for him, not a fan of all his moves, but respect his patience and structuring of contracts. I really like our last draft and am interested to see how he drafts top end skill position players and pass rushers instead of always pouring cemented linemen for a foundation.
