25 straight scoreless innings and 11 straight quality starts for Javy! Shut out the Braves! Bring this man back!

I don't see why he would come back :(

If there is a way to go out, it's like this.

We can lure him back. It's hard to say no to 7+ million dollars.

I think the important thing is to show we are going to compete. That, with the money and the new stadium may be enough to lure him back.

7 million is hard to say no to, even after making 90 million.

As long as it isn't a sure thing, I'm going to have hope. It does look like a long shot, though.

Yes, Javy's return is indeed a long shot. Seriously, we're going to get misty-eyed for the most bipolar pitcher on our staff? Guy was absolutely terrible for half the year, and now that he's good when the games don't mean anything, we want to extend him? When he has one foot out the door and one hand on the pension check? Come on. We can and should aim higher than this.

But, like our (alleged) new logo, we will aim for the bottom and experience a near miss.

Um, have you ever heard of a man named Ricky Nolasco? He's the most inconsistent pitcher on our staff, not Vasquez.

Vasquez isn't an inconsistent pitcher, anyway. You can't just look at the season and say, " Oh, look, he's bipolar! He was horrible and now he's great when the games don't mean anything!" That's too simple. Vasquez's resurgence can be traced to his fastball. Last season, it was at 88.7 MPH. This season? 90.4. And that's when it was around 87 at the beginning of the season. As the season progressed, his stuff got better. His control got better. Since June, in 131 IP, he has an ERA of 2.86, a WHIP of 1.06, a K/9 of 8.39, a BB/9 of 1.6, and a K/BB of 5.85(!!)

How do you plan on aiming higher than this? Vasquez is a damn good pitcher. Go look at the free agent list, and name me 5 better options. Sabathia? Yea. Wilson? Yea. Buerhle? No. Roy Oswalt? No. Who else? I don't see anyone.

We would be lucky to have Vasquez back.

Game to game, yes. In terms of the entire season? Nope, Javy's depths and heights have been more pronounced.

Actually, I can, because if you're going to sign a guy on a series of one-year contracts (as Javy stated at the beginning of the season that he would prefer and pursue if he chose to keep playing) then you need to evaluate him on that annual basis to judge a. if he's worth that next contract, and b. what price to set when making an offer. Javy was absolutely horrendous to start the year, and while he's pitching very well now, there is absolutely zero guarantee that he would continue this performance into a theoretical next season, or that he wouldn't trail off in some disastrous way as the theoretical next season wore on.

If he wants to retire, let him. It's not the loss you're making it out to be, and that frees up $7 million for, say, C.J. Wilson.

I would hate to be a stat keeper for the team right now. Who do you attribute the saves to?

He's been consistent in the NL. Yea, he's had ups and downs in the AL, especially with the Yankees, but in the NL he's consistently good.

So name them. If you can name 5 pitchers from this Free Agency class that are better than Javy, do it.

If Javy is in the way of Wilson, I wouldn't even hesitate to let Javy retire. But, that's not what I'm talking about and that's not what this is about. If we added Wilson, then can turn around and bring back Vasquez, you wouldn't do it. Apparently, to you, he's this inconsistent pitcher who's putting up numbers that don't matter because the season is lost. You don't think he's good. I'm trying to tell you that if we can bring in both, I would make it my objective to do it. I think he is a good pitcher. He's proved he clearly is.

I'm pretty sure the price of trading for Joey Votto is Mike Stanton.

And enough of this Bobby Valentine stuff. Quit it, Loria.

Exactly what I was thinking. Votto isn't happening. I'm not even sure where the rumor that the Reds want to trade him came from. Dude is a top 5 position player.

I also doubt the payroll reaches 100 million. But I think we can have enough of a payroll where we can land both Wilson and Ramirez. If it does hit 100 million though, I would go all out.

Marlins and White Sox in trade talks for Ozzie Guillen. Ben Volin jokingly(?) wonders if LoMo is a part of those talks.

If we do acquire Ozzie somehow, here's hoping David Samson realizes that, yes, Ozzie is going to challenge him and the front office many times in private and in public over moves.

It'll be a prospect and $$. No 40 man roster player is in danger of being traded for Ozzie. But it's pretty much a done deal. That makes me happy in my pants.

More from the White Sox Twitter account:

Translation: He was traded without being traded. This way he can work out a long-term deal with the Marlins and the White Sox get something for it.

    "Head coach"?

I wouldn't say I'm excited, but Guillen is probably the best available manager to have for this club going into 2012 and a new ballpark. He's won a World Series, he's competent, he can be here long-term, he'd appeal to the Hispanic demographic in Miami, and he can hopefully tell David Samson to screw off when Samson needs to be told to screw off (read: four or five times a day).

    Wow, you guys are fast.

@Finsincebirth, I think we're excited because Ozzie is a character. Managers in baseball don't impact the game that much, really. So it's not like we upgraded or downgraded. But as a character, you don't get much better than Ozzie Guillen. Especially in South Florida. I can't wait until next season!

Ozzie brings excitment, after 162 games of boring losing, bull****......"excitement" is worth its weight in gold 10-fold.
