    Wow. It actually went through.

We’re waving the white flag for 2011, guys. It’s just one big 162-game preseason for the 2012 campaign.

    And his name...is DAN...UGGLA!

Alright, enough trolling. In all seriousness though, didn't Uggla turn down a nice deal? The Marlins probably could've gotten more, but I think you're gonna like Infante and Dunn.

Infante was/is the best utility man in baseball, and Dunn didn't give up an earned run the entire regular season. He's a great LOOGY and you guys have needed one of those for a while now.

Yuck, that was an awful trade. But hey at least Infante was an All Star right? I'm surprised at how little Florida got for Uggla. You'd think he would have brought back more, even for a 1 year rental.

Maybe they're afraid of getting top prospects back and it blowing up in their face like the Cabrera trade. Lol, really that's the best they could get. Who's gonna play center? Please not another center by committee. Is the lineup looking like this now:
    C-John Buck
    1b-Gaby Sanchez
    2b-Chris Coughlin
    SS-Hanley Ramirez
    3b-Omar Infante
    LF-Logan Morrison
    CF-Emilio Bonifacio
    RF-Mike Stanton

If we sign John Buck and call it an offseason, I'll agree. However, since it's November, chill the heck out.

Like the Marlins are going to make a blockbuster deal in the team’s favor.

Come on, Mainge. You know better than that. The last time the Marlins made a trade that worked out in the club’s advantage was Beckett and Lowell for Hanley. Even then, the Red Sox parlayed that into a World Series victory.

Any shot at that they go for a Center Fielder in either free agency, trade, or rule 5?

When was the last time the Marlins made multiple moves like this in the offseason? Never. This is a new off season. One with money. This was a bad trade, but I'm sure Beinfest has something up his sleeve.

The more and more I think about this trade, the more I like it. We still have around 7 million dollars to play with, got better defensively and have a potentially good left hander in our bullpen.

The only problem is besides from Cliff Lee, Carl Crawford, Jayson Werth, Victor Martinez and Adrian Beltre, the free agent market is really weak. Maybe the Marlins will try to sign a SP on a 1 year deal or something (like a Pavano or Garland type).

#BlueJays had most early interest in Uggla. Jays' offer: RHP J. Roenicke, RHP D. Farquhar and either SS R. Goins or OF D. Mastroianni. #MLB

    Braves offer>Blue Jays offer.

We still need a CF, one more lefty in the pen, starting pitching, and another bench player.

Pavano may be a bit pricey considering he's coming off a very solid season.

Way to go, Frank Wren! This is a great case of buying low and selling high. When Atlanta traded for Omar Infante a few years ago, they go him and Will Ohman for minor league pitcher Jose Ascanio. To turn around and flip him and Mike Dunn for Dan Uggla is a great move. Yeah, I'm concerned about Uggla's defense, but the Braves need his bat in the middle of the line up. The word out of Atlanta is that Prado will now play third base if Chipper isn't ready to go and may move to left field if Chipper is ready to go.

As for the Marlins, it really is a shame you guys have such a lousy owner. I feel the Marlins organization has the best scouting staff in all of baseball. They always seem to be able to reload after dealing guys they have already developed. I'm sure they have some guys down on the farm that will end up being traded to teams that want to win down the road. Matt Dominguez is 20 years old and can play defense at third base at the major league level right now. He's got a ways to go with his bat. Scott Cousins could figure into the outfield mix. Obviously, Kyle Skipworth looks like the catcher of the future, though he needs to cut down on his strike outs.

When was the last time the Marlins offered a non-superstar a real contract extension? Or offered a free agent a multi-year contract worth over 10m? it's real easy to automatically blame the ownership. They deserve all the criticism in the world over the last few years. But the reality is, they offered him 48 million! He turned it down. It's a lot more beneficial to get something for him now than let him walk and get nothing for him going into the new stadium.

I know you love to blame the front office but it's misplaced blame this time.

He didn’t turn down $48 million. He turned down $48 million over 4 years. He wanted $48 million over five years. FIVE. YEARS. That lowers his per-year salary, and it’s still a tradable contract.

Instead he was moved for a half-eaten sandwich and a Diet Coke. When in doubt, trade for an expiring contract, right? Screw that.

I was honestly considering buying season tickets for the new ballpark. That’s out the window now. This team needs to win a playoff series in 2011 just to make up the ground they’ve lost in my mind.

Everything I’ve seen said that both the Marlins and Uggla agreed on $48 million and the only dispute was the length of the contract.

But, fine. The Marlins moved Uggla and they got an expiring contract in return. They need to do something with that money. Buying low on guys like Stanton would be nice, but I doubt that’s going to happen.

He wanted an extra year but to suggest he only wanted 48 is poor inference on your part.
