I think this road swing will decide if we are contenders. We must win ALL of the series from now on, IMO.

Absolutely. We very well could have, and probably should have swept the Cubs.

The pitching is there, now the offense needs to kick it up a noth or three.

Raynor more than Maybin, IMO. Maybin will help our base running, but I think he needs a little more time to bake.

And to think we balked at the idea of losing him. Note to self: don't doubt the Iron Fist of Beinfest. He's the only GM in South Florida I feel comfortable with vesting absolute trust in.

    At least we're winning 6-0.

    I'd say it's the opposite.

Although he's still rediculously young, Maybin is much more talented than Raynor and would probably be able to contribute significantly much sooner. Especially on defense.

Maybin is hitting .345 after the ASB with a .926 OPS compared to John's .327 and .877 despite being over three years younger.

Its pretty obvious Cameron Maybin is a special, special player.

He's okay but not the long-term solution at that position. The draft this year supposedly filled that with the taking of Kyle Skipworth. But he is a HSer and those generally take a lot of time to develop, like about 5-6 years before they can be MLB ready. I don't know that I would say that Baker will be your everyday guy next year, and I definately don't think Treanor or LoDuca are that guy. I can see them trying to trade for one of those excellent Texas farm guys either Laird or Saltilamoccia (not sure on the spelling)

A lot of that will depend on how the rest of the season goes for him but I imagine as long as he doesn't completely crap the bed, then he has the starting job going into 2009.

It's hard to tell with him because up to this point, he's been a career minor leaguer and I think ultimately, his future in the bigs is as a backup catcher.

But for now he's doing a very good job and it's probably his to lose.

We've been trying to get one of those Texas backstops forever, but their asking price is rediculously high.

A buddy of mine is in close with several Marlins brass including Mike Hill, and Mark Wiley and supposedly they wanted Volstad for Laird.

These guys have four catchers that project to be solid big league catchers including Max Ramirez and U.S. Olympian Taylor Teagarden. You would think they would wise up and try to get some pitching pieces, of fair value of course.

Saw this some where else but just to throw this out there.

    .211/.286/.330 at home
    .290/.365/.506 on the road

    Hermida's home/road splits.

    What the hell?

Are you sure those aren't last year's numbers? We were demons on the road and couldn't win a thing at home last year.

No wonder Hermida was the guy being floated in the Manny trade.

They are the Rangers :tongue2: When has that franchise (even when they were the Washington Senators) ever done the smart thing ?

Oh course they will piss away this opportunity just like they did the years that they had A-Rod.

Gregg was another "project" closer. Beinfest has gotten lucky with his closers (Jones & another one I can't remember the name) and thought he had found another one. This one didn't turn out and will be gone within 30 days of the end of the season.

Yeah, it'll be very difficult to come back now. The Mutts and Philthies need to start losing badly at this point.

The only plus side is that we still face each of them in a couple of series. Phi = 2-3 game series (home and away) NYM = 2-3 game series (home and away)

I don't know, we always play the Phillies hard, and the Mets are hot and cold. There IS hope; at the very least, we're in position to sabotage someone's Wild Card hopes. We wouldn't be good divisional rivals if we can't at least destroy someone else's season.

Cameron Maybin has been held out of the line up the last several nights and I cant find any reports of injury.

I think hes getting ready for the call, ladies and gentlemen.

    Looking forward to watching him.

Every time I hear Andrew Miller described as the centerpiece of the Miguel Cabrera trade, a little part of me says "Wait and see."

Maybin is probably the single most gifted player to come through our organization ever. Including Hanley and Miguel.

We'll see about that. He's certainly up there. Also, Hanley's talent level is a moving target: he's still getting better. (That's kind of scary, honestly.)

Just talking physical gifts only. Cameron is a way better player at this point than Hanley was at 21. Maybin is faster, projects for better power, much better defensively, etc.

Just talking physical tools, Maybin > Hanley.

Good god I hope we keep them both forever.
