    And talking Hanley, my goodness.

I cant wait to see this kid in 5 years when he really truly figures everything out.

At this point, I'll be happy if Maybin's speed gives us a few extra RBIs. We can use them.

I stand behind my assertion posted elsewhere that Miller is a 5-run inning waiting to happen. I just don't trust the guy. :pity:

What do you see that I can't see ? I know you are more expert Mainge, but darn it, I have been watching baseball closely for years and this guy just doesn't make me all giddy inside when I see him pitch. Its more like pins and needles, and waiting for that 4 or 5 spot in an inning to happen.

But by then don't figure on him being a Marlins  I think even with the contract he has in place, unless that stadium is built, he will be elsewhere.

I don't know what in the hell has happened to Gregg. He was money last season.

This is how relievers work. Most of them fluctuate year to year. There are very few exceptions (Mariano Rivera, etc.) Which is why I hate giving relievers long term deals.

This guy cannot see the field again soon. How do you think Olsen feels this morning ? He has been cheated of at least 15 wins so far in his career while as a Marlins.

Don't you think HS pitchers will look at that stat and say, "why should I sign with them just to look bad". This goes to the reputation of the franchise, and it will effect the signings in the future, I believe. FA and others will start shying away from us, believing they never will have a shot to win, because our front office will not do anything to help the team.

    Loria's cheap azz strikes again.

I see we have a successor meme to "All your base are belong to us."

Gregg's fall is inexplicable. He was great last year. Fredi's insistence on putting him out there tells me we have no faith in any of our other closers.

    Free agency priority.

I'm pretty sure its common belief among pitchers that W/L record is pretty pointless. As its a stat relies on more factors that you cant control.

If a HS pitcher refuses to sign with us because he's afraid of looking bad then good riddance. Enjoy the Independent leagues. Doesnt hurt us much, if at all.

FA will always consider us if the money is fair. Why do you think Luis Gonzalez signed with us? It certainly wasnt for playing time. He knew he was the 4th outfielder coming in. I t wasnt to win. We were horrible last year and just traded away our two best players.

He signed because the money was fair.

Luis Gonzalez also wanted to play one more year, and also play near his mother (who lives in Tampa).

You may be right, but it just irks me to no end that the FO did nothing except Arthur Rhodes to upgrade the team when it was at a critical time.

Manny Ramirez is nothing? Paul LoDuca, even a washed up Paul LoDuca, is nothing? Come on. Disagree with the moves if you will, but don't deny the effort was made.

but they didnt....i appreciate they were "trying" to rent manny.....but damnit I want some concrete good players to be here awhile....jmo

Stop spinning "Bud Selig rejects trade" into "Marlins did nothing."

Exactly what moves did you want to see happen?

Hence the biggest problem they have now. They want to run the organization like it is a AAAA franchise. That is one that plays MLB games, but is really a training ground so that once the players are good, then the BoSox's and Yankee's of MLB can come and cherry pick the best players and leave the fans of So Fla the scraps.

Not the best way to gain the trust of local fans. :pity:

A catcher from Texas, an experienced reliver + Arthur Rhodes, and Jacobs GONE, with Cantu moved to 1st and Dallas McPherson brought up to play 3rd.

We tried for one of the Rangers' catchers. They wanted some ridiculous compensation. I don't blame the Marlins on that one.

    Which reliever was available?

Can't argue with you about the other three, though. Especially Cantu and McPherson.

There are 3-4 MAYBE 5 teams in the entire MLB that can afford Manny's rediculous asking price.

I really don't think we will. Between Miggy and Hanley, I take Hanley every single time. Nearly as good swinging the bat, much better at advancing through the bases, and getting better on defense.

All I'm going to say is Texas wanted Volstad + a C level prospect for Laird, the worst of the four. Are you willing to give up Chris Volstad for John Baker production?

The only relievers traded were Arthur Rhodes, and Kyle Farnesworth.

We made a legitimate offer for Manny. Is it the FO's fault Selig rejected it?

They should have made the Rangers see they were being ridiculous, and kept negotiating. As for the reliever, someone was available, trust me on that, doesn't mean we hear about all of them, but those on the inside I am sure knew of a couple that were available.

I do remember we paid Adrian Gonzalez (starting 1st B for San Diego) to the Rangers in 2003 for Urgeth Urbina, which was a ridiculous price, but we got a WS ring for it. I pay and roll the dice to get the things this team needed for a push.

I'm afraid you're right SFF. This is a tragic way to run a franchise. Loria needs to go so we'll spend normal amounts on players, instead of always being cheap.

Boy does Ross look like an idiot!

A: The pitch ran in on him
B: He acted liked an idiot
    C: He gets picked off.

Yes, I'm a Met fan, but that pitch was not meant to hit him.
