uggla is a monster at 6......he had a 2 rbi double, and a rbi double.....and a solo shot 434 ft off maddux.....kid is thriving right now... Jacobs was 3-4 and hanley had 2 or 3 hits.....even cody ross had a rbi at the leadoff spot....just a great all around day.....16 hits total and 10 runs, i loved it......maddux has lost 4 straight against the fish....and he didnt get 350 against us PHEW!!!
Glad to hear that. I missed today's game too, so it's nice to hear we're clobbering some teams again. Hope the new lineup sticks and gets us on a hunt for the playoffs.
Marlins win 3-0. Scott Olsen pitches a 2-hitter through 8 2/3 innings. How about this guy? Last year I wanted to get rid of him, but wow, what a difference an offseason makes. Also, bumping this thread above the Braves thread.
Maybe the cops effectively Tasered the D-Bag right out of Olsen. Excuse me I have to go bump the Braves thread back up.
Sounds like it. Olsen is lights out this year. It's way too early to get excited over this, but if he can pitch at this level through the opening of the stadium, it's going to be very difficult to not include his name in a discussion of best active NL pitchers.
great pitching last night, i love ANOTHER shut out!!!!! Keep em' rolling boys!!!!!! Id love to getta sweep on the brew crew oh, and bump
Every week we get the same kind of talk from people 'they can't keep winning' but we keep proving them wrong. Uggla said it best (near but not exact quote) 'People look around our clubhouse and wonder how we can be winning games, but I look around and see these faces and wonder how could we not?'
Looks like another win tonight, assuming we don't collapse in the 8th and/or 9th. Back in the division lead where we belong.
We also need to keep the Philthies at bay. NL East is looking like the strongest division in the NL right now.
Tied with Phils, and 1.5 games up on the Mets and Braves. Things are good but theres still a long way to go. Also if we were to lose first our current record would put us a half game up in the wild card standings.
Imagine how good this team would be if it had a decent payroll. We'd make the Braves' scouting department look like amateurs.
Seriously, its insane to think the dynasty we could have with our scouting and with a bigger budget....its insane
If we doubled Beinfest's allowance, we would very likely be annual playoff contenders, even in this tough division. You know, for once, I would like to win a divisional title.
Yeah, we won both championships with the Wild Card. Are we the only team in baseball to win a championship without also holding a division title?
Well, here's the trivia I could find from Wiki. The Marlins also became the first team since the creation of the Division Series to win the World Series without ever having home-field advantage during their entire post-season. The Marlins became the first opposing team to win a Series championship on the field at Yankee Stadium since the 1981 World Series, when the Los Angeles Dodgers did it. The Marlins won the series despite scoring fewer runs (17) than the Yankees (21) The Marlins are the first team in Major League Baseball to have a dance/cheer team: The Marlins Mermaids. Debuting in 2003, the "Marlin Mermaids" gained national exposure and have influenced other MLB teams to develop their own cheer/dance squads. Though the Marlins have never won a division title, they have also never lost a playoff series in their history (a perfect 6-0). They are the only team (of those who have been to the playoffs more than once) able to claim a perfect playoff record. They are also the only team in MLB history to have won two World Series titles as a wild card playoff entrant and the first team in MLB history to win the World Series as a wild card entrant. Since their first season in 1993, the Marlins join the Red Sox (04', 07') and the Yankees(96',98',99',00') to have multiple titles(97',03') since then.
holy ****! Florida Marlins working on $70 million deal with Hanley Ramirez Lambasted for their major league-low $21 million payroll and perpetual trading of star players, the Marlins are finally keeping one in the fold. According to a Ramirez acquaintance, shortstop Hanley Ramirez and the Marlins are on the verge of finalizing a six-year, $70 million contract extension, the largest commitment in franchise history. The deal is pending a physical and an official announcement might not come until early next week http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/baseball/marlins/sfl-0509ramirez,0,3463470.story
another great article Miguel Cabrera misses ex-team and ex-teammates http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/baseball/marlins/sfl-flsphyde09sbmay09,0,418939.column?page=2 And so, exactly as predicted, one side of the mighty Marlins-Tigers offseason trade sits in first place, with everything going right, the surprise of baseball so far. The other side sits in last place, with nothing going right, the disappointment of baseball so far. "I said two or three years ago if they let us play together, we'll win," he said. "We grew up together. Now those guys have been around and know how to win. And look at them. "They don't need me. They're better without me. Amezaga and Hanley talk to me and say, 'Roomie, come on back here.' I say, 'You don't need me.' Look at them. They're in first place." He looks across the empty clubhouse, perhaps seeing what he doesn't have anymore. And he smiles at the sentence he might actually believe. "They don't need me."
$70 million for Hanley? Fine, it's only six years, but... STEAL. Get it done! Also, I wonder if Miggy regrets whining about his contract now. It's clear he wants to win; if he believes he could have won down here, why didn't he lose weight and play like the Hall of Famer he can be?
I could not be more estatic about the hanley signing!!! This is what i wanted all along, as soon as this stadium broke through, SHOW the fans your keeping this teams foundation FINALLY!!!! Show this fanbase your dedicated to winning year in year out.....show us fans your signing your franchise player, one of the best all around 5 tool players in the GAME....to a deal, lock him up.....no more abirtration BS....get him locked up and show these fans the F'in marlins mean BUISNESS!!! im sorry if this seems over reacting.....but i havent seen one of our great marlins signed to a contract like this......EVER.... Whooooooo!!!!!
Like who? Or if you mean we need to raise payroll in general, it seems the team is willing to do that as the players prove themselves. If Hermida stays healthy, if Olsen pitches lights-out for the rest of this season and into the next, if Amezega continues to make SportsCenter, and/or if Maybin becomes what we think he'll be, then they'll apparently get paid what they're worth. But first they have to prove it. Stadium deal's been done for a couple of months now. They've been working out the minor details--police and fire coverage, for example. At this point, the only real impediment to breaking ground is the fact that the Orange Bowl's demolition is still underway. David Samson said on LeBatard's radio show yesterday that construction will begin by the end of the year. That's cutting it close for a 2011 opening day deadline, but it's doable.
