I would consider John Wooden as the greatest but that's just me. Congrats to Summitt though.

I used to think so too but after living in Knoxville for several years and watching Summitt Coach IMHO there is no finer coach man or woman in all of college hoops. I will put Pat up against Wooten, Smith, Coach K, or anyone else you can name. The Lady has won more championships than anyone, man or woman, no one is better.

finsgirlie do you have ESPN 360? If so they may have it as I would love to watch it also.

Its not hard to win when you have better players than all of about 3 other teams in the country. She is a great coach, but I do not think of her as elite. I wonder how should would do in Mens college Basketball.

Well heres the list of both Coaches and their records. Wooden does have more NCAA national titles but in overall titles Pat Summitt left John Wooten in the dust a few years ago and her winning % is higher.

    Pat Summitt:

    Overall 1000-187 (.813)
    Championships
    8 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championships (1987,1989,1991,1996,1997,1998,2007,2008)
    14-time SEC Champions
    (1980, 1985, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007)
    13-time SEC Tournament Champions
    (1980, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2008)
    Awards
7 Time SEC Coach of the Year (1993,1995,1998,2001,2003,2004,2007)
7 Time NCAA Coach of the Year (1983,1987,1989,1994,1995,1998,2004)
Naismith Coach of the 20th Century

    John Wooden:
    Overall 671-161 (.807)

    As player:
    *1932 National Championship
    As coach:
    *1964 NCAA National Championship
    *1965 NCAA National Championship
    *1967 NCAA National Championship
    *1968 NCAA National Championship
    *1969 NCAA National Championship
    *1970 NCAA National Championship
    *1971 NCAA National Championship
    *1972 NCAA National Championship
    *1973 NCAA National Championship
    *1975 NCAA National Championship

    Plus 9 divisional Championships

And as you'll notice in my opening post I didn't qualify which Championships I just said total.:wink2:

I'll give you this if Pat were unavalable I'd pick John and never look back, now hows that.:knucks:

You mean "she would?" Are you saying that guys are harder to coach or that a woman isn't up to the level of a guy? :shifty::wink2:

A great coach is a great coach, man or woman and a bad one is bad, gender has little or nothing to do with it. If either person is given an equal shake the best always shows up at the top IMHO. WE are not talking about physical strength here only mential and the ability to teach young people who, by the way, are eager to learn. And thats my 3 cents.

I am not taking anything a way from her being a woman. It does not matter what gender you are when it comes to being a head basketball coach. Talent is different between mens and womens (Also not meaning gender). Mens basketball is so hard becuase you have some many good quality teams that can beat about anyone anyday hwoever in womens basketball most of the talent is with just a handful of programs. Look at the NCAA tournament of Mens and Womens. 1 or 2 seeds almost always make it for the Women while the men are much more spread out with upsets. Whould be nice to see Summit actually try a challenge herserlf rather than just sit back and do the same thing. However womens basketball is evolving and becoming more competetive every year.

Please do not make statments suggesting that I am insulting her because she is a woman. Thanks

Notice the wink, I was only pulling your chain, if you took it any other way I'm sorry because it wasn't ment to be that way, Ok?.:wink2::wink2::wink2::wink2: And it wasn't a statement it was a question but again in the interest of taking the high road I say again "sorry".
