No non-QB is worth 3 second rounders. You don't give that up for a guard, for instance. Even Barkley, who I feel is worth the Brown's #1 isn't worth 4 picks by himself, so it has to be a QB. It's an odd move timing-wise though - you'd think they would wait until draft day to do that. Either they are still working on swapping with the Giants or Browns, have a very good idea of who those teams will go with, or they are about equal on the QB evaluations. Perhaps they wanted to prevent the Bills or another team from jumping them with the Colts, who were an obvious move down candidate.

It appears now the Bills will probably move to #2. So the Browns are now going to have to pick a QB #1 (I think) unless they have 4 they like (unlikely). Which means the first 3 picks will be QBs, and 4 of the first 5 picks will be QBs (either Denver will pick a QB or I suspect drop down). If you are at #11, this does push other talent down the board. The Colts moving back is good for the the Browns who can also get Barkley at 4. Wow.

Yeah this could shake out well for the Brownies. I think the best draft possible sees them come out with Barkley and a QB. I've been advocating Barkley at 4, but if they get two QB needy teams at 2-3, then they can choose their #1 QB option and still get Barkley. That team could be relevant this year. IMO I've been of the opinion that the Browns are a special case of needing to really get some pieces to be competitive THIS year. They just can't go 2-14 or 1-15 again, just can't. They have to reach at least 6 I think. Losing Joe Thomas will hurt, but their line isn't bad. They could add Nelson, but I don't really think he gives them the boost needed, not the way Barkley would. I am still curious to see if the Jets have another move planned to swap with New York. It's hard to think they have 3 equal values on QBs.

This was a desperation move because they didn't land cousins.This also might have priced the bills out from moving up to 2.
I wouldn't say the sold the house, but with that being said, I feel bad for whatever QB that goes there. That coaching staff will ruin them.
I'm not convinced the Jets needed to make this move... The Browns, Giants, and Broncos are not locks to take QBs. The Browns have Tyrod Taylor and might prefer to add two difference makers out of Barkley, Chubb and Fitzpatrick. They also have the assets to trade back into the first round for Lamar Jackson or Mason Rudolph. The Giants and Broncos might try to add a difference maker to try and "win now". And the Colts already have two starting caliber quarterbacks in Luck and Brissett, so they would be going for a difference maker. So had they stayed at six, they could have got their guy without giving anything up. Obviously there is a risk that a team trades up above them, but as it stands they have given up three second round picks and are not guaranteed to take the first quarterback. Instead, they could end up picking the third quarterback off the board if this move forces the Browns to take a quarterback with their first pick rather than their second and the Giants decide to add Eli's successor. Plus this is discounting Teddy Bridgewater. Okay he has a lot to prove after his knee injury, but he was highly rated at the end of the 2015 season and arguably was on his way to establishing himself as the Vikings' franchise quarterback. He is well worth the prove it deal they gave him and if he does return to form they have their franchise quarterback. They didn't need to make this move because they could have stayed put and drafted a quarterback at six or just banked on Bridgewater regaining form, and if he didn't look at going QB next year.

I know it goes against the wise tenets of drafting and some of those around here who are much smarter than I am, but I am at the point of saying, why the **** not? I like just about anyone we could take at 11, but are they really going to help us win a Superbowl? I am tired of the same ole, same ole. Don't get me wrong, Jackson probably won't either, but he just might. The dude has freakish athleticism and can hurt you with his arm or his legs. He's a work in progress, no doubt, but wouldn't he be exciting to watch?

not a an which we really need. Tannehill may not get back to his previous level. If that happens we have no plan and it takes years to develop. This is a great QB class and we should take advantage of it
It doesn't always take years. Two can be enough for a team to make the playoffs. I feel coaching and scheme are the biggest factor. A bad coach will wreck even a good AN, a good coach can bri bff a talent along quick. Most recently see with Jeff ****ing Fischer doing everything possible to destroy Goff. Wentz was an mvp before the injury. Ryan, Wilson, etc were fine from the get go. Losing out on a QB this year just puts us 1 year behind, unless we either can't evaluate or coach them. Bonus to the jets trading up is that it either knocks the Bills plans out of whack (This move is a direct response to the Bills jump to 12) or forces them to pay a greater sum to the Giants or Browns.
I know it's a long shot and I have been pounding the table for a QB as much as any, but I have to say that if Fitzpatrick, Chubb, or Barkley is there at 11 then we have to go that route. I don't care if Chubb would give us an extra DE, we shouldn't pass on that. I am not sure how I would feel if Tannenbaum traded up for one of them, but I am sure I would get over it once I saw him play. :-)
While I can agree doesn’t both moves put the dolphins behind both teams? Yes we have Ryan but if he doesn’t work out can we afford to be the only team in the east without a QB? If Ryan comes back strong and is a beast than I can understand but we always seem to not get lucky with comebacks
What I think is interesting is when I look through various draft boards and who the experts feel are the top 10-15 players in this draft overall, Rosen is the only QB cracking the top 15. If four QB's do go in the first 10 picks, then we're guaranteed a top 10 player at a bargain price without moving up at all. I would have to think Barkley is off the boards in the top 5-6 selections and I'm guessing Nelson and Chubb are gone as well. That tells me a solid LB will be there in Edmunds or Smith, we could land Fitzpatrick or James at safety, or we could even go with a Calvin Ridley to take the best WR in the draft. I also have a feeling Vea may still be on the board and he'd probably be my #1 overall pick. But if 4 QB's go early and teams suddenly get desperate with this fairly strong QB class, I could actually see Barkey falling into our laps the way Tunsil did. So realistically I want Vea, but I'm secretly hoping for a lot of dumb teams to give us Barkley.
I don't think this is such a great QB class. There is Darnold, who is the top guy, but then there is Rosen, who has issues with injuries, concussions. There is Baker, who I like a lot, but there are some issues which could give some GMs some pause, such as the height, the attitude, the spread O, etc. There is Allen with the accuracy issues. There is Jackson who some have considered making him a WR. Obviously, only time will tell and I may be rationalizing the fact that we probably won't get one, but still.... As far as the Jets go, this is certainly not a lock to get a great QB. S--t, they liked Hackenberg. Who knows?
Funny. I've been thinking the same thing. I don't think he's Gases' type of QB, but I kind of agree with "why the f not?". It would be kind of fun. Ha!
Probably a smart decision with Brady nearing retirement. Risky, though, as they all could bust easily.
Chubb and Barkley will be long gone by 11. Forget about it, maybe Fitzpatrick falls, but we don't need another box safety. I want Edmunds, but I don't think he will get past Oakland o Chicago, at this point I think trading down fire more picks would be wise unless a real top 10 player who fits what we need falls to us at 11.
This was a dumb move by the jets. Gambling everything on this year's QB class is not a good Idea. All of the top QBs are boom or bust types with serious question marks. I don't see an Aaron Rodgers or Dan Marino in this year's draft. Unless they are sure one of these QBs is that type of player then this is a stupid move.
