Gotta disagree here DJ. I think the current legalities, and other assorted BS, makes Ingram a stronger pick than before.

It now appears that there will be no agreement anytime soon, with very limited camp/pre-season. Who better to pick than a RB? No fitting in with other guys on the OL, no learning coverages or gelling with a QB, no developing. Just give him the damn ball and let him run.

I do not believe there are any two picks combined, in the 1st round, who can be close to Carey IF healthy this year.

 

So many holes to fill in this swiss cheese of a team. I think you got to look at the BA in a postion of need when your on the clock. We have so many needs its hard to think that we cant improve our team and get value in the draft at the same time. Trading down into the 2nd I think is fine but if we are only really picking up a bunch of 3rd rd and later picks forr trading down I'ld rather reach for starter talent in the 1st and sit the 2nd rd out.

I think a good center would vastly improve our line more then anything else. If they go line I hope they upgrade that postion.

 

Honestly I would stack up on skill postions surrounding QB. I wouldn't draft a high QB. I would take WR RB TE WR OL WR RB OL this year. I don't think they have enough time to groom another QB and go through their hardships. Much rather go all out on explosive players this draft.

 

I wonder if we could get DeMarcus Van Dyke.

In addition to being a better nickel than Sapp/Allen, he'd REALLY help our return game...

I wouldn't mind even trading back 5 or 6 spots to pick up an extra 3rd and still take Ingram.

It's not a 2nd, but it's a major plus considering who will be available. Netting Ingram & Little from our 15th pick sounds good to me.

I doubt they take Ingram at 17 with the talent available at DE.

 

A) They have 2 picks in the first. They can Akeem later. Von and Aldon will be gone.
B) Giants would also take him at 19.

 

Why would the Pats not pick a DL, OL or OLB in that spot? They'd be getting much better value. It's possible they take Ingram, it's likely they wont. Outside of Nawlins, there's no other team likely to take him either.

 

Trade back; I know I won't be upset when Ryan Mallett is our only option

 

The Giants OL & LB corps were a serious problem for them last year. Cant see them splurging on a RB in the first round either.

 

Plus, the Saints & Pats have elite QBs. They don't need an elite back as badly as we do, but they both need Dline help.

 

If we take Mallet I'll be in Wolverine bezerker-rage mode so that'll pick up the slack for those who don't understand how screwed we'd be.

Getting stuck at 15 w/ no Julio is my nightmare scenario. I have a feeling it's going to be tough though. Hopefully some team (Chi-Indy-Philly etc) will fall in love w/ one of the OTs or OLBs and move up to make sure they get him. I actually think the lockout can help us in that teams cant fill needs prior to the draft & may be more ancy about moving up. OK I'm reaching, I know...

 

You never know with Belicheck TP, and I agree with Hurricane, the Giants make sense for Ingram, they can go Oline in rd #2 or #3, they have to replace Bradshaw.

Well then we'd be left with LeShoure who I like just fine as a compliment to Lex. I'd rather have LeShoure and a 3rd than Ingram & nothing.

 

Their LBs last year where Boley-Blackburn-Bulluck, not the killer B's, the "please kill me, B's". Bradshaw, Jacobs, Ward, Ware, all mid-late round picks who worked out. They still have the same management team, why would their philosophy change? And is is a foregone conclusion that Bradshaw is leaving? I hadn't heard about that.

 

Leshoure-Little-Moffitt > Ingram-Moffitt, IMO.

 

They add Jason Paul, and Mathias is cleared to play again, one was a highish #1 pick who showed well, the other a proven hybrid OLB/DE.

I'd think so. If pre-season practice is limited, then I'd prefer to have a guy like Little who has the playmaking ability to make an early impact if we can find easy ways to get him the ball.

I wouldn't mind CB Buster Scrine in the 4th. He can impact in the return game while developing into a solid #4 CB....... or eventually push Nolan for the 3rd spot. Someone needs to be added & groomed soon, and this kid is a perfect compliment to our secondary IMO.

Why on earth would you want that? Chad Henne is the biggest problem this team has. We better either draft a QB or sign a proven veteran or we are in the Andrew Luck Bowl next year.

 

Be honest Pads. If we had the Giants LBs you'd be screaming for us to take Aldon Smith, Ayers or one of the other available LB's, not for us to spend our most valuable asset on one of the leagues most undervalued positions. Not saying the wont take Ingram, but I don't see any logical reason why they would.

 

San Diego might be a trade down option again. Apparently AJ Smith really likes JJ Watt, so it's conceivable that they could pull the trigger and move up past Jacksonville and New England. Granted, it's only a trade up of 3 spots, but it could net us an extra 3rd, which is where a lot of the value is in this draft for Miami. And as I believe SD has 2 second rounders, they may be more inclined to pull the trigger.

 

I know where you're coming from, but as someone who lives in Giants country there have been rumors that they have more than a slight interest in Ingram. That and the fact that they tend to follow the BPA theory more than most NFL teams.

 

i still stand pat on that unless a supreme talent falls in our lap -- we're unlikely to stick at 15 ... there just isn't a reason to - since even IF we don't get Ingram, we can still get Leshoure or Williams in late 1 or in 2 or per below - Todman in 3/4. I do not see the NYG picking a RB in rd 1. It's not really even the PATSIES style either - maybe with their late 1, but doubt with their early 1. If we pick before 24, we should still have a very high probability of picking Ingram.

me, i'd trade down to the back end of the round - whether that means 1 or 2 drops .... and open the door for LeShoure (RB), Smith (WR), Camiri(T), and Pouncey (G/C) to meet needs or McDaniel (S) ... what i don't see us doing is drafting a DE, DT, ILB, CB, or TE in rd 1. I've lost some interest in Ayers (OLB) in rd 1 based off of his combine performance, and the only QB i'd see us taking a chance on in rd 1 in Newton - regardless of Mallett's recent performance.

I am not enamoured with Smith in rd 1 - but need could determine his name here

Ingram/LeShoure I'm good with as a later rd 1 pick, Williams not until rd 2

Camiri and Pouncey, I'm good with as later rd 1 picks .... Wisniewski in rd 2, regardless if his stock dropped slightly. Ingram, Pouncey and Wisniewski are good players from NFL Families -- and that carries weight with me. Just like Casey Matthews as a late rd ST/LB pick (he'll need a year to get stronger).

As a UCONN alumnus, i'm a big fan of Todman for RB after Ingram, LeShoure and Williams; he's not a sexy pick - but would not be disappointed if he was our primary RB selection.

the more i look at it .... i keep coming back to Smith (WR), Ingram/LeShoure (RB) as potential impact players, then Solder/Camiri (T) and Pouncey (G/C) as solid 1st rd picks and likely immediate starters; with Newton (QB) as a potential wildcard.

you can pass on Smith and go with guys like Little, Gates or Paul in rd 3 ..... and you could pass on Ingram/LeShoure and go with Williams in rd 2 or Todman in rd 3 .... all possible with a trade down(s).

i think most know that i am a defense 1st type guy .... but i don't see any standout, special Ss; and the one special OLB - Miller doesn't have a chance to reach 15 .... so the only '2' areas that we could potentially improve our 'D' and bring it to elite aren't really there for us.

Please stop saying that Henne is the biggest problem. TEAM inconsistency, injuries, a sloth-like ground game, and a "play for a FG mentality" are. The Jets made it to 2 AFC Championship games with a QB who is no better.

You speak of drafting a project QB in the 1st round as if he's a sure thing to become a franchise QB.
First off, that couldn't be further from the truth. Half of the 1st round QBs drafted during the past 10 years have busted, which isn't very encouraging when considering this crop is lacking in the "NFL ready" department.
Secondly, there's no QB in this draft who will come in and make us better next year (if there is a season).
Thirdly, what "proven vet"?
And lastly---- if the solution were so easy, we would've solved the problem a decade ago.

What will you be saying when we have a rookie QB playing worse than Henne with no ground game to help him out b/c you ignored it for a QB?
.............. and if you think one of the 2nd round or later QBs will just hop in here and spark the team, then you would be greatly underestimating the difficulty of the position.
