The Madden Beatdown Thread

Epic fail on my part. I had a bunch awesome plays, but failed very badly in stopping CK's 5WR set.

Here's some of my badass plays.

yeah, i so decide to pick the first mothereffer i see in quick ranked match. Hes level 21, and picks the Cowboys. I choose Miami. he comes out and uses nothing but run n gun money plays. he tries to RC, but i blast him everytime and he drops it. He got up 14-0 after a very long drive, and a huge mistake on my part. I drive the entire field very slowly and score. he gets the ball back with 1 min left in the half. He keeps coming out in 1-2-2 to get me to defend the run. But Im wise to it by now, and select by best outside pressure play. Do my normal Dline stunt. But when Im switching back to my LE, it lags, and when i try to playmaker blitz, he jumps offside and he snaps it instantly. My defender get crushed by his RT, and he proceeds to hit Owens on the PA X clown deep post. Penalty declined, game over? 21-7, Im screwed right? I then throw another INT and he gets another 3 points before the half. This is my cue to quit the game and give up. But just like so many times before, my perceverence doesnt allow me give up. I keep going, and after half I drive on him and score. Then I absolutely molested him 3 possessions in a row. He was stuck in 4th and forever so many times, and failed. I eventually take the lead with 2:30 left, 28-24. So I just need one more stop, and this clown is toast. Sure enough, 3 and out. oh wait? he's gonna go for it again! Im ready. All WRs locked down! then with pressure in his face, he nails a RC to Owens down the right sideline, and doesnt drop it, despite being hit sticked in the air and flipping head over heels to the ground. That sparks a drive for him and he takes the lead 31-28 with 1 min left. I drive to my own 45, and stall. i was left with no timeouts and only had 20 secs, and every option was covered well. So he wins, congrats to him for not epicly failing.

After the game, he sends me a voice message calling me everything in the book. Says my game is whack, and laughs at me for losing. I remind him of how he completely collapsed in the 2nd half allowing me to come back from 24-7 to take the lead. And reminded him I was using the Dolphins, while he used the Cowboys. he insists that he is way better than me, yet refuses to play again with even teams. i would have loved to hear what he had to say if Owens dropped that RC.

Just one more douche bag who thinks that just because he read an ebook on how to do money plays from the run n gun, then he is unstoppable and has no flaws. Truth is, he had no answer for my line stunt, and only won because of a lag offsides play and a rocket catch that saved his ***. But I'll never get to play this guy again. Oh well. I'd love to shut him up, but at least i know he doesnt believe his own hype. which is hilarious.

 

i wish there were a way to stop your offense. i must choose between rushing the passer and defending the field. no matter which i choose, i lose. it takes 9 guys to cover every route. but then you can just scrammble and playmaker someone to a spot that my defense abandoned. I dont understand why defeners leave their zones. i can playmaker 5 guys to cover the middle, and they will all run away and leave it wide open after 4 seconds. i makes no sense at all. and even if i stop it a few times. it only takes one play to give you a new set of downs. or a facemask penalty, my god, those are such killers.

im just glad that i have a new challenge to overcome. after i learn to stop this, hostile, you will never beat me again.

game #1 - Opponent level 2, Record 48-39

Dolphins vs Ravens (im miami)

owned him the whole game and led 7-0 with 2 mins left. But he scores and then catches me off guard and goes for 2. I drive to mid field then get sacked on a screen play because pennington got stuck in an animation while i was trying to throw. i hit wilford on a 15 yard post on 3rd down to get into field goal range, and he drops it. I punt. then he does a whole bunch of audibles really fast, and i switch my defense, causing my Dt to get falgged for encroachment. 1st and 5, he gets an easy first down with 3 runs, and game is over. I want to die!

game #2 - oppenent level 2 - record 19-15

Dolphins vs Eagles (im miami)

Quick shut down on first drive. 2nd play of my drive i hit ginn on a flanker screen from a 1-2-2 set. nothing but daylight. Xbox freezes. I get a DC loss. Oppenent did not continue, yet the game didnt not show up for him, and it did for me. Which means it was a DC glitch. It should have been a draw for him, and a loss for me if he quit and counted the game. Glitching ******, i hope he rots in hell. Loss #2 on the day.

Miami @ Dallas (im miami)

First play of the game, Chad out for game, and Ginn fumbles on a completed pass. Next play, TD for him on a post. Next drive, Ginn fumbles again. Td for him after about 5 plays. Then another turnover, pcik this time. You guessed, TD for him again, on a left slot streak against cover 3. 21-0. His passing attack couldnt be stopped with the Miami secondary. He completed at least 10 deep bombs into coverage without even clicking on to his WR. We go back and forth for awhile in the 2nd quarter, and i go into halftime down 2 TDs. As usual, I rape him in the 3rd quarter and come storming back. With 2 mins left Im down one score and have the ball. This is where the sky falls from the heavens. I throw a pick 6 and he then stops my offense again. Game over, right? hes up 2 scores and has the ball. WRONG!!! It wasnt over in his mind. He find a new way to beat me deep and does it again for a score. Then onside kicks it and gets it and does it again. Then I throw a pick with 13 secs left, and he scores again on the last play of the game. I lose by 26 after being within one score with the ball with only 2 mins left. Shoot me now!!!! Loss #3

game #4 - opponent level 1 - record 0-0

Dolphins @ Raiders (im miami)

This guy told me he was pretty good, so i played him. he said he took out some notable high ranked peeps last year. He gets the ball first and runs left or middle everytime. I let him get all the way to the 10, then put on the locks, but he scores on a PA pass to his TE. Thats the last time he scored. I rocked his offense the rest of the game. I actually came up with a very easy nano in the 4th quarter that really drove the nail into the coffin. i win, but this guy wasnt as good as he thought. still looking for my first big win of the day.

i just played someone who RCed on me. Level 4, 24-17, aop 14. He can also block kicks, and got two of mine. But his RC, lol. Im afraid took his version and twisted it up into a little ball and threw it in his face. He swore by his ability to "Jordan Walk" with Colston. Lol. I took him up on that challenge. He got the first 2. After that, lmao, dude got jacked up so hard, over and over and over and over. I lost by 3 points, 36-33, with the blocked kicks being the difference. I didnt even try a FG on 4th and short at the end of the game because i knew it would be blocked. He stopped me and then ran backwards with reggie bush all over the field until the clock ran out. It was a very fun game, but the RC he was trying, lol, the way i pasted him was so excellent. He's like, watch this, your guy wont even be near colston. Then I got 3 guys all over him the entire way, and basted him so hard i cant believe he made it through the game alive.

The Broncos offense is like having sex and getting head at the same time. I was in 20+ yard situations on multiple occasions and just dropped back and threw to whoever was wide open. This is true because it is impossible to cover all of them. Your only hope is to hit Jay Cutler before he signs his name on your coffin. I am so confident in this offense, it should be illegal.

aboome, if you want a match, i'd be glad to show you what i got. not guaranteeing a victory, but i feel like im far better prepared to face you now than ever before.

also, i played ANN ARBOR MI last night, ranked #13 overall in case you dont know. he is very good with oakland. i blasted him on the opening possesion and forced a turnover on downs, and then got a FG, and never sniffed scoring territoy again. shortly after that game, i labbed something that i think would have given me fair odds at matching his skill level. he uses some really good outside slants and corner routes. he can RC too, but i think i made him uncomfortable trying that.

 

thanks. ill give that a try. but i think he has already burned me using that d. doesnt matter now though. i may not need to ever sotp anyone again.


i just got done with an unranked game where i was planning on labbing one thing, XP blocks. I am really close to being able to block kicks. But when the guy comes free up the middle, he always dives to the left of where the ball is. i was using the cardinals and put karlos dansby in at DT on special teams. he has 85 speed, good awareness, and is 6'4". he fits the perfect mold of what is needed to shoot through the gap i create, but he always dives off to the side even though he is right there for the block. so anyway, i go into unranked to see if i can get him to block one in a real game. i let my opponent score on the first play, then almost get the block. then i kick a FG on my first play and give him the ball right back. he scores and i dont even get into the backfield for the XP. so this time i decide to run my best vertical offensive play against him to see if he has cover skills. yeah, he does. he's using the raiders btw. he also uses the 3DL contain rush. but his user controlled defending skills were supurb. he stops me and i punt, and let him run it back to the 5. THIS IS WHERE MY LAB TURNS INTO A GOLD MINE!!!! The play I use to 'block kicks' just so happens to be insanely effective at stopping an offense in goal-to-go situations. he gets rocked 3 times and settles for a FG, which i didnt even come close to blocking. So thats one big find from this lab. Now onto the next. I chose a play to get the ball to fitzgerald very quickly. Well it just so happens that i found an unstoppable play. And we're not talking about hard to stop, purely UN-STOP-ABLE. How unstoppable you ask? I was 0-3 passing before this play, i then ran this everytime for the rest of the game, and finished 38-46 passing with 5 scores. of the 7 incompletetions i threw, 3 were before i tried this play, 2 were hail mary attempts at the end of the half, and the other two were knocked down at the line of scrimmage. Fitz finished with 27 catches, hightower with 9, breston with 2. all from one play. Let me remind you that my opponent was very good at pass coverage and was trying VERY HARD to stop me. i dont know the record this guy has, but he is good. After he gets online again and accepts my friend request, ill check his career. So thats two great finds in this lab session, neither of which i was planning to find. But there is another. Yesterday I stummbled onto a very good nano blitz by chance, and its the easiest to set up of any nano of alltime. But it was vulerable against the short to medium pass attack. Well, i made a few adjustments, and this guy got rocked like no other. from the time i stopped letting him score on purpose, till the end of the game, i outscored him 49-7. jamarcus russel turned the ball over 6 times, 2 fumbles (1TD), and 4 picks. i gave this guy a 17-0 lead in the frirst quarter, then by absolute luck, a make an insanely huge breakthough on both offense and defense, and i cruise past him with completion after completion, and turnover after turnover. after the game he tells me thanks for showing him that in an unranked game. im guessing he is going to try to steal my new weapons. if he can figure them out by watching the plays after the game.

ok, i just lost another game because of my defense. getting pretty numb to it now. but i did do something excellent in the process.

TIP DRILL 101

Just finished a game with Kurt Warner 24/24 passing, 1 TD, bout 220 yards. Yet only a 118.0 rating? How is that possible? 100% completions. My oppenent was 8/11 with one TD with Big Ben, and had a rating in the 140's. Thats weird. I spread the ball out to everyone and controlled the clock the entire game. I got a sack in the second quarter with the game tied 7-7. That sack cost him the game, lol. He had to punt. I used up the remaining 4 minutes of the 2nd quarter and scored a TD. Then I used the entire 3rd quarter, and 45 seconds of the 4th quarter on my TD drive to start the second half. Oh yeah, he did have time to get a FG right before halftime, but he was still down 21-10 with 4 minutes left. Then he makes the mistake of running the ball. I come out on dime and let him have the middle of the field as much as he wants. He uses 3 1/2 minutes and gets a TD, but misses the 2pt conversion. Onside kick failed. I win. I think I had the ball for 16 minutes. Pretty much 8 minutes of each half were mine. And I only had the ball 4 times, including the kneel out at the end.

 

to block kicks --> select the standard FG block play --> toggle onto the DT that is driectly in front of the RG --> move him two spots to the left using the dpad --> hold RB until the ball is snapped. its not 100% effective, but it works quite often. it wouldnt be uncommon to get one blocked kick per game.


passing tips:

• figure out what kind of coverage your opponent is using
• streaks from the slot beat cover 3.
• streaks down the middle beat cover 2.
• curls and slants beat cover 4.
• drags and digs beat man.
• keep using new formations, and new receivers to keep them guessing.

rushing tips:

• run when they are expecting pass
• shift your line to block the opposite direction of the run
• use fast rbs
• tosses and stretch plays to the strong side work well against inside pressure.

defense:

• first, figure out their tendency when dropping back to pass. see if they scrammble to the out quickly. see if they drop back a mile and then throw.
• for someone who scrammbles outside quickly. put one of your DEs in contain, and manually rush from the other side. this destroys playaction, and can cripple someones offense if they are uncomfortable throwing from the pocket.
• if they drop back a mile, just send 3 pass rushers, and drop the rest into coverage. user control a LB or S and attack their favorite target. force them to find someone new. try to remember who they throw to the most from each formation. maybe even write it down.
• against the run. shift your DL line. manually pursue the RB with a LB, and blitz at least one other LB. some zone defenses work well against the outside run, but can be destroyed if they have 3 or more lead blockers on one side.

general tips:

• if someone is dominating you on defense, then you obviously dont know what they are doing to you. so take the time after the game to go back and watch some plays where you failed. figure out what defense he was using, then go into practice mode and play against that defense until you can beat it everytime. some defenses cant be simulated in practice mode without a 2nd player. and some cant be simmed at all, because some people are just good enough that they can user control a defender and take away pretty much every play. (cough, aboome, cough)
• only play people whohave winning records. i just played random opponents for a long time, and you never learn anything that way. by narrowing your opponents down to only good players, you will probably lose, but you will learn a lot at the same time. and before you know it, youll be beating people ranked in the top 5000 on a regular basis.
