The major offensive failure is with Bill Lazor, not Ryan Tannehill

His receivers go up and catch the ball or are so wide open over the middle that he just has to get them the ball. I am flabbergasted by how many times Kelly's offense can get a speeder wide open with no one closer than 20 yards from him.

Plus all of the wonderful YAC.

It's entirely possible if not probable that Foles's ability downfield opens up those other opportunities for plays.

The quarterback's ability and play have an effect on how other players on offense function. It's not just a relationship that goes in the other direction, where the other players on offense affect the quarterback.

Again an extreme example may illustrate the point: what kinds of playmaking opportunities do folks think would be present for other players if you trotted a kindergartener out there at QB? The defense would compress the line of scrimmage and take away just about everything. Contrast that with having Foles's ability downfield. Now the defense has to respect the longball, and opportunities open up underneath.

This would be relevant if Nick Foles were on this team. I'd be very happy if that were so, but he isn't on this team.

What Dolphins QB can get this offense going?

I'm not trying to be abrupt or argumentative, but Lazor better not be waxing nostalgic over Nick Foles. He needs to figure out who he has and what they can do. He also needs to figure out if Tannehill's problems are a learning curve or if they're more serious.

The only way to compensate for Tannehill is to tell the receivers to come to a dead stop 1.1359 seconds after the ball is thrown. Because that's the only guessing game I can think of that makes Tannehill into an accurate quarterback.

LOL. Bill Lazor does deserve criticism, but Tannehill deserves more.

Fax this down to Davie, I'm sure the coaching staff will appreciate it.

The relevance of Nick Foles is his quick and highly successful adaptation to a similar offense early in his career, while being coached by the Dolphins' current coordinator. It's a piece of the puzzle perhaps in understanding Ryan Tannehill currently.

Raising a figurative eyebrow over a lack of correlation isn't really a puzzle, it's more along the lines of innuendo.

There are greater questions that should be asked of the coach in the role of educator than there are of the quarterback at this point.

What tells you that it's more the coach's problems as an educator than it is the quarterback's limitations as a player?

The problem I see, Dis, is that the starting QB position for an NFL franchise is no place to learn how to play quarterback.

Because there's a pretty clear pattern, and it extends to other positions as well.

Even long-term veterans are put in that position, and the position was essentially precipitated by Bill Lazor's decision making.

Ricky Bobby, in that picture story, where do you want Tannehill to be more aware? He got rid of the ball quickly...He tried to hit the crossing route, the only open route when he was throwing it quick to avoid the blitz. Miller doesn't come open in the middle of the field until after the ball is thrown. If Tannehill doesn't throw the ball at Hartline, Miller would not have come open, as the defender would have stayed on him. Clay may have been an option...but I question if he would have been able to get the ball out to Clay without taking a sack. You can see the coverage is tight on him when Tannehill starts his throwing motion to hit Hartline on the crossing route.

This is precisely what I think the problem is, and it was abated somewhat by having Tannehill start his career in his college system with his college head coach as his coordinator. Now that those variables have been removed, we're seeing the typical "rookie QB" play we would've likely seen from the beginning, had they not been present then.

I don't get how you guys who are so down on Tannehill can sit there and act like Tannehill has not been let down numerous times this season by receivers dropping balls that should have been caught, and offensive line unable to stop pressure up the middle from 4 rushers, and having a defense that stops playing in the fourth. I mean, it's like we're watching different games. The only thing I can figure is that you have an agenda, and don't want to look at the whole picture. Sure, Tannehill has had his share of struggles, but to act like HE is what is wrong with the team is just stupid. You can shuffle whoever you want in at QB, and it isn't going to magically make the WR's catch passes, the OL block, and the defense force turnovers and stops in the fourth.

    I thought it was clear

Tannehill immediately looks at Hartline. If he would have been aware he would have thrown to miller.

The defender was blitzing and miller was running a route, neither of them differed from that during the play. You saying the defender would cover him is not true, miller immediately started running his route after the ball was snapped.

You're supposed to throw into the blitz. Coincidentally, if he would have thrown towards the only free blitzed to miller, we could have scored. On the left of the last picture you can see a shadow...that's the only defender between miller and 6.

Instead he threw it to Hartline with Sean smith already in strong position. We get a TD there and make the 3 later and this is a totally different game with KC down 10

The play Ricky demonstrates is an inability to multitask.

If the slant is covered you must know where your outlet is, if it's a blitz he's your hot receiver because he's leaving his area.

There are more of these kind of plays in this game..

    Sucks man.

And this is the sort of thing that I think the coaches are seeing, as well, and what is making them consider benching Tannehill.

I haven't seen every Foles snap but I doubt he's making all the same mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes but you don't get to 100+ passer rating without playing exceptional football. And the bolded part is a pretty important difference.
