Philbin of Fede.. if you listen and watch the interview, he laughed and grinned from ear to ear, in a very good way..here's the quote.

" he never stopped coming Joe, and he just kept going to the whistle, it wasn't always pretty or textbook, ( chuckled while saying) but the guy kept coming, he may of played more snaps then anyone on our team, but he just kept coming"

Should be fun to see how this kid evolves, he's a big boy.

I know CK said in one of the threads that he was beasting..looks like the coach agrees.

I will never complain about our depth on D line.

I wonder if at a certain point if Fede and Shelby aren't competing for the same spot. They're both in the same strongside/6-technique type mold, and I think the nature of the other players on the roster don't do them a lot of favors- Wake sits in the spot they'd normally occupy in the base defense, and some of the heavy snap guys are versatile enough to eat into some of the traditional sub roles. The competition at DT also makes the math a bit tighter at DL in general.

I think that works, and if you factor in Jordan being gone the first 4 games, those are the 8 I'd keep.

I think the question becomes where do you drop someone else on the roster? Do you keep 3 QBs on the 53-man, or do you cut Devlin and keep Lobato, Jensen or someone else on the practice squad? How does Marcus Thigpen factor into the return game or can Landry take that job? How many players in the secondary do you keep? How many do you keep - meaning extras - while Reshad Jones is suspended? Miami kept 11 for most of last year. All that probably has to sort itself out over the coming weeks.

Under no circumstances do I keep lobato, Landry flashing at punt returner muddles the picture because while he may be good at returning punts, kickoffs is a different animal and we have no one besides Thigpen that can do it..

The Devlin situation is another tricky one, yeah, best to. Just kept some things play out..

I wouldn't keep Lobato either, just merely using him as an example if they did cut Devlin. I'm sure there will be better QB options that get cut later in the year that you could put on the practice squad, if in fact they do cut Devlin.

if you watch the videos from the homepage, the latest video of brandon gibson, look who chimes in from the right, is that andrew abramson ??? how tall is he 5-3 ??? LOL

also bill lazor said he hasn´t made the decision yet if he will be on the sideline or on the booth during the season, he wanted to be on the sideline at the first game, to answer question directly and wanted to see the leadership and poise from the players on the sideline, liked the tempo of the first team offense, liked that the first pass went to a running back and he liked that 5 OL were there to help miller up after the first catch....good stuff

I'm not Pate, but sure we could. Carry 7 LBs and 9 DBs, that makes 25 defensive players. On offense, carry 3 QBs. 4 RBs. 4 TE/FB/H-backs, 5 WRs and 9 OL. 25 offensive players. 3 specialists.

Landry can return kickoffs too for that matter. Or, one of the RBs could do it. With the increased number of touchbacks, the punt returns are where there is a much bigger chance of impacting the game.

In the meantime, while Jordan is suspended, we could still carry either AJ Francis or Garrison Smith. Then by the end of the 4th week, there may be an injury that Jordan needs to come back and take a spot from that player.

Philbin apparently has been quite fond of Devlin, but I'd not keep a 3rd QB if it meant cutting a promising player at another position. We could keep a 6th WR, like maybe Matt Hazel, or a 10th DB, which could be Walt Aikens, Demetrius Wright or Kevin Fogg.

IMO, keeping 11 DBs last year was kind of an aberration that was necessary because Taylor and Davis came into the season injured and of course we aren't going to cut them, but still needed 9 healthy DBs.

Little short guys like that, get really pissed off if you pat them on the head and say: how you doing there little feller? So, don't do that if you meet him. I was in the service with a guy who like about 5'6, and he said the one word that would really piss him off if anyone called him that, was pipsqueak. So if you meet Andrew, don't call him a pipsqueak. That wouldn't be nice. :shifty:

Fede was very impressive but I thought he faded (damn there really are a lot of ways to play on Fede's last name, aren't there?) as he went on.

There's no question that physically he has the ability to give even high level prospects like Jake Matthews a very hard time (and he did). He was relentless in the way he went about it all night. But at some point he just sort of ran out of ideas for how to get pressure in pass rush. He has a lot he needs to be taught.

But you want a good case study in pass rusher body language and a guy who is giving you all the right signs versus a guy giving you the wrong signs, I'd say just compare Fede to Jordan all night. For some reason Jordan just wouldn't commit.

I was glad to see PFF also give a high grade to Jordie Tripp. He absolutely deserved it.

The thing is, Tripp only lit up like a christmas tree when they asked him to play MIKE in this style of defense. That was when he really got aggressive, almost reckless, very physical, constantly running out in front of where the run plays are going and disrupting them. That's why whenever I hear people saying Tripp should be starting in place of Ellerbe or Wheeler I keep thinking you've got it wrong. He really needs to be the MLB for this defense if anything at all. He needs to be given a chance to compete with Koa Misi for that job straight up, and see if Tripp can learn to cover from that position. He's not really that far behind Misi in coverage, and he's got the potential (movement skills) to be way better.

    Definite possibility.

It always seems to me that the final roster spots come down not just to competition at a particular WR but to evaluating player vs player at different positions; and particular needs as well as talent. It may come down to keeping 9 DLs vs 6 WRs.
