How about a correlation between turnovers produced by a defense and improved overall offensive performance?
Smith is part of the defense that sucked at takeaways and Henne is part of the offense that would have benefited had they done better at it.

I disagree. I think there is a common misconception that most people that don't believe Chad Henne is the QB to lead the team of the future, have such a negative outlook that they would prefer poor performance from him and the team. The exact opposite is true IMO. I don't think he's very good. However, if he plays well next year, the team performs well, or even if he is OK, but the team performs well, I'm completely content. I just want winning football and playoffs--which I believe the team is capable of being with their talent level.

So, now we are to assume that the poor offensive play-calling, the poor running game, the poor run blocking, and poor QB play would have been immediately been corrected given a shorter field? Wasn't the problem of this team scoring TD's to begin with?

Again, it's my opinion, that we're now stretching for another excuse on to why Chad Henne is struggling. There are plenty of reasons for that IMO. To try and go to the opposite side of the ball, is a stretch.

It's not a stretch to say, those plays caused the team to lose ball games. I absolutely agree with that. However, to directly attribute their missed plays to Chad Henne's poor performance isn't plausible, IMO.

Would more takeaways by the defense increase chances to score TDs?

I think the thing that bugs me, is IF Sean Smith is being overly critical of Henne's performance, like was said earlier in this thread. Until Smith learns to hang on to the ball, at least on the gimme int chances, he doesn't have room to be critical in public of any teammate IMO.

This thread started out as suggesting that we are likely interested in Matt Moore once free agency opens, if it ever does. Then it morphed into half a dozen starters supposedly saying we needed to upgrade at QB. Smith said this. Hartline said that. Langford said this, Ricky said that. But no linked quotes produced. The only one that was close to it was Wake, and his quote was twisted from him saying he is supportive of Henne, to oh he really isn't he is just being politically correct, so to speak. Crowder was on WQAM with Sid recently, and I do not recall him trashing Henne or even hinting he should be replaced. Of course being a blind Henne supporter, I may have just blocked out that part.

your misunderstanding my point..the point its a team game, and if the rest of the team made some plays offensively AND defensively, and special teams, the QB played good enough at his position to win the game..example Pittsburgh..jet game..

Ya. My bad too MrC. I was just disagreeing with your point. I didn't know that either Hartline or Smith said that. I'm in your camp. I'd like to see the links. Sean Smith has absolutely no right to say anything.

Conversely, Chad Henne's interceptions don't have any affect on Sean Smith. Sean Smith's job is stop the opposing WR, whether it's a short field or not. He's still accountable for making plays--which he did have issues with last year.

    That's jading the point though.

You're absolutely a 100% right in that post as to how it regards to a team. If all 3 phases made different plays, it would have a direct outcome to the result of the game for sure.

However, to directly correlate a player's play on the opposite side of the ball to another player isn't direct at all--it's a reach.

Absolutely had Sean Smith caught a few more balls, results could be different. Absolutely, it would have given the offense more scoring opportunities and a better chance to punch the ball in. However, to insinuate that from there on it would have improved Chad Henne, is just that insinuation.

You can say, if Kendall Langford intercepts that pass the Dolphins win. That's true. They had no timeouts, little time left in the game. Boom--game over. However, it's not true to say: If Sean Smith intercepts a pass against the Jets at their 29, then Chad Henne scores a TD. Who knows what happens?

More chances means more opportunities, yes. However, both positive and negative plays can derive from that.

so since this turned into another bashing of chad henne thread lets not forget one thing, the players and their remarks about him does not really matter at the end of april was the nfl draft , the front office had a chance to upgrade the QB. position but guess what, they didnt, so this is the biggest confidence vote for henne and its straight from upstairs and this is the most important one, this can of course go all down the drain if at some point FA starts and we make a move to get a QB quickly but at the moment henne has the confidence from this regime, it up to him to get the players on his side again, i pray he can do it with performance on the field

You know what I really came away with this offseason from breaking down the film..

Henne really has outstanding arm talent..and, he was really dealing with poor play and intelligence from crucial aspects of the game..

If most folks want to give up on that, without properly quantifying it, thats on you..

You add a dimension of speed to this offense so the two weapons he did have can have a little space to work with, improved overall play from a run game that was poor, more intelligence and rhythm from your offensive coordinating, some weapons for an offense that was lacking in that dept, and better than last place in starting field position, and Henne will pick you apart with his arm..

We did not have the players that could assist a QB in winning the game, and assist in him having better stats..Marshall and Bess were not enough, and wouldn't be enough for any 2nd year starter..

Why do you think we took 4 offensive players with our first 4 picks....Because the position's that each draft pick plays, desperately needed to be addressed.

Let the arm talent combined with a balanced arsenal, play some football and see what happens..

Remember, coaches expectations in this league is that they view the 2nd year starting to be on par with the first year starting, nothing more, they consider that, improved play..

Henne had a better completion percentage, better YPA, and a better QBR in his 2nd year, all dealing with serious weaknesses that we are all aware of, and have acknowledged..

What I noticed the most, was how much of the field was taken away from Henne, with Only Bess and Marshall on it..

What was the word most used in the offseason in terms of what this offense needed..?........''SPEED''.

This kid has an amazing arm, better arm than anyone available...lets not forget that fact..
