So my weekly "The Sporting News Magazine" came in today and they had a draft preview by ex NFL scout Russ Lande (know wonder he is an ex Scout) and his mock draft had such hilarious picks as: ~ Jets taking WR Kenny Britt at 17 over Jeremy Maclin (who he had going 35 to St.Louis). ~ Knowshown Moreno at 16 to San Diego. ~ Hakeem Nicks at 56 to Miami. ~ Vontae Davis at 36 to Cleveland. ~ Clay Matthews at 52 to Jets. ~ Jarron Gilbert at 62 to Tennessee. ~ Sean Smith at 66 to St.Louis (I swear this guy is a Rams fan). ~ Rashad Johnson at 96 to Pittsburgh.
Yikes, Scooby! I've heard of trying to be different....LOL I'd like to see what the rest of it is like. Posted via Mobile Device
Lande rates the players without regards to how they will actually come off the board. He was noteworthy for rating Bulger a 1st round pick when most had him as an UDFA. So is mocks are never predictions but rather his opinion of how the players should be rated. He's unorthodox but he does have a good rep as a talent evaluator.
I can understand your gripe. I'm sure you have watched and studied all of those players more than Lande has. Next time I talk to him, I'll suggest he confer with you on his mock drafts. So he doesn't make a mockery of the mocks.
He was also noteworthy for ranking Tim Couch before the draft, as a 2nd rounder, when EVERY other draft guru was sniffing Couch's jock and saying he was a lock as the #1 overall player. Where is Couch playing these days?
Not to toot my own horn, but I had both Couch and Harrington rated as 2nd rounders as well. Of course I may have had a few misses as well, but we don't speak of those.
Well last year's draft was not like anyone thought so maybe this guy is just trying to be different. Alot of crazy things happen on draft day.
despite having some good predictions as mr clean has pointed out, it seems as if his method is to miss on a whole bunch of players and then get praised for the few that he calls correctly.
If that is the case, we really can't argue with him.. now or after the draft because it is just his opinion of how it "should" be. All we can do is give "ours" which will be just as valid.
Im going to copy and paste this for everytime I give props to Heyward-Bey, because I usally get jumped by like 30 people telling me how wrong Iam.
if we get nicks at 56, i'll do backflips from here to Miami. (assuming i could do one backflip first)
You forgot...."All he is, is a track star" Your my 1st victim! If that is the case, we really can't argue with him.. now or after the draft because it is just his opinion of how it "should" be. All we can do is give "ours" which will be just as valid.
