Edit: Other leagues, such as the NHL, are following suit. A second Jazz player, Donovan Mitchell, also tested positive for the virus.
Tom Hanks of all people is quarantined in Australia with a positive diagnosis.

Things are getting serious in a hurry...and it doesn't really matter that the Coronavirus is very mild. People are freaking out and going into full hoarding-mode, which is causing shortages and even more panic. I think it's pretty obvious that this outbreak can drastically change our everyday routines in a matter of weeks- and I'm not sure if it's right for the NBA to take this step or not.

Mild in what regard? While nowhere near something like ebola, it does seem much stronger and more lethal than the flu, mostly to those with health issues or over the age of 60. I think caution and prudence will and probably should be the name of the game for the next few weeks until we have a better handle on the situation. As for the NBA (along with other things we are seeing like the Mariners relocating games and the NCAA going fan-less) you are probably seeing them act out of an interest in avoiding potential liability. I suspect we see a lot more. I'd be surprised if the Draft goes off as normal at this point.

Mild in a technical sense is not needing to go to the hospital.
So if you are in bed for two weeks with high fever but don't need to go to a hospital because you can still breathe well enough, then you have a mild case.KeyFin likes this. -
Yeah, most cases are reporting very mild flu-like symptoms with a slight cough and occasional sneezing. Eventually a 102+ fever will appear for a few days and that's basically it for healthy individuals....many don't even know that they're sick (prime example- Rudy Gobart of the NBA). Some Estimates expect there's 10x the number of Coronavirus cases actually reported.
Healthcare professionals are asking folks NOT TO come to your primary care physician if you're not super sick since that just gets others infected as well- they'd rather you self-isolate at home for two weeks instead. Like the flu though, there's nothing modern medicine can really do unless you need help breathing or get dehydrated.
Personally, I'm hoping that I catch the virus soon while it's so mild...I'd much rather deal with it now instead of when millions are sick and the media acts like it's the bubonic plague. We already can't buy toilet paper, sanitizer, thermometers, wipes and similar products locally because of people hoarding...that's the real threat in all of this.aesop and Dol-Fan Dupree like this. -
The key there is for "healthy people" - for those with pre-existing issues or the elderly this is much more dangerous than the normal flu we see.
