That was also a knock on Jarvis Landry coming out...doesn't seem to have hurt their chemistry in any way. 14 catches a lot of passes with a defender on or near him, how can that be considered a weakness for RT?

 

Edit: I recall quite a bit of disagreement with the Landry pick for that reason, and speed limitations. He IMMEDIATELY built chemistry with RT and the rest is history. The new kid seems to be doing the same thing.

I think Parker may be similar to Wallace, in that Tanne may not be able to take full advantage of his skill set.

I wasn't trying to compare them as WRs, just in that their skill set may not "fit our QBs skill set", lol, still love that line.

Not sure I'd agree with you that Parker doesn't fit Tannehill's skillset. You mentioned T-Hill having to throw Parker open, etc.. But Parker's vertical separation ability is his primary asset, and we've never really seen T-Hill succeed or struggle with such a WR. So it's mostly an unknown right now. Personally, I think Parker will make T-Hill's job much easier, especially in the redzone, and they'll form a great combo with enough practice.

 

Parker is not a dominant, come in and produce right away type player, especially in the system he currently plays in. If he works hard and stays healthy he'll be a good player come year 2-3. That's not a criticism, Dez took a couple years to hit is stride and he's a more physically gifted player in a less complex offense. I expect Parker to make a few plays here and there not to be a consistent threat.

 

The thing is, he's not Brandon Marshall or Andre Johnson where he can just throw it into a crowd and those guys body up for the ball AND take the punishment that goes along with it, he just isn't that guy.

Parker found it difficult to separate in college against smaller, slower and weaker competition, imo for him to get his in the NFL he will have to be read open, he is slow off the line and slow out of breaks because he has poor acceleration, not a good fit for a quick hitting offense with a QB that doesn't read open much at all.

Playing inside vs outside is a different game and against very different competition. Either way, if Parker averages 9 yards per catch on the perimeter, this offense ain't going anywhere.

 

He may not be a Brandon Marshall or an Andre Johnson, but have you heard of a guy named A.J. Green? They have a very similar body type.

Plenty of instances in this video where Bridgewater doesn't exactly throw him open, yet he jumps up and catches the ball with CB's draping over him or instances where there's a CB right beside him, but he makes a subtle adjusment so that he throws off the CB and catches the ball at its highest point. In fact, that's one of his strengths, making contested catches even when he isn't really open. They might not be the physical types of catches you'll see Brandon Marshall and Andre Johnson making, but he makes them, albeit in a more subtle and finesse way.

I think Parker might take a little while adjusting to the NFL, but he will be a factor by mid-season, IMO.

 

Parker is not Green, they are different players, size alone does not dictate who a player is.

 

Offbase, to get off the LoS is more about hand fighting and footwork not acceleration.

Parker's catch radius is what will be the determining factor, THill will get the ball there, may not be placed in the optimal position, it will be there and it is up to the Wr to make the play happen, which Parker can make happen

Real problem is, roles, if we have Jennings and Landry starting, Parker becomes the #3 guy

 

If Lazor is smart, he won't stick to fixed #1/#2 receiver, etc.. he'll plug in whichever WR's have the right skillset for the play. As a group, our WR's have a diverse and complementary skillset. It would be a real shame if Lazor doesn't take advantage of that.

 

Parker is neither physical (hand fighting), or quick (footwork), quick is acceleration, which is why he has difficulties getting off the line, and why he was caught from behind so many times, and why so many of his catches were contested, and that was in college, against smaller, slower, weaker and less savvy players.

Catch radius is good, but especially in a bubble, when you draw 2 pie graphs on a piece of paper, 1 is bigger than the other so it's very easy to see, but if there is a CB INSIDE the WRs catch radius, then the catch radius shrinks, iow, you have to remove pieces of the pie, so a WR with a smaller catch radius that is wide open has a larger catch radius than a WR with a large catch radius that has a CB in his hip pocket, especially in the NFL.
