Clark has NBA shooting skill and range, which means he can be a useful player. Hell, James Jones has stuck around for 10 years with the exact same skill.

Heat needs to throw a little cash his way to keep him on their team. He's scheduled to play with Spurs in Vegas.

All the other guys I could take or leave but Varnado, Ennis, Stephens and Kabongo should get training camp look

Think it's the Warriors that have Ian Clark for Las Vegas.

I'd drag Varnado, Clark, Stephens and Hopson to training camp. Through 1.5 games those are the only guys that have impressed enough to make it.

Varnado's ceiling is a Joel Anthony who can catch. TBH I'm not expecting much realistically from this group. It was fun to watch them lock down Trey Burke yesterday though.

A lot of people felt this way about CJ Leslie prior to the start of the year...if there is such a thing as too unselfish, hes it...Id be shocked if he didnt at least become a rotation player in the NBA. Maybe not this year, maybe not even next but hes a good player. :

Birdman signing the minimum with Heat will get 2.04M plus 4.35 (from Denver) = $6.39M. If he signs for MLE (with another team) he gets 3.2 plus 3.6 (from Denver) = $6.8M. Hmmmm looks like he's going to sign with the Heat because a chance at another championship ring will make up for more than the difference.

Laker fans are nearing delusional status:

"..we did not want Howard anyway! We lost Metta but signed Kaman, Kobe is out until Spring, next yr we start rebuilding!!!!"

They still have 300 yr old Steve Nash though, my goodness suspect things get ugly in Lakerville this year.

Kobe wont be there....all of their contracts they have now will be expired by that time (the ones that matter anyway), essentially LBJ could say "you, you, you come with me"....

I don't think he leaves South Beach however he has it made down there....

This isn't entirely correct. Lebron can't pick a new team because pretty much everyone he could conceivably want that could approximate anything he has is wrapped up under contract.

DeNile is in Egypt, not LA FY.

I think the message of Howard leaving LA is they no longer have the prestige they once had, and who knows if Kobe will be there or not? He's become something of a white elephant, expensive to keep, can't give away.

I think this is the reality some are having a really hard time with. The Lakers are not a premiere franchise right now. They don't have a premiere coach or a premiere front office and the current generation of players don't give a **** about franchise mystique.

My bad, it's just an offer. Woj reporting they offered that, he has to accept that, right? Nobody else would put up that kind of money on a giant question mark.

Bynum to the Cavs. Only figures I see right now is 2 years $24mil.

    Welp lol

Eh, I think they have a premier GM. But the rest I definitely agree on and I think the perception, right or wrong, is that Jim Buss is not his dad and is actually something of a putz. I think Kobe, maybe Pau and Nash as well know of and care about the Laker brand. I dont think the rest do.

The trade that really hurt them was the CP3 vetoed deal. Not sure if they still would have had enough assets to get D12 but that mess would have been somewhat avoided and they'd still have a young big man in Bynum if they wanted to have him around. Even with the injuries, hes still a good player.

I know that offer has been out there for a few days. 2nd year is a team option based on minutes and games played.

I think that was the tipping point for them.
They haven't been operating from a position of strength since.

Now the talk is all Carmello to LA for some reason.

I can't see anyone matching that given Bynum's injury status and his lack of commitment to get back. Cleveland overpaid.

    Which is funny because:
    1) Carmelo's really going to leave NY when the Knicks are set up better long term then LAL?
    2) Carmelo's from here
    3) Carmelo can get paid more here. After 2013-14 he has a 23.7M team option and after that is eligible for "The Kobe Extension" 5 years/135. And I call it that because I dont think anyone else has received it. Plus the Knicks have his Bird Rights so they can go over the cap to resign him leaving 2015's virtually empty cap for the likes of whoever Carmelo wants to join him. Meaning Kyrie and his choice (maybe choices) of Love, Aldridge, Hibbert, Wall, Rondo, etc. He basically gets to help Grunwald build the team. No one else can offer Melo that. If he fails at that point thats his own fault.

It's just an extension of what I said before. It is totally inconceivable to the media that the Lakers might be about to go through some lean years. All the major players have already moved and are on teams they WANTED to be on.

I think Desides had a good thought earlier. The play for the Lakers may be to set up to woo Durant when his contract runs up. I think the Thunder are just good enough to be a second best team for years now and aren't going to spend into the luxury tax to acquire more real talent. He may be frustrated when his current contract winds down.

Beyond him, who are you going to get and from where?

If he takes it, I don't really see a downside for Cleveland. They are never ever ever going to get a FA of Bynum's caliber to sign here, so they have to take these chances. With the team option for the 2nd year, it doesn't screw up their cap space next year and if he pans out, they get another year of a top 5 center.

The only real problem would be that it ties up their ability to pull a major trade due to all that salary being wrapped up. But is holding out for Kevin Love or Lamarcus Aldridge really any less of a gamble than hoping Bynum's knees hold out?

Not to mention Kyrie is coming up on his extension soon and they need to give him every reason to stay.

Managing a team in Cleveland vs a lot of other NBA cities is like a completely different sport.

They also figure to line up for a lottery pick as well.

You are right though, the media finds it hard to swallow, it is like the Yankees having a down year.

Though apples to oranges, no hard cap in MLB
