They don't need to amnesty him. His contract expires after this season. The problem is he is Kobe Frigging Bryant. The guy their whole fan base has deified. If you want to sign someone new and Kobe wants to come back as a franchise you cannot toss him aside for the potential of getting someone else. If he wants to resign for the max you pretty much have to resign him for the max.

Ok I will give you an example....

Peyton Manning.....how is Indy doing now? Tough decisions have to be made but a good GM makes them...

If I am a GM and Kobe is done after this year and I have a "chance" to get Lebron effing James....uh yeah bye Kobe....

For the record there is absolutely no way I can see LBJ in a Laker uni (sorry Sam) I can actually picture him in Boston before LA (again not happening, just hypothetical)...

Different sport. Kobe is the Lakers. Plus the other part of the equation is they would have to fail to extend him just on the hope that Lebron or Melo leaves with no guarantees.

I don't have much exposure here in Mexico and this is my first year being really interested in summer league. Who coaches the team? Do we sign a college coach from division I-A and if he's good sign him to a training camp or D-League contract?

But the luxury from the Lakers standpoint is they can wait....If both of those guys opt out after this year, you are a flat out idiot as a GM not to try and sign them, result be damned...

As a GM it is always about the team, never one player, Indy as hard as that was to do, set themselves up for over a decade with Luck....maybe a different sport but the philosphy is the same....I cant even picture Melo in a Laker uni hahahaha...........

I read about it before SAS but that incarnation included Paul who could not be a part of the team for cap reasons. This was something that was rumbling around during the 08 Olympics.

If I'm not mistaken, the Heat are fighting for the right to try and go to the Orlando Summer League championship game tomorrow.

As far as I know, after yesterday's games OKC was on top in points with 20 points and a 4-0 record. They're done, they won't play today. The Houston Rockets were in second with 16 points and a 3-0 record. There was I think a three-way tie at 14 points which included the Miami Heat, but among those teams only the Jazz and Heat still had a game to play (sorry Celtics). The Pacers had 11 points with a game to play.

The Jazz lost today to the Pacers, earning 2 points while the Pacers earned 5 points. That means the Jazz are at 16 points, as are the Pacers and Rockets.

The Heat are currently beating the Pistons 41-31 at halftime. UNFORTUNATELY the Heat lost the 1st quarter. Had they managed to sweep all four quarters against the Pistons, their destiny would have been in their own hands because they'd have 21 points to OKC's 20 points and would be guaranteed a spot in the top two no matter what the Rockets did.

However, they did take the 2nd quarter and lead by 10 points. If they're able to hang onto the lead for the win, they're guaranteed to have at least 18 points even if they don't win another quarter. That would put them permanently ahead of the Jazz and Pacers...but the Rockets would still have a chance to earn at least 3 points against Brooklyn, which would put the Rockets in the finals over the Heat.

I imagine that if the Rockets win yet the Heat still end up in a tie with them or the Thunder, with the Heat being 3-1 and the Rockets and Thunder both 4-0, I think the tiebreak would probably go to the better record.

I don't know what would happen in a tie between the Heat and Rockets, should the Rockets lose today but still earn enough points to tie Miami.

Nor do I know why I care about summer league basketball, except that I really do not like baseball at all and there's absolutely nothing going on with the Miami Dolphins.

Short story short, cheer for the Heat to win the next two quarters, and cheer for the Rockets to lose to Brooklyn.

Ah crap. Heat dropped the third quarter.

They're looking to make this difficult. Not only is the lead down to 8, evidently the tiebreaks are different than I'd thought, it goes by points differential rather than record. So if they'd taken three out of four quarters and won the game by 15 points, they'd have had the tiebreak over the Thunder.

Essentially they now need to hold onto this game and hope the Rockets get smashed by Brooklyn.

Hah. Go figure. Walk into halftime with a 10 point lead, lose the game by 1 point. Ah well. No summer league ringz.

Came down to a final seconds battle...bunch of lead changes in final 2 minutes, Heat went up 1 point with 19 seconds left, Pistons took a jumper with only seconds left, missed but one of their guys threw in the putback to go up 1 point with 1.7 seconds left.

Heat end up with only 15 points. Better than the Celtics. Not better than the Thunder, Rockets, Pacers or Jazz.

The Knicks were for a while. I was actually listening to his radio show during this time because the time slot was different and Id listen to it sometimes during lunch or on the drive in to work on a later shift. The Heat became his frontrunner long before Chris Broussard even knew a trifecta in Miami was a real possibility.

Paul is represented by CAA who is run by Lebron's cronies. He was never going to be a part of that trifecta. It really wasnt possible for cap purposes anyway.

Wade-Bosh-Lebron formed the idea at the 08 Olympics. Carmelo was originally supposed to be the 3rd piece, not Bosh, but when Melo signed his extension before 2008 it no longer became possible. Lebron and the 2 others waited a little longer hence why it was possible.

For what its worth and take this with a massive grain of salt. But some guy called into Sedano's show and said his brother in law is a prominent surgeon, who happens to know the doctor who operated on Bynum.
Apparently Bynum paid his doctor to not medically clear him so that the Sixers would cut him so he could play and get payed) somewhere else.
Supposedly he has been working out in private over the past year.

Again, take this with the whole salt shaker.

Why would the brother in law of a private doctor air the business of a private client. Most states have a statute taht allows doctor/patient confidentiality and that would put his brother in law at risk to get sued by Bynum and his representation. Unless he really hates his brother in law, the guy is an idiot or BS'ing.

Wow. Kirilenko to Brooklyn for only 3.1 mil with a player option for the second year. Is Mikhail paying him under the table or something? Some sort of special Russian deal? He opted out of $10 mil from Minnesota for this.

I didnt think his option was for 10M but yeah, I guess he'd rather win a 5th seed in Brooklyn then miss the playoffs entirely in Minnesota?

    Live from the Internet.
I looked through some Russian Bball forums and it looks like that AK-47 will most likley be done after these 2 years, which is not suprising, really, and come play in Russia.

As for money..it's weird. He is popular in Russia so he has more money from endorsments than people think, but still...$10mil is $10mil man.

I wouldn't be surprised. It really depends on how popular the Nets are in Russia. I have no idea, but my guess is that they're the most popular team. I know the Rockets are extremely popular in China, which is one of the big reasons Jeremy Lin is playing there. If you have millions of Russians waking up at 4am to watch Kirilenko, then that actually may be worth it for him.

Summer league officially over. The Heat would've needed to win three quarters and beat the Pistons yesterday by 15 points in order to get into the finals against the Rockets. They lost the game by 1 point which got them a seeded rematch with the Pistons this morning. They won.

Ian Clark averaged 28.0 points per 48 minutes on 0.484 shooting, including 0.429 on 3 pointers and an impressive 9.6 free throw attempts per 48 with 0.833 free throw shooting. He averaged 4.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 3.8 steals and 0.0 blocks. On the downside he averaged 2.7 fouls, 4.4 turnovers and 1.0 blocked attempts.

The Sharknado averaged 18.2 points per 48 minutes on 0.464 shooting. He averaged 9.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 5.5 blocks. On the downside he averaged 8.6 fouls, 3.2 turnovers and 0.5 blocked attempts. Obviously he took liberal advantage of the fact that you can't foul out in summer leagues.

Section's favorite guy James Ennis averaged 27.7 points per 48 on 0.432 shooting, 0.333 from behind the arc, a very impressive 10.7 free throw attemps per 48 with 0.864 free throw percentage. He averaged 8.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 2.9 steals and 1.0 blocks. On the downside he averaged 3.9 fouls, 4.4 turnovers and 1.0 blocked attempts.

The guy with perhaps the most impressive stat line might be Dunigan. He averaged 25.1 pts/48 on 0.520 shooting with an impressive 12.2 free throw attempts, although he only made 0.684 on those free throws. He averaged 10.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 0.6 steals and 3.9 blocks. On the down side, a very liberal 9.7 fouls per 48, 3.2 turnovers and 0.6 blocked attempts. Even so, he's a big center that showed unusual offensive capabilities, I just had a lot of nits with him on defense.

D.J. Stephens and Eric Griffin had a little battle of the athletic forwards going on. Stephens averaged 23.7 points per 48 to Griffin's 20.3, but Griffin shot 0.700 to Stephens' 0.550 and didn't waste any shots by shooting from behind the arc where Stephens averaged a paltry 0.143 on 6.6 attempts per 48. Griffin also had better free throw shooting (0.667 to 0.400), averaged 11.1 rebounds to Stephens' 10.4 rebounds, only 5.2 fouls to Stephens' 5.7 fouls, 5.2 blocks to Stephens' 4.7 blocks, and 3.3 steals compared with Stephens' 0.9 steals. On the other hand, Griffin averaged a high 3.9 turnovers per 48 whereas Stephens' turnovers were minimal at 0.9.

The only difference between Stephens in the summer league and Stephens in college is that a few of his 3's didn't fall and neither did his free throws in one of his games. He was a 40% three point shooter in college and I think between a 65 and 70% free throw shooter, but only went 1 of 7 on 3 pointers in the summer league series, with 2 of 5 on free throws. Without the three attempts he was 10 of 13 for 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks with only 1 turnover...in 51 minutes. That's pretty much what he is.
