Multiple games doesn't mean a 10-15 game suspension. He laid a forearm shiver to the back of Olynik's head. Nowhere near a basketball play. Would not shock me in the least if he got 2-3 games. The leaders of that locker room have to be pretty pissed at him.
Alonzo Mourning threw punches in a playoff game. PJ Brown flipped Charlie Ward over and slammed him on the ground, also a playoff game. That's the Heat culture. Tough, hard nosed. Obviously you don't want stupidity and those other guys learned to channel that stuff better. Whiteside will be given the same opportunity
Wade's got this. Hassan needs to learn how to deliver a cheap shot. That was amateur hour. Just freak out and blast the guy with a forearm? Do better. At least a message was sent. Now, it will only work if he returns UNDER CONTROL. They missed Dragic badly...they were back to their #30 in PACE crap again...this time without any half court defense.
Apparently, this is what Wade told reporters when asked about Whiteside tonight. Asked if he was disappointed in Whiteside, answered "very"
I hope you're right, but I think this is merely wishful thinking. Whiteside cannot be relied upon. He's a headcase.
Bosh and McBob would have made such a huge impact on Whiteside. Hope everyone gets healthy for next year, Wade can only beast so long..
The over reaction to Whiteside last night is ridiculous. If Twitter was around during the Zo days, he would've been run out of town. Obviously he shouldn't have done it but acting like the guy is Ron Artest during the Malice at the Palace is silly. They'll get it straightened out. He proved his point that he will retaliate when pushed. Now, as long as it's not out of control most guys will back off because most guys don't want to fight or get cheap shotted by a maybe crazy person. Blake Griffin, a superstar, gets continually *****ed and punked because he refuses to stand up for himself. Whiteside didn't let that happen, which is good. As long as he now controls it, he'll start to get a lot more calls.
It's obvious not an overreaction when your franchise player is agreeing with all of us, even saying that he is unreliable. That is criticism that will hurt Whiteside's ego a bit, when your own teammate and leader like Wade doesn't think you're reliable, you better check yourself.
Right. The legitimate criticism should come from his teammates or coaches. And I don't think they're over reacting like the media and some fans are. When Joe Goodman goes on Twitter suggesting the Heat could release Whiteside, like he never watched a Pat Riley coached team in the 90's, or that he didn't watch UD try to kill Tyler Hansbrough (which everyone applauded by the way and was seen as the ultimate warrior move) I find that ridiculous. When Zaslow goes on the radio and says what happened last night is one of the biggest disgraces he's ever seen, like he didn't spend his entire childhood watching Zo, PJ Brown, Mason, Brian Grant, etc., or that he's never heard of Dennis Rodman, Bill Laimbeer, Ron Artest or Rasheed Wallace, I find that ridiculous. Yes, it was stupid. It happens. Hopefully he learns from it. He is not the reason we lost the game yesterday, nor will any suspension be the reason we don't make the playoffs. We were completely lifeless and irrelevant until he showed up. He saved the season. Made it matter for a few weeks. His play keeping us in the race is the reason we traded for Dragic. The guy is an immense talent. He doesn't seem like a bad guy. He has no off the court problems that we're privy to. He gets overly emotional during the games. Lots of guys do. That can be channeled into something positive. I support the guy, and so should the team. Help him be better. If he is still having these issues this time next year, then maybe re-evaluate. But for Ira Winderman to come out and say that he and the team are at a "crossroads" after a rough week, is immensely shortsighted and stupid.
In fact, I suspect that when the media availability happens this afternoon, Hassan will be contrite, etc., and that the overwhelming message from the team will be that they support him, etc. Release a guy because of a flagrant foul, GTFOH. LeBron got a flagrant offensive foul in the playoffs that was reviewed for a flagrant 2.
Michael Wallace with the truth today: whiteside the best thing to happen to the Heat this season and he is a zero risk money wise for next season. Heat will help him and evaluate over the course of the next year. No over reacting right now
I love how Brian Windhorst still thinks he has sources in Miami. GTFO.' ESPN should treat SportsCenter like a radio show and accept phone calls from fans, I'd call during the show and let Brian Windhorst know what an irrelevant creep he is and how he knows nothing about anything. I'm sick of ESPN treating this guy like he's an NBA expert. You have no sources in Miami and do not know what Riley, Spoelstra or Arison thinks of Whiteside. GTFO. ESPN must not have an intelligent thought in any brain that works there. When is their program director going to get fired? I can fix that network up in seconds.
He said that the Heat trotted out Bosh as a message to Dragic that "Bosh is comign back to start the season...don;t leabve Giran!'. Which is BS, because if he had read the Bleacher report piece on Goran, he said so himself that he REGULARLY texts with Bosh and is now committed to ONLY negotiating with the Heat at seasons end. As if we needed to do a Dog and Pony show with Chris Bosh. That thing was genuine and Windy being the douchebag that he is, turned into another cynical hate fest on Riley.
I will say what is necessary. This ABOVE ALL ELSE is a NBPA and Officiating issue. They allowed for a separate set of rules just because a guy is big and athletic. If they officiate Whiteside legitimately, nothing would have happened.
Heh, an oxymoron I guess. Its a silver lining if we miss the playoffs and keep our pick, but there isn't a player we would be able to get that would be worth wade missing the postseason, IMO.
We need to get to the playoffs and pay our debt already to Philadelphia.. all these picks tied to Philadelphia, Cleveland, Boston and Phoenix... it's damn annoying lol
Talking about how Whiteside should be cut and talking about how what he did is one of the most disgraceful things you've ever seen...is pretty much the definition of overreacting. Dude was pissed off at the officiating and took a cheap shot. It happens. It's not a good look. The Heat could've used him out there and he couldn't be there for them.
I thought it would have been 2-3 games. Good... Hope Goran is back for the Nets... Beasley vs Brook Lopez this Wednesday... yikes............. Lopez might score 101 on Wednesday
1 game. That's fair. Now it's over. Learn from it and move on. The piling on by the media should stop as well.
I couldn't care less. Bill Simmons is completely irrelevant. Can't believe we worried so much about what he would say about LeBron. Was a waste of time
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...de-who-was-suspended-for-wednesdays-game.html Great read. Short synopsis, Whiteside understands he made a mistake and will correct whatever issues he has going forward. No one is mad at him. There is no consideration of a release and there is no "crossroads". He will take the suspension and then play. Zaslow, Joe Goodman and Ira need to pipe down.
This isn't anything new. Shaq would still be shooting free throws if they called everytime he was hit. When you bang inside and play against smaller players most nights you aren't getting calls all night. This is the way the league has been since Ive been watching it. There are reasons why Whiteside has all the talent he has and was available this year, there is also a reason that the leaders on the Heat blasted him and the organization did too. He was way over the line, it was a thug move and a bad one at that. Dude can bank a max contract if he reigns it in we'll see how he does.
