Yea it sucks. But I'd wish we would release him. It pisses me off every time I read his name that I screamed for buster posey and we took a high school SS instead.

Yea that and the 2009 draft was awful. Terrible first rounder and we didn't even sign him. I don't think we signed our 2nd rounder that year either.

Yeah the past few offseasons have been weird. Ever since Kevin Towers took over really. I really like the trade for the White Sox.

Yeah I agree. Seems like it will be a waste of $2 million, sounds exactly like the Travis Hafner deal last year.

I'm surprised a team like Houston wouldn't give him a ST invite or something like that. But I guess that's what happens when the last time he was healthy it was 2009. Hopefully he stays healthy and does well, then I'm sure he'll get a deal next year or even in the middle of the season.

Really interesting that Choo took less money to go to Rangers. I don't know what to make of it to be honest.

Although this is closer to his actual value. Still to much.

So I guess after Cano bolted, the Yanks immediately offered 7/140 to Choo and they (him and Boras) agreed. Then when the sides were meeting up to take the physical and want not, Boras asked for 1M more per season, making it the Ellsbury contract. It pissed off their FO, they pulled the offer and told Boras to screw. Then they went and signed Beltran.

It was one of the rare times Boras helped the Yanks even though he didnt try to...

Yeah I saw that Tweet retweeted that day, it still doesn't mean it's true/accurate. Maybe it's just me but I have a really hard time believing that both Boras and the Yankees would spend the time to work on a 7 year deal and then the Yankees completely shutting down talks and walking away due to 3 million dollars and running to sign someone else that quickly.

I dont think it is out of the realm of possibility though......

Has Boras done it before? Does it lead to asking to a no trade clause after that? I mean where does it stop. I think there comes a point when you do the deal you originally made....

As well they always had Beltran in waiting, whom is probably a better all around hitter, for less years and money. They weren't behold to just Choo, so yeah I could see how that move pisses off people, especially seeing how they overpaid for one of hos other clients a month earlier....

But to close up talks for 3 million dollars? It makes no sense to me. Yeah I get that if it did happen it would have been a dick move by Boras, but again I just can't see how the Yankees would stop the deal and turn around and sign Beltran in a few hours.

I feel like there might be some truth to it but we don't know the whole story because to me anyway it just doesn't add up.

Not sure it is was hours or a day or 2. I think the thing here that makes this work is Beltran, in CB they had a guy who was just waiting for the Yankees word because he wanted to play there. He was liked in NY as a Met, and by the City in general, as well they could have him for less years, and money. I mean I get the point over why let him walk for 3M but also why ask for 3M more on a 140M contract? All it was, was so Boras could pat his own back and say he got the Crawford contract, and Boras probably did think the Yanks wouldnt say no because again it is 3M. However Yankees literally got nothing out of it, and will continue to get nothing out of Boras, why you think Boras is giving them or any team a break the next time? Go pound sand at that point, go explain to your client how you lost 13M asking for 3M more....

There well could be truth because 7/140 (Yanks)>7/130 (Rangers) right?

Fink how reliable is this guy? I know he sucked as a pitcher hahahaha

Well isn't the story once the Yankees knew Cano was going to Seattle, they went to Choo? If that part is correct then it was reported Cano agreed to a deal the same day the Yankees agreed with Beltran, Cano was first reported in the morning and Beltran was late night like 9 or 10 hours later or so.

And yeah who knows if Nitkowski has a credible source or not. None of the Yankee beat reporters reported it nor any national baseball writer.

As far as the Yankee contract vs. Ranger contract you need to factor in state income tax, the NY state income tax is higher than Texas, so the Yankees deal would be a smaller payday. And yes players/agents do factor that stuff in.

Finally, after weeks of will they/won't they, Rakuten Golden Eagles president Yozo Tachibana announced late last night that Masahiro Tanaka will be allowed to make the jump to MLB, giving clubs the best Christmas gift they could have hoped for. Now, the question is, where will Tanaka land?

The latest on the Japanese sensation:

    • The Yankees, Cubs, Diamondbacks, and Dodgers are among the clubs expected to make strong plays for Tanaka.
    • According to NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, Rakuten team president Yozo Tachibana acknowledged his reservations about the new posting system but said the team did not want to hold back a star player from a challenge he wishes to embrace, writes Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The new posting system, of course, means that the Golden Eagles can't take in more than the maximum $20MM posting fee. The 25-year-old is coming off a year in which he went 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA in the Japanese Pacific League.
    • The starting pitching market has been largely held up due to clubs waiting on a resolution to the Tanaka situation and we should see some serious movement once he signs with an MLB club, writes Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.
    • "I'm grateful to the team for allowing me to try. Now I've made a first step," Tanaka said, according to the Associated Press. "I hope I would receive offers from as many teams as possible so I have a wider option."

Not sure the Cubs and D'bags(cks?) have the allure, i think this is a 3 team race between,
Seattle (if the still have the funds) - good pipeline of Japanese athletes to follow and Japanese ownership. Negatives - they aren't going to win now, Jack Z is a schmuck and it's not a city his wife (an aspiring model/actress) can get her big break in.
Yankees - Matsui, Kuroda and Ichiro might help recruit. Depends on how much money Hal wants to part with. Negative - Biggest stage, lots of pressure, might not want to be there.

Dodgers - Might win this race. They are win now, great staff, nice lineup, and his agent is Kershaw's. HOLLYWOOD

I think Texas is tapped out.

    What's your take?

Like 99.9% of free agents whatever teams offers him the biggest contract he'll sign there.

But if you're asking to predict the team that signs him I will go with the Dodgers as it's clear they don't care about money.

Fellow Mets fans, Andy Martino has a good article about the Ike Davis situation. I completely agree with him. Keep him and hope he turns back into the player we thought he'd be. Would turn out to be a huge positive for us if he turns it around.

I mean the guy is still realively young at 27 heading into the season but there are a lot of red flags with his swing. If I'm the Mets if I can't get anything decent in return for him I'd probably bring him back with hopes he can rebound but I don't know if he'll every hit enough to be an everyday 1B, especially with his splits.
