Just like the last 2 off-seasons, I will be saving this comment to throw back at you at the end of the season. Year 1- Dantoni is a horrible coach. Same year he win COY. Year 2- Rockets are 4th or 5th best team in the West. Oh, really??? Year 3- Melo sucked with Westbrick, therefore, he will suck on Rockets. To be continued...
No one thought that Year 2 thing at all. We knew Paul would help. Dantoni IS a terrible coach. Winning COY didn't change that. I hope you add Melo honestly. It would be hilarious to watch Paul eat him alive for his lack of a work ethic. The pouting would be legendary.
Ryan Anderson was a mistake. He started on a 55 win team and came off the bench on a 65 win team. Our mistakes are better than your successes, lol. Ouch.
Really? I already came on here and posted who said those things. It was funny to me. Scroll back. The comments are there.
Good luck with that. Paul is probably more prone to injury than Curry, but you could get lucky. As long as Melo doesn't drag the defense down.
His contract prevented yall from being in contention for LeBron and other Free Agents. He didn't play in the playoffs cause he sucked. I guess you could say he "came off the bench on a 65 win team", but its disingenuous to infer he added anything to the success of the team. They won in spite of him. Cause he sucks. And you know it.
Really? I can't see why anyone wouldn't be. And it's not just Heat fans. You hear fans and media around the country praising him. He's legitimately one of the best wing defenders in the league, can score off the bounce, and shoot threes. He's a good 3rd option on a contender. He and Ellington are very different players. Ellington is a 3pt specialist, and that's about it. Richardson is a complete player.
The Heat signed Duncan Robinson to a two-way contract. I like it. He's looked great in summer league, and is the type of player Miami looks for. Summer League success doesn't always predict much, but one thing that translates is shooting, and he's been lethal (17 of 28) of from 3. It sounds like they'll probably hold on to their other 2-way slot to see if there's an opportunity like they had last year with Derrick Jones Jr.
No, Melo would be the expiring. I doubt they'd trade him for another expiring contract, when the money has to be similar. The Rockets don't have an expiring either. That is suggesting that if he's traded to another team, that the other team would still waive him, and he'd end up in Houston or Miami. Also, this could be a factor. Is Melo ok coming off the bench?
Rockets sources have confirmed that Dantoni did try to sell Melo on running the 2nd unit with Chris Paul. As I said earlier, Melo's minutes should match Paul's minutes. Paul only starts for the first 5 minutes of the 1st and 3rd quarters and last 4 minutes of 4th quarter....the rest of the game he is running the 2nd unit. Melo will have to do the same. Harden and Capela essentially run the 1st unit. Paul and Melo run the 2nd unit. Will he agree? If not, good luck in Miami. We shall see.
He'd be a solid bench addition. He's carved out a nice role for himself after leaving Miami. Another player Miami gave up on, that turned out to be a decent bench player last year is Shabazz Napier. And I think he's still unsigned as well this offseason.
Melo wouldn’t come off the bench in Miami, which is why I think we have a better chance then people think. If Melo signs in Miami he’ll be the main guy.
I don't think the guy is exactly Heat culture. He would lose 50 pounds with all the running he would have to do.
He'd have to buy in. If he's not interested in that, Miami wouldn't/shouldn't even bother. But I'd imagine their sell is "do what we ask, and you will be an all-star and a leading man again in a weakened East, and extend your career at the same time." Honestly, if he really does buy in, he would make the Heat better. If they could make some other moves (and I'm not sure you add Melo to the logjam they currently have if that wasn't the plan), they could be a dark horse contender in the East.
They are very good obviously but have a knack for opposing teams stars being hurt. They needed enough luck for Kyrie and Love to miss the finals in their first title, and lucky enough to have Chris Paul out games 6 -7. They are the Pats
No way we leave $30 million on our bench in TJ and Waiters. If either of those guys gets moved for Melo, he still has DJJ needing minutes. I think part of the reason for this trade will be to get a young guy more minutes; whether that be Whiteside for Bam or a SG for DJJ.
Why would we want that? He would be taking minutes from somebody that needs them, whether that be Bam or Winslow or any other young player. I think he can make us better but not by much, and that’s not worth it to me. Houston needs him more than us...please, take him.
Kevin durant is back to picking fights with teenagers on twitter... this guy dont have girls to bang? Whats with him lol
It was. But you could argue that the Rockets and Cavs knew about the injury history of Paul and Kyrie when both were acquired, so that was somewhat self-inflicted as well.
What we would want, and what he would want are two different things. I'll say this, though. Spo supposedly really wants him, which would be good enough for me. If they make this move, I would hope that would predicate a series of other moves, because there is already a serious logjam, that would get worse with Melo here. If they did get Melo, at least it would be fun to see what happens. My worst fear is that they just run it back with the same team next year, get knocked out once again in the first round, and we're in a similar spot next offseason with the same team and still no cap flexibility. With Melo, we don't know what we're going to get, and what that would motivate this front office to do.
Melo stinks. But, we already have $30 million invested in SG and we are going to need to know how good Derrick Jones Jr., is so a contract decision can be made.
Of course Spo wants him. He wants to win as many games as possible because the coach is always the one that gets screwed when tanking. They want to follow the heat blue print...be competitive, clear cap space and go after the big FAs. Which is ideal if we can pull it off. Plus the last time we tanked a season we came out of it with freaking Michael Beasley. No guarantee in nailing your draft pick. Dallas is an example of a team with a good coach tanking right. They scored Dennis Smith Jr and Luca Doncic after a short tank. Now they’re going after FAs.
