He would be a Melo situation part 2 only without the cap space to add an amare stoudemire. Basically it would rip, figure 4-5 (at least) good assets out of our hands and screw the rebuild. Fwiw, i do think Westbrook is a winner but i do not think he will age well. When the athleticism goes, so goes he because hes not a perimeter threat at under 30% from 3. He will be an effective piece for as long as he has the quick twitch athleticism thats made him effective the last decade.

At this point, just embrace the rebuild and rebuild the culture in spite of the dummy who owns the team

You don’t have to worry about that. Russ is the most beloved OKC player of all time. Presti wants to do right by him, and sending him to the knicks is the absolute opposite of doing right by him.

Good, he wouldn’t do anything in NY but make them a .500 team, and that’s not worth 40m a year let alone ANY compensation.

Biggest issue with all the new generation guards, and this is probably true about almost every star guard in the NBA since after Wade was drafted... none of them have a back to the basket game... theey all rely on athleticism or ridiculous shooting...

That was the blessing of Wade having Shaq on his side, he was able to learn from one of the best ever at the post..

Westbrook is always attacking the basket and his knee or ankle will pay for it if he doesnt adjust soon.. ive said it many times before Rose needs to develop other skills he will end up hurt playing the way he does, and then he did..

Okc acquires another 1st rounder. Jerami Grant for Denvers 1st. Grant is absorbed in to the trade exception Denver had, it saves OKC 39m in luxury tax payments

Interesting data for our Summer League players....

This is Per 36 minutes data. The final column is the +/- on a Per 36 minutes basis.

    upload_2019-7-9_13-15-42.png

Chris Silva really stands out, adding 17 Points, 11 Rebounds (including 3 Offensive Rebounds), 3 Assists, 1 Steals, and 2 Blocks per 36 minutes, while also being +30. Silva gets to the line for 6.5 free throws per 36 minutes, where he's making 86% of his free throws, and he's shooting 67% from two. He's been one of the starting five with the other four standouts Kendrick Nunn, Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, and Yante Maten. That lineup has been outstanding.

Kendrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson, Yante Maten, and Tyler Herro have been outstanding. They all stand out in their own way.

Kendrick Nunn averages 26 Points, 5 Rebounds, 5.5 Assists, and 2 Steals per 36 minutes, with 40% three point shooting, and 52% on twos. He gets to the charity stripe for 5.5 freebies per 36 minutes.

Duncan Robinson averages 21 Points, 8 Rebounds, and 5 Assists per 36 minutes. He's shooting 36% from three, and an outstanding 83% from two.

Tyler Herro averages 25 Points, 5.5 Rebounds, 5 Assists, and 2 Steals per 36 minutes. He's only shooting 32% from three, and 45% from two, though. His Usage is pretty high, and that's why he gets the points he does. But he's been doing a good job getting to the line at 5 free throw attempts per 36 minutes, and he's only got 4 personal fouls in 111 minutes.

Yante Maten's Usage does not seem as high as those three, and yet he still gets 18.5 Points, 9 Rebounds (including 3 Offensive Rebounds), 1 Assist, 1.5 Steals, and 1.5 Blocks per 36 minutes. His three point shot has not fallen as he's only 1 of 7 there, but the key to his contribution thus far is he's shooting nearly 9 free throws per 36 minutes.

Nick Mayo's 57% three point shooting (4 of 7) also stands out. He's been a good pure point scorer thus far. He doesn't have a very good feel for the movements in the offense right now. You can see him being a beat slow in his off-ball movements, and you can definitely see lots of hesitation when he gets the ball in his hands. He also doesn't have a natural feel for getting rebounds, despite his size. However, the size clearly does count for something in that regard as he's getting about 7 Rebounds per 36 minutes and in particular gets about 3 Offensive Rebounds per 36 minutes. His defense needs work but he's clearly done some work in the Steals department.

I'm actually a bit shocked how much Nick Weiler-Babb has dropped off the map in Las Vegas Summer League from a pure Usage standpoint. He looks compelling when he is getting Usage. He drives to the rim and finishes really well, and he's got a nice, balanced form when he pulls up for jumpers. He's also shooting 42% from three. But his numbers here look abysmal because the Usage is so low, particularly in his last two games in Vegas.

Kyle Alexander is absolutely your prototypical monster-framed defensive center. He's got long arms, averages 3 blocks per 36 minutes, 12.5 rebounds including a pretty outstanding 5.5 offensive boards. He just doesn't have a ton of feel for scoring.

Facts is facts. 1 star isn’t what we need, especially trading for one star that would cost a ton of assets. If you told me we were signing say Kawhi a month ago but the only way he was coming was if we got Westbrook, I’d be ok with it. But that’s not the scenario. And if we are being honest OkC was a better team last year then NYK as presently constructed so the ceiling would be pretty low for NYK to just have Westbrook and nothing else.

Let Barrett, Mitch Robinson, Knox, Smith Jr, Ntilikina, etc develop and continue drafting well. Then we can talk about someone maybe in 2021.

He's not shooting catch and shoot open threes like JJ Redick does. He's running the offense, and the bulk of his threes are in transition, or off the dribble, often with a guy in front of him. I watch his three point shooting in the summer league, and am incredibly encouraged by it. His percentage doesn't really worry me at all.

And hes 19, adjusting to the nba 3 as opposed to college.

I just had the same debate with a friend regarding RJ Barrett who is 7/33 thru the 1st 2 summer league games. This is what summer league is for...identifying areas that need improvement and to give a chance to work on it vs live competition. Getting used to the NBA 3 and NBA competition even if its just vs other draft picks. Last year at this time Knox was all the rage. He had a good. Not great rookie year while Mitchell Robinson stole the headlines. Now Iggy Brazdeikis is stealing the headlines as a 2nd round pick but i still cant bring myself to worry about RJ in part because i know shooting is usually the last part of a players game to develop at the nba level

Wow. The Heat have really decided to take the day off, defensively.

They're playing the worst defense I've seen them play in these SL games.

Herro really willing us into this one.

Yeah, it’s easy to take more than you should from the Summer League, IMO. They’re playing against better competition than they did in college, but ultimately it’s a coaching tool for the top players, not a showcase, and every year guys perform great only to disappear when their actual NBA careers start. I remember when Rose and Beasley came out and Beasley was killing the summer league and Rose was struggling, and everyone was saying the Bulls blew it. I think there are some things you can take from it, but for the most part, it’s grain of salt stuff for me.

    I get it.

So when it's a bad thing like your three point specialist shooting 14 for 44 from three against mostly G-League competition, well that's just a Summer League thing.

But when it's a good thing, like the same guy averaging 6 rebounds and 5 assists per 36 minutes, shooting well from mid-range, it's, oh wow our 1st round pick is dominating all these other big names, why the hell would we give him up for an 8-time All Star?

For me? No. I look at little things like showing more ability to handle and pass than I thought, and being able to hit pull up threes with a guy in your face as a positive, but not anything to get too excited about. I don't get too up or down about anything that happens in summer league, though, because year in and year out it proves to be fool's gold. It's like the NFL preseason (although maybe more extreme). Sometimes good/bad play translates, and sometimes it doesn't mean anything. Because of that, I'm not going to buy into any of it too much.

Sure, Lonnie Walker (1st round pick by SA last yr) has been the most impressive in summer league by averaging 30 ppg in 33 minutes per game (ranked #1 in Vegas SL). That's great.

So, where does Chris Clemons (undrafted this yr by Hou) rank? He's averaging 24 ppg in 25 minutes per game (ranked #2 in Vegas SL).

How did the #3 all time career scorer in D1 college go undrafted? Clemons averaged 30 ppg in college last yr, and he is not slowing down. I'm not fully on the bandwagon yet, but I'm getting close.

Apparently Marcus Morris is renegging on his deal with the spurs for 2/20 and will be signing with the knicks. The knicks are reworking a contract with Reggie Bullock for some reason who never signed his 2yr/21m deal. Its apparently been discovered Bullock had an issue, possibly health related.

At first glance, I want to laugh at this and make some kind of comment like "how many slightly above average 4s are they going to collect?", but honestly, they'll probably be able to trade these guys for assets at some point because they're all on short deals. It's kind of funny that the Heat are one of the teams best positioned to trade for Wes strictly financially because of their abundance of these kinds of contracts currently.

Well Portis sucks defensively so he wont play much for Fiz and his offense is pretty much dependent on put backs and dunks. So thats just a colassal waste imo. Randle at least can play offense and Gibson is the enforcer we frankly have needed. Morris is more of a tweener but at least he can score. Hes better then crappy Portis

I liked Lonnie last year, too. He reminded me of some of the guys I liked for the Heat this year. Inconsistent college career, but got better as the year went on, and has all the tools you want. I think he went to the right team as well. The Spurs will develop him.

RJ with his strongest summer league game 17 points (on 6/14 shooting) 6 assist, 10 boards. Mitchell Robinson with a double double. Nice to see a few of our young guys pay well even in a loss.

Yeah, Lonnie looks like he's ready. I don't know where the Spurs will fit him in because they already have Dejounte, White, and Mills at the point.

The Rockets stole Clemons this year as an undrafted player. He had another strong game last night. The kid is taking almost 10 threes per game and is making 52% of them. Im very close to jumping on the bandwagon for him to skip GLeague & just sign on with the Rockets. He's a walking bucket, lol.

I am pretty disgusted that our big fella, Hartenstein, got injured last night. He was averaging 21 ppg and 10 rbs in summer league before he got hurt last night. The kid averaged 24 ppg and 14 rpg in the GLeague playoffs, and won finals mvp. He is the the perfect backup to Capela. Hope this injury isn't serious.

Now the next step for Herro is to go to Spoelstra’s 3 point shooting class... spo knows how to get his guys to splash 3s.
