Each poster in this thread can participate in a friendly tournament that me and giovafin have made. The friendly tournament will be your talented guessing skills of the two teams that will be advancing in each group. You may change your choices anywhere between now and the minute before the first game. There will be more guessing involved once the Group Stages are done. The person who has the most correct choices at the END of the Eurocup will win the following:
Winners Prize:
The following in bold are my two choices for each group to advance. You may use the same format if you wish:

Ok guys here we go.
A- Portugal
Switzerland
B- Croatia
Germany
C- Italy
Netherlands
D- Spain
Sweden
I think we got pretty much the same Teams.
I got Switzerland because I really like how they did develop lately, especially in the defense.
Croatia always got good talent and this time will not be different, actually this year Croatia really got a very good team.
Netherland I feel that are back, very slow at midfield, at time they like to elaborate to much, but I like them.
Sweden will be a force, very strong and fast team maybe a little old, but good.

Since we don't have the credits feature anymore and that would be our only prize for the winner. How does this prize sound? Its not great or anything but its a way to appreciate the winner of the contest, the winner receives a "Thanks" from each member who participated. All you have to do is thank their post where they predicted their standings. If you have already thanked a member for posting their predicted results, than there will be no worries. Another thing, the discussion of each games will be posted here. Hopefully if everyone has time, we can have nice commentary while games are being played and watched..
Now lets all pray that the next two weeks go by fast.

I've obviously got a couple of under dogs picked because there's always 1 or 2 teams that advance that no one expected. My first under dog was Poland (my family blood, 3 generations removed from the homeland) and I just see France falling on their face for some reason. I'm really reaching by not picking Spain, but I think Sweden's due for some luck. CR will probably make me regret not picking them.
I guess I took more chances then I thought once I analyzed the picks. -

First comment is: Are the Croats really that good?? Haven't watched a game in quite some time, and since I only go on what I see (since the names and such are a little difficult for me to follow;) ), I don't really see what all the fuss is about.:dunno: If someone can enlighten me, I might just change my prediction. :wink2:
Secondly, even though the French are old, that's the very reason I see them pulling out of the first rd. They could fall in the second series, but I don't see them falling flat right out of the gate.
Thirdly, does anyone know what channel *if any* they are going to be broadcasting the games here in the States?? (alen, I'm looking at you:lol: ) B/c like I said, I don't comment on games/teams/players unless I see or have seen them play (recently). Since I didn't grow up w/ the game like most of you, and b/c there's no one around that I've found who's really interested in World Soccer, that doesn't happen too often. Maybe they'll have the games on demand from my cable co. That would be nice.
Either way, I'm in. Thanks for keeping me posted.:thumbup:giovafin likes this. -

I have added the great banner gio made for the winner, thanks gio. I also changed one thing. The winner will be determined at the end of the tournament. Who ever has the most correct choices at the end of the eurocup will win the banner. If someone has the same amount of choices, they will both win it.

Alen, thanks for the invite here.
Those are my picks.
Im not going with Croatia because I feel they will not be able to compensate for their Brazilian errrrr, I mean Croation striker's absence. DaSilva or Silva something. He has a broken leg, and will be out for the tourny. In qualifying, this guy scored I believe 12 goals for them. Thats a huge moral killer, and there will be big shoes to fill at the striker position. I also feel as if Poland steps up this year. They are always the first team to qualify (as of late), but fail to produce in the tourny (ala Spain). Anyways, Poland can't play against South American and African teams, they just dont have the experience. They can however weather the storm of European teams if they play well. They are my darkhorse to come out of that group.
In regards to Inzaghi, Im heartbroken. Hes been on fire as of late, and the guy can just score. Hes clutch. You need a goal? Bring in Pippo in the 60th-70th min when the defense is tired, and he'll stretch that off side line like crazy! Granted hes old, but so is Del Piero. Id personally rather have Inzaghi coming off the bench than Del Perio. Especially considering the fact that Inzaghi is a pure striker, while Borriello, Quagliarella (this guy has a cannon by the way) , Di Natale, and others play slightly behind what Inzaghi would do. That causes me to question Del Piero's true value to this squad. Anyways, ultimately I feel the Italian squad is stacked. Just pissed that my fav player of all time didn't get called up in light of his recent perfomances. Whatever...Last edited: May 26, 2008
