Personal attacks are not allowed. I've already cleaned up this thread. Focus on the post and not the poster.
I knew it might be a touchy thread and should have asked in the begining but yes, lets keep it clean people!!
If Cowher is his guy he will bring pittsburghers in to help him out. Damn this sucks so hard, 10, 10, 14, how are you supposed to win like that?
Someone in the S. Florida media needs to step up and ask it to Tony Sparano...while he's still here. If he brings Kevin Colbert (I think that's the guys name) I'm all for it...otherwise I'm not sure I want Bill Cowher.
Amen and what you just posted is one of a ton of examples all year of their conservative nature and refusal to stick with things that are working until the other team stops it. This staff created an ultra conservative mindset throughout the entire roster of players on the team and IMO a total confusion to players about what is expected from them. I've been harping on the OC from the beginning and witholding judgement on the rest of the coaching staff all year. I see the same exact issues week to week though with no improvement. I'm now convinced the mindset, lack of preparation, unwillingness to adapt, etc. all flow right to the top and land at Tony S.
Theres lots of good position coaches and coordinators but it takes something entirely different to be a head coach. Sparano is a great OLine coach one of the best just like Nolan is one of the best defensive coordinators out there and Cameron is one of the best offensive coordinators but these guys are not head coaches and never will be. Sparano needs to go, wish we could keep him around to concentrate strictly on our oline just as I wish we could have kept Cameron around to be our O coordinator and just as I wish we could keep Nolan here to be our D coordinator but in the end we need a HC that can get these guys to play some ball and we are still searching for that. Cowher can do it so if that rumor is true that we are on his list Ross needs to open up his checkbook and jump on that bus right this very second as a good HC is really hard to find and we have one practically falling in our laps at this point. Best of luck to Sparano and Nolan if they have to go but in the bigger picture getting Cowher here will do far more for this team.
Well, when the current guys came in, the dumped Dom Capers even with a huge contract, new HC's typically want their own guys in the key slots, nothing personal it is just how things work in the NFL. I really hope sparano survives, but like a friend who owes you money, if you lose touch with them, you still wish them well, but you'd like to be paid back...
I wanted to see Tony S succeed. I really did. He is a really nice guy and all but he doesn't have any balls it seems. I still see problems that haven't been resolved since his first season. Clock management and closing out games are 2 of them that stand out.
I know he had never been an NFL Head Coach so I wanted to see him learn and how he learned. Well here we are 3 years later and his teams still come out flat way too often and especially at home. They still waste timeouts like they have 5 each half. His clock management is horrible. Beyond that even. The crew upstairs that is supposed to cover him and tell him when he needs to challenge things totally sucks. His offensive line is regressing bad. Now that could be Ireland as well but my guess is that Sparano gets a huge say with lineman... I have tons more if ya sitting on the fence
This and whats wierd is he went for things so much in his first season. I guess the pressure is tons on him
Perhaps this will be the end of the "Iron Curtain" instilled by Parcells in terms of information we can glean rather than New Jersey coach-speak. 'Kay.
Yes, The only reason I need to have is that Henning is still calling the plays. I would love Cowher to come in but if he does it is very likely that we will lose Nolan.
The current regime came in 3 deep to begin with. Cowler will most likely work alone so having an outstanding Defense in tact is something he might want to keep, including not having to search for a DC. One less thing to worry about
Nah, recall that Lb's coach they tried to hire before Nolan? He would be the guy if Sparano is canned.
If we can bring in a guy like Bill Cowher--I'm all for it. However, I just don't see why Tony Sparano should be fired. Did we have any of these management issues his first year? How about when Chad Pennington was in the game? You can't blame Tony Sparano for not lineup in the team and running a darn play. You can't blame him for the BS timeouts. You can't blame him for Chad Henne throwing the ball 3 yards when there is no timeouts. This team has a QB problem. It also has an OC problem. It doesn't have a HC problem. However, Bill Cowher is amazing. My only fear is whether he still has that passion he had in Pittsburgh. There is a real chance he'd be Jimmy Johnson x2.
Only? Considering he coached the Steelers from the early 90s until 2006 I'd say that's a pretty strong winning percentage. Do you realize that's an average of 10 to 11 wins a season?
No Sparano's use of "No question about that" is what drove me nutz. Every answer is always started with that phase. Just listen to his Pressers.....
I've never seen another NFL coach give their opponents timeouts so that they would have time to decide whether to challenge a play they need overturned. Remember when he called a timeout and gave New Orleans a chance to score a TD at the end of the first half?
He's defended Dan Henning all year and sees no issues with his game plans, play calls or his refusal to make in game adjustments. To each his own.
The New Orleans timeout wasn't a good one. I'll tell you that right now. How is the TO used today, Tony Sparano's fault? It was clearly either Chad Henne or Dan Henning's fault. Either Henning didn't get the play in or Chad Henne was all over the damn place, which he's been the entire time he's been our QB. It had absolutely nothing to do with Tony Sparano.
Regardless of that call, Sparano's blown plenty of other timeouts/challenges. See the Browns game. It's time for something to change...and it's not just the players.
Chad Henne is terrible. Dan Henning isn't much better. They both need to be replaced. However, if one needs to go more than the other it's Chad Henne IMO.
So......Wandstadt then? He will in you 6 out of every 10 games. I'd say it's solid, but not like it's superhuman. He's got ONE SB ring to show for it. in 15 years, ONE ring. Do we have that kind of patience?
Wannstedt has a career winning % of .423. Not even close to Cowher. Who else do you have in mind? It's not like Belichick is going to be an option.
