Yeah and I can't stand the suit, but I'm open to the choice of actor.

From what I've seen, I've formed the opinion that this Director intends to take the character back to his original film roots: the 15-part Columbia movie serial of 1948, with Kirk Alyn playing the lead role.

Note the unconventional uniform concept; now note the look, typical of the time; and the George Reeves take:

Now note the similarity in this:

The difference is that the previous looks were representative of the predominant style of their times; Cavill's look in this last shot is clearly not in the present style.

I think we're going to get a stylized take on the character, modeled more on its movie past than faithfully drawn from the comics.

Actually that shot makes me more happy than the previous one ... with the still that was released it appeared as though the blues and reds were off, in this one the hues are more close to what I would expect to see in a Superman movie. The small details (around the wrist and running down the side of the leg) help break up the costume a little bit.

Now, you could make the argument that losing the red shorts makes it look like he's wearing a high-tech onesie, and I could kind of get on board with that. But there's a ton of superheroes who have a similar look (Flash, Green Lantern, Spider-man, etc.) Nabo mentioned updating the character - to me losing the underwear on the outside look is doing just that, though for fans of the traditional look I can see how it would be concerning.

I honestly don't mind the minor tweaks to the suit. I'd just like to remind everyone that in 1989 the comic book version of Batman was wearing blue and gray, and that the gothic black and yellow Tim Burton version was a vast departure from what had been seen previously.

I mean, we haven't even seen a trailer of the movie and we are already condemning it and asking for a reboot? The Singer film was flawed but it wasn't bad ... and we haven't even seen footage of this one ... shouldn't we at least give Warner Brothers a chance?

I've never been a huge Superman fan, neither the comics or movies outside of Superman 1 & 2, but I kind of like the new look. Sure it's different but is that a bad thing? I mean I always thought the red underwear outside of the pants looked a little silly to begin with anyway. I think the new suit makes this Superman look more of a bad *** than boy scout. Again maybe it's because I'm not much of a fan to begin with that the changes don't bug me.

Some people are prone to hate change while others seek it out. It's funny how each side acts as if there is a right and wrong in this. This reminds me of the Dolphin uniform discussions.

I'm going to go ahead and say it....

The original Superman movies sucked ***. There is no reason to revere any of those pieces of crap, outside of nostalgia.

    - Christopher Reeve looked ******ed in the outfit. It did not fit right at all. He looked like he was wearing children's pajamas. He was big, but awkward.
    - Those movies did the stupidest stuff ever, like flying around the world to turn back time, throwing the letter S like a net, to Richard Pryor, to the effing Nuclear Man. If any of that stuff was done in a movie today it would be laughed off the screen.
    - Gene Hackman's portrayal of Lex Luthor was ridiculous. He wasn't a brilliant evil mastermind, but he was buffoon, that was slightly less manic than Tommy Lee Jones abortion of a portrayal of Two Face.
    - General Zod was good, but instead of having epic fights against 3 equally powered foes, Superman essentially defeats them with practical jokes and stupid concocted crap like the "S".
    - Special FX sucked nuts even for the time the movie was made.

Those movies have zero redeeming qualities. They are barely a step above the old Adam West Batman TV show in terms of being an affront to the source material. And now people want to get the panties in a bunch because he isn't wearing bunched panties? Sigh. Every superhero movie worth a ****, has made the heroes costume more realistic, and there isn't a problem. Let's just hope there are epic battles where Supes can actually display his power in a fight to save the world, not by freezing a lake and dropping it on a fire.

They showed the teaser today at ComicCon in San Diego, but WB hasn't released it yet to the public. I imagine it will be out real soon. Apparently they showed a shot with Clark Kent sporting a beard.

Saying I hate it is a gross understatement. Not quite as much as how much some want to change the Dolphins' logo, but much more than a lot of things.

While I understand this is a reimagined version of Superman, much like the recent Battlestar Galactica was reimagined, there are some things to the folklore of Superman I feel are sacred. The number one thing of course is the Superman costume.

The folklore of Superman says his costume was made from his swaddling and blanket that he was wrapped and placed into the spaceship that escape Krypton's destruction. The costume, while has some intriguing features begs the question, if this was indeed made in accordance with the folklore of Superman, what kind of thick rubbery textured bedding did Kryptonians sleep on? If it's not, then where does a discreet super hero go to have such a costume made? I mean, Bruce Wayne has Lucius Fox. Who does Clark Kent have?

    Just something to ponder over.

It says "official superhero costumes". question answered.
But, while I also believe many of the original folklore should be preserved as much as possible, I'm not sure the costume being made from his baby blankets is one of them.

Its one thing to fear change, but to hate it at the epic level you do, means you should seek help.

That's a sweeping, uncalled for generalization. Where do I state that I hate all change? The only three items that I've mentioned are the Dolphins' logo, Superman's costume, and Wonder Woman's costume. If you can't imagine anything else, then you're the one who should seek help.

For one thing, I like later incarnations of the Cheetah, making her into a were-cheetah instead of a woman in a costume. I'm hoping that if WW gets made into a movie that they cast that version of the Cheetah and make her more gruesome, with blood and saliva dripping from her fangs.

    Some other things are sacrosanct.

You say that "hate" is a strong understatement for something you haven't seen yet. For all you know, everything else about the movie is spot on, but it is all ruined because of what he's wearing? That requires help.

There are certain aspects that I consider sacrosanct and the costume is among them. It may not matter to you, but simply dismissing how another feels about it, shows that you are being judgmental and self-righteous.

The new "Man of Steel" trailer was just released (sorry no link but it should be on YouTube now) and it looks fantastic. And this is coming from someone who isn't a big Superman fan at all (in the comics or movies which I disliked all of them except the 1st although that hasn't aged well) and didn't care for the MOS teaser released over the summer. I officially can't wait to see this movie. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
