I feel the same way. I'm one of the few people, I guess, that don't really like any of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies. Granted 3 and 4 most people don't like and Superman Returns was pretty blah too. I'm really hoping and want this movie to be good.
New Man of Steel viral video. Pretty sweet if you ask me. We should be getting another trailer soon. Possibly on May 3 so they can run it in front of Iron Man 3.
I have never been the biggest Superman fan and I remember seeing superman returns trailer and though it looked good (the trailer), that said this movie looks much much better I'm far more excited about this new movie.
Same here. I'm not a Superman fan at all (mainly because all of the previous Superman movies have been eh) but I'm pumped for this movie. It looks awesome.
Superman Official Trailer #3.
This is seemingly shaping up to be the Superman movie that should have been made instead of Bryan Singer's attempt to turn Superman into a feminine Jesus, Abercrombie model.
You can really tell the Nolan and Goyer influence in the film from the trailer alone. Like Batman Begins, the viewer is going to care about Clark Kent BEFORE he becomes Superman, which is extremely important, in my opinion, to any superhero film.
The only thing I'm not loving is that Jor El knew Superman would have super human powers on Earth. I always kind of liked the idea that he was just trying to save his son, found the best planet and shot him there.
I love his line when I'm assuming his wife says "they will kill him" and Jor El says "How? He'll be a god to them." A line like that could be very cheesy and cliche if done wrong and Crowe just nails it.
The new Superman: Henry Cavill I can already tell that's going to be the next great line from this movie. It was awesome.
Very few trailers are capable of what this one delivers. I've watched it at least half a dozen times and I'm still getting goosebumps. Wow. Where to start? Russel Crowe owns Jor-El. This is probably the part of the movie I'm the most worried about, honestly, because I just wasn't sure if Crowe had the gravitas to pull off upstaging Marlon Brando. That's a tall order for any actor. It looks like, at least from this trailer, he's on the right track. (Also Fin D - as an aside, the Jor-El sending his son to earth to be indestructible is a concept that's been explored in several mediums, and I believe is canon after John Byrne's reboot of the character back in 1986.) I found myself tearing up with Kevin Costner's line. In a trailer. I'm sure part of that is my identification to the subject matter already, but holy cow - emotional resonance in a movie trailer? That's virtually unheard of. Zod looks incredible. Not surprising. I love Michael Shannon's work. All the action scenes look sharp and appropriately epic. It will be interesting to see how "real" this one looks - it appears as though they're going to have Superman move in super speed, which may or may not work. Cavill looks absolutely ripped - which is a good thing. But the unquestioned star of this movie is the 3 minutes that we get to hear of Hans Zimmer's new score. It's simply incredible, and a complete departure from John Williams before him. That's not a bad thing. The new music has similar pacing, and I'll be honest, I think it ranks among the best that Zimmer has ever produced. For a long time in the late 90s and early 00s, Zimmer was sort of a one trick pony, but his style has improved with time. I was floored hearing the new music for the first time. Absolutely floored. When they said they cracked the code on what makes Superman "Superman" they're right - hope. And now I've got a lot of hope for this movie. I honestly think this might be one of the best movie trailers ever made. It's incredible. This trailer has convinced me that I'm not going to regret making an event out of it and checking it out in IMAX. TL;DR: This movie has given me hope that it's going to be incredible. It's one of the best trailers I've ever seen.
The new Superman: Henry Cavill My God as a father I honestly teared up when Costner tells him, "you are my son." And I'm usually an emotionless bastard when it comes to movies. Powerful moment. This trailer gives me immense hope for this movie.
I still don't love the idea of it. The old way, it seemed like Jor El was the only one who predicted Krypton's demise and it was a last ditch effort to save his son. With this, he'd have to somehow predict not onl;y his planets destruction but predict that the Earth's sun and gravity would make Supes...well...super. If that is the case, then why didn't he build a craft big enough for himself, the wife and the kid and go be super powered on Earth?
I was reading an article about the movie in entertainment magazine the other day, and it said that in this movie Kryptonians are biologically engineered to be fighters/whatever. Superman is the product of natural conception, the only one and an illegal birth. I think part of him being sent away may have to do with that as well, because on the planet he would be hunted. Or something along those lines.
But but but guys, Superman's costume doesn't have the red underwear! This movie is going to suck.... (Remember the out cry for that after the first picture was released? Seems silly now. Ranks up there with people going nuts that The Joker was wearing make up or Bane wasn't a tall roided up wrestler monster).
Both of those things would have made the movie better. I hated the scene with Joker without his makeup. It looked so stupid. Bane was so boring. I felt like I was at a science lecture as he was breaking Batman's back. I don't mind the costume. I don't understand the mesh look, it is supposed to be body armor? I understand taking away the underwear, it did look kind of silly. Tone of this movie kind of worries me. Part of me wishes they didn't touch the origin story. There are so many stories you can do with superman where you don't have to rehash 30 minutes that I already know about. He has been around for 75 years, it is not like they do his origin story every year in comics.
You thought Bane was boring?! You crazy? Also, not everyone knows the origin of Superman, so it is necessary.
How does someone exist and not know the origin of Superman? Especially if you are American. Especially if you are someone who would actually see a Superman movie. And with Bane, I like my character to emote every once and a while. You probably wouldn't like my opinion of TDKR. I found the movie to be mostly boring with a pretty bad plot.
Because you don't. That's pretty simple. Plus, explaining the origin of Superman will help the audience love Clark Kent, which is pretty important. As for TDKR, agree to disagree. I loved it and thought Bane was the ****.
I think there is enough rich story in Superman's history with Clark Kent, where you can accomplish that without redoing his origin. Instead of telling a new story, we are again watching the Superman origin story, which has been retold many, many, many times. I don't believe you. You know the origin of Superman. I think you are underestimating the popularity of Superman. Even though he isn't as popular as he used to be, he is still one of the most well known super heroes in the world. I don't hate the TDKR and I like Bane, for the most part. Just though that a few scenes with some emotions would have made him a better character. Especially when he broke Batman's back.
I really do not know the origin of Superman. I just know he was sent from the planet Krypton. That's it. And I'm sure there are more people like me, so it is important to establish that.
I don't understand how either of those things would have made either movie better, especially something so silly as being pera-white or wearing make up. And would you have rather have Jeep Swenson (RIP) play Bane again or John Cena or another wrestler type or an actual good actor like Tom Hardy? A lot of what made Bane an awesome character was the way Hardy looked at people with his eyes, as it's pretty hard to act well while wearing a mask. It was truly an underrated performance by him. Normally I'd agree with you about an origin story, however the Superman franchise has been dead since in the 1980s and killed again in 2005 for Superman Returns. I feel like the origin story needs to be retold in order for the viewer to care about the character of Clark/Jor-El again before he puts on the suit. Much like Batman Begins made us care about Bruce Wayne before he became Batman. And yes the suit is body armor and like TDK trilogy there is a real reason why Superman wears it. It will be explained in the movie.
Regarding the mesh look of the suit, it is supposed to be a modified version of Kryptonian battle armor that he wears. At least according to the article I read.
I guess that makes sense if they turn Kyrptonians into a warrior race, which does also make the fact that Superman is so amazingly powerful even when he isn't powered by the earth's sun, make more sense.
You didn't know that he was raised in a small town? There was an entire show on TV for ten years that was his origin story.
I have a feeling that the movie will go like this. Clark spends a portion of the first half wandering from location to location. He stays in one spot until he's inevitably forced to use his powers to save lives (like in the fisherman scene in the trailer). During his wanders and trying to find out who he is he stumbles upon something in the Artic, maybe some sort of Kryptonian spaceship or something and this is where and why he builds his fortress of solitude. While doing so he finds some of the battle armor (he modifies it or whatever) and that's where he gets the suit. Makes a lot more sense then he sewed it himself at home to me.
I don't think Bane was an awesome character. He was OK. It would have been awesome if there was a giant equivilant of Peter Dinklage. I think Hardy gave a great performance as Bane, just not a fan of the direction of the character. Thought he was a too sophisticated version of Ben Stien. I don't understand how you couldn't understand having his face not be make up would have made the movie better. I know I would have spent less time wondering when he found time to fix his make up. Luckily the movie was so exciting that the thoughts didn't bother me much. I don't agree. I think telling the origin story is lazy and has been done before. One thing to remember about Batman Begins is the fact that there has been little done with Batman's origin story. There haven't been too many stories on what happened in between his parents dying and him becoming Batman. I think you can do a great story, that is new without rehashing the origin story.
So you made it this far in your life without knowing that Superman grew up on a farm and that is where he learned values? Do you also not know that Darth Vader is Luke's father?
If you really spent time during the movie wondering how he had time to fx his make up then that's on you. Did you also wonder during the movie how the characters found time to eat, sleep and go to the bathroom too? It's such a silly small nit pick, almost trying to find something to argue about for the sake of arguing. Again my point remains that it's funny seeing people get all worked up for small things (Joker's make up or Superman not having red underwear) when it the end it doesn't matter.
Not sure why you're so surprised. I bet over 75% of the mainstream movie goer goes into these superhero movies without knowing the most of character's back story/origin if at all.
