Yea, CLE can only get players who they would renew the contracts of, or in a trade (and I have no clue what they could even trade that is desirable).

Hickson was a big sticking point in the Amare and Jamison deals last year, so there is some interest around the league in him. They would move Mo for the right price. Boobie Gibson isn't a stud by any means but could play a much bigger role for a lot of teams than he does in Cleveland.

MO has a year past 2010. New Orleans needs expirings.

Once they did the Jamison deal...the Cavs locked the roster.

He is a total and utter jackass.

He is the moron that did a 3 part series about how the Miami Heat winning the NBA Championship ended basketball.

    Look it up.

he said that Wade with his performance ushered in the "new" Era of "Star driven" basketball and killed off the team game that the Pistons, Celtics, etc..play.

It's sad, because I actually like Simmons. His book was actually really good.

But he has a hard on for Miami sports for some reason. He hates Riley (while admitting he's a top 4 all time coach), constantly beats the drum that Wade is the only star who should leave, etc.

Maybe his mother was a prostitute? (Thank you Jeff Irleand for at least one eyars worth of comedy!)

Six seconds of Googling (I'm lazy) produced nothing. But I did stumble across this joke of an article by someone else, written after the playoff loss to Atlanta last year.

It's probably on an ESPN Page 2 archive. It's basically as Sec describes, just add little jokes and obscure pop culture references to 80's tv shows and you get the gist

I don't know what's worse, the fact that people still make '80s pop culture references or the fact that ESPN expects us to pay for the privilege.

Wow, I obviously dont like the Heat but that was taking it too far...he does already have more rings than Lebron playing in Miami? Wade seems like a good human being so I feel bad for the abuse that douche gave him.

Trading for Chris Paul still allows Miami to sign Wade + one more max player, assuming Beasley & James Jones are included, which equal up to $9-10 million, and Cook's few million will probably be included as well. We'd be taking back max salary; the trade off is exactly what we'd have remaining after signing Wade + max player.

If anything happens with New Orleans I'm still banking on Beasley, James Jones, & Cook for Darren Collison & Emeka Okafor.

Also I skimmed through this thread since my last post (will go back and read later) but if I'm seeing what I believe I'm seeing... which is the idea that LeBron can attract another star in Cleveland, well, that is completely impossible aside from sign-and-trade which also will not happen.

Only Miami can OUTRIGHT sign two max players + "junior max" (I like that) as Section stated. Chicago and New York can sign two max players, but a little bit less than the $17 million (they'd both have to agree to a few million less possibly chipped in with early opt out to compensate)

And keep in mind, the Toronto GM wants to do a sign and trade.

I'm still keeping a very close eye on Carlos Boozer. I know I've expressed my dislike for him in the pass, but I was all for it when we were rumored to be interested in trading for him a season ago. If we can't land Bosh or Amare, then I'd be all for it.

Riley has a history that is very consistent... whenever he acquires a significant player, it's almost always a player that he targeted and went after in the pass. Lamar Odom, Ricky Davis, Antoine Walker, Eddie Jones, Tim Hardaway, Derek Anderson, Gary Payton, Jason Williams, James Posey, Jamal Mashburne, P.J. Brown, Carlos Arroyo, etc. (Big "etc." at that, there are many more) -- all of those guys were pursued at Riley previous to becoming a Heat, and well before at that, rumors killed and all.

Carlos Boozer fits right into that pattern. But then again, so does Amare. Riley wanted Amare at #10 overall back in 2002, but he was picked a spot before and Caron was too good to pass up anyway. Same with Bosh in that state, as Riley had Bosh graded MUCH higher than DWYANE WADE on his big board back in 2003. Bosh was his favorite player in that draft aside from LBJ of course.

Because of this, I like our chances to land one of the three. We definitely will, IMO. I'd be shocked if we start the season without one of those guys penciled in at PF or C.

Shaq's contract expires OVER the luxury TAX.

After they resign Lebron James..they have.....

    ready?

    for the 5,678th time.

    NO CAP SPACE.

and they all want to do sign and trades..to able to get something back, nobody wants ot lose a FA for nothing. but the player is the one that has all the leverage.

Any sign and trade has to be approved by the player. And the only reason it benefits the player, is that they can get more money in a S&T.

The sign and trade is just a end around the cap to be able to give the "real" MAX value of a contract.

so in conclusion. Toronto can want to do all the sign and trades it wants..but they can;t prevent Bosh from signing with whoever he wants.

    Very interesting list Sec.

I'm an Amare man myself but I'm fine with Bosh. Boozer would seem like settling at this point but he has played very well in the playoffs.

Can't we just get to July 1 already???

Basically it's close enough that one difference in opinion in any one category would flip flop Bosh and Amare. I'd be fine with either one. My guess is that it will end up being Amare.

This is how I feel as well, and I also think Amare is more likely than Bosh although I think in terms of our chances Boozer is most likely. Current success in Phoenix is screwing our chances with Amare. He's more willing to stay now, but it's all up to Phoenix's FO. They've been reluctant to offer him a max contract in the past, and may still not be willing to do so. Hope not.

Chris Bosh, I don't know why he'd stay in Toronto... they have no shot at being a contender for at least the next five years, though for some reason at the end of the day I see him staying.

That pic gives you a great perspective on how big Dwade truly is! He looks small on the court.. But is still tall motherfo compared to most average people.

Prediction based on all I've heard: Heat will trade Beasley/Jones/Cook to Washington or another team for cap and future picks.

I think we're going hard this summer to get two superstars to team with Wade; Amare + Boozer is my guess.

That is the funny thing about Wade.

If you ever meet him in person...he is not that big at all. You can tell he is 6'-4"..that you can...but his "size" and bulk that you see on TV ..you don;t see it in person.

    he is thin and fit.

On TV he looks like a Safety or WR.

    BTW, funny Wade story....

The year we won the Championship, My wife's nephew was working at Bed bath and beyond.

He notices a tall guy that looked familiar to him standing in front of the bed spreads. he goes over...and...

It is Dwyane Wade with sunglasses, a baseball cap, a t-shirt and shorts with flip flops. So naturally..this guy is a Heat fan and recognizes him right away, and says "You are Dwyane Wade.".

    Wade responds: "I hope so."

Wade then tells him that he has no idea what he is buying, that all he knows is that his Wife told him that he needed to buy bed spreads and dressings and that he had never bought any of that before.

So now this kid begins to tell him what he needs to buy..etc...and Dwyane Wade then says .."man, you lost me on that one...here dawg...here is my credit card..just get me what I need and bring it out to the suburban outside..I got a tip for you.

SO here is my wife's nephew with a credit card in hand that says "Dwyane Wade" on it and he is just buying bed spreads and pillow cases and all this crap....

He takes it out to the car and there is Dwyane Wade and some huge black guy who is obviously security...he hands over the receipt for Wade to sign it..the receipt says $450 or so....and Wade then says "That is all you spent?" He says yes...and Wade then says..."Thanks for doing this for me, I'll hook you up...what's your name?" he gets it and then leaves almost immediately and my wife's nephew is left standing there thinking.."WTF, I didn't even get a autograph!"

A day later, a Fedex guy walks in and asks for him...

makes him sign his pad and gives him a envelope.

Inside was a autographed picture of Wade and two tickets to the first round series against the Bulls.

best part about it? The tickets were lower bowl.

For those of you that know from that year...it was impossible to get lower bowl seats that year..much less lower bowl seats to a playoff game.

Wade is a ***** hound and a partier..those are facts...but he is a helluva nice guy.

Told you guys that Pat Riley would come back to the bench if he built a championship squad... the writing is on the wall, IMO:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5159192

It is SO OBVIOUS what he's saying there. I've said it all along; if Riley gets his wish of LeBron, Amare, or Bosh... he's coaching that team. Call me crazy but I still have this crazy suspicion that there is something between Riley and LeBron. That dinner that they had over the summer (Riley/Wade/LeBron)... what the **** was it about? Now we see LeBron being completely noncommittal to Cleveland during their championship run, and Wade in the media talking about how he does not mind sharing the role as THE GUY (something, IMO, he would not have to do with a big man next to him)... I don't know, man. I understand the chances are small, but I just feel it.

If "that" happens tackled with a trade for Collison/Okafor... we'd still have enough cap space to offer a bit less than the max, maybe Boozer? Who knows. Too many options right now but I'm feeling really good going into July.

LET'S GO LAKERS & MAGIC! (and you know why)

Even if he hasn't committed to returning to the bench, it's pretty interesting that Riles is committing to an extension this soon. I always thought that the consensus was that if we're able to make the necessary moves, THEN Wade AND Riley would commit.

He has at least one big name free agent in the bag, IMO.

And I must stress how impressed I was with Spo's improvement as the season ended. I hope this doesn't turn into a SVG thing if Riley decides to come back. Spo is still young, in fact, I believe he's the youngest coach in the NBA. If Riley comes back, it won't be for too long. Hopefully Spo will take a demotion down to assistant head coach with the same pay, knowing that he'd get the job back (and a championship roster) when Riley calls it a career.... again. I definitely want to come Spo around whether he's head coach or assistant.

If LeFraud becomes a Heat, I'll enjoy the national media meltdown for the week or two following that signing, but then I might have to stop following the team. I just really dislike that guy. OTOH, if Wade and Fraud can function as teammates, then you might just recreate the '90s Bulls. Question is, who plays Jordan and who plays Pippen?

As for the Riley thing, I think he's just having fun with the press.
