TSN has it on their wire now: 5:40PM Chicago signs UFA defenceman Brian Campbell to an 8 year deal worth $56.8-million

Hate to see what will happen with a good FA class. I mean if like Nick Lidstrom ever hit FA or a Chris Pronger...would 14-15mil be out of the question if the single player limit wasnt more then 20%? Holy cripes, this makes Chara and McCabe's albatross contracts look good.

I hadnt even heard of that guy Finger on toronto and I watch a lot more hockey then I post about....

6:06PM Philadelphia signs UFA defenceman Ossi Vaananen to a one year deal worth $1-million
6:01PM Columbus signs UFA defenceman Mike Commodore to a 5 year deal worth $18.75-million

Commodores deal is very reasonable given the overpayment on mediocrity like Finger and Campbell. Hes a good hard nosed D man for just under 3.8 per.

6:42PM New York Rangers re-sign UFA defenceman Michael Rozsival to a four-year deal worth $20 million

And My Isles finally strike and possibly one of the better values of the day: mark Streit 5 years/20.1million. Not bad for a guy who had 60+ points last year. Basically comparative to Campbell at a fraction of the cost and a PP specialist which the Isles need.

Still have about 20 million in free cap space if they feel like throwing uber dollars at Hossa which I doubt they will since I think it would only be another Yashin situation.

They gave Redden way too much money. He's been horse **** for a year and a half IMO.

I don't get the Blackhawks. They have 12 million wrapped up in goaltending? Now they have to clear cap room because they are over. They might have to trade a d-man. If they want to move Seabrook there is a team in Boston that I hope is interested.

I'm really mixed on this one. Ryder is a floater and takes too many lazy penalties. He's basically a younger version of Glen Murray.

If he can get his *** in gear and plays with Marc Savard he could be good for over 30 goals though.

They still need to sign a puck moving d-man but at these prices I don't know if I want them to. Hainsey sounded like a decent idea but not in a World where Jeff Finger gets 3.5 million a year.

Thats exactly why I was hoping the Isles didnt sign him...however he does have a nose for the net. Nolan wouldnt stand for his loafish attitude so that would have been a disaster on Long Island.

    Hossa to the Wings 1/7.45mil

Rangers traded Tyutin and Backman for Zherdev and Fritsche....Really dont want them to have Zherdev but with Jagr looking likely for Pitt its not a bad deal to replace some of that offense.

My isles landed Doug Weight...nice player for a rebuilding team. Has solid leadership skills, still a pretty good playmaker and will be seeing lots of power play time since Mike Comrie is our #1 Center for now even though hes only #1 by default.
    From TSN:

6:27PM New York Islanders sign UFA forward Doug Weight (1-year, $1.75 million).
6:05PM Philadelphia Flyers re-sign defenceman Randy Jones (2-years, undisclosed) and forward Riley Cote (3-years, undisclosed).
5:16PM Dallas Stars sign RFA forward B.J. Crombeen (1-year, undisclosed).
5:01PM Colorado Avalanche re-sign RFA forward Wojtek Wolski (2-years, undisclosed).
4:58PM Pittsburgh Penguins sign UFA defenceman Brooks Orpik to a six-year, $22.5 million contract.
4:41PM Minnesota Wild re-sign RFA defenceman Kurtis Foster (undisclosed).
3:38PM Atlanta Thrashers sign UFA defenceman Ron Hainsey to a five-year, $22.5 million contract.

They have a TON of cap room and no one to spend it on, they have to at least get to the salary floor.

It's not a bad move IMO. Gives them a #1 center who can still play the game. He's a young 37 and they don't have a long term commitment. They have to show Roberto Luongo that they want to win or he will bolt as a UFA in 2 years.

If they get Sundin it's a given that Naslund returns at a reduced salary asnd you throw them with Raymond and you have a legit first line with the Sedin's as your 2nd line and Kesler and Burrows as your 3rd line. Put that together with a solid defense and the best goalie in the World and you have something...

If they don't get Sundin they have nothing else up the middle, Nazzy walks and they are ****ed.

BTW...Ken Holland is a ****ing genius. Marian Hossa for 1 year at 7 million?

Hossa - Datsyuk - Zetterburg...that is a SCARY line. Their power play will be a machine.

The arsehole-a-meter (AAM) keeps flying high in Big D.

A while back the Rangers signed Sidney Ponson.
The Cowboys decided they needed T.O. to trump that move.
As if that wasn't enough to send the mercury flying outta the top of the AAM, I give you Pacman Jones.

Well, seeing all that, the Stars (Bret Hull the likely culprit as they played together) had to get in on the action and sign Sean Avery. Now, if there's a team -- and a fanbase, especially, like all the Beautiful People of North Dallas -- that need some arsehole-ishness added to them, it's the Stars. Otter's got a little of it, but overall, Dallas is a bunch of "classy", "debonair" guys. When you think of grit and heart, Morrow comes to mind, Lehtinen... but there's not a lot of it on the Stars. And the Stars desparately need someone other than Morrow that's not afraid to get in front of net. Avery brings all that... buuuuuut $4M for 4 years... I'd imagine he'll wear out his welcome within a year and a half, which seems to be his m.o. Last I heard, Brendan Morrow hated the guy, but then, I could have substituted nearly any NHL player's name (and most fans) in there for Morrow. Maybe he's the kind of guy you love to have on your team but hate him elsewhere, I don't know. He's not my favorite player.

Losing Nik Hagman and his 27 regular season goals (to Toronto for $3M/yr) versus a guy that rarely plays a full season and hasn't to my knowledge scored 20 goals in a season seems like a surface net loss. However, Hagman pulled a disappearing act in the playoffs, and Avery isn't known to disappear, at least while he's on the ice. For Dallas, I like Avery's skill set - especially being a guy not afraid to mix it up near the crease - better than Hagman's. But then, I also like to actually like my team, and this is sort of a step back there. Mostly, though, I like my teams to win, and win in the playoffs. That remains to be seen, so I'll reserve judgment on this one.

Any chance Avery can get Elisha Cuthbert back from Phaneuf so she's hanging around Dallas... that'd be something to like here.

He'll win another Cup, let Hossa walk away for some mega offer, resign Henrik and continue to draft like a machine.

The Red Wings are a sick organization, they do everything right. When they could spend like crazy they did and won. When the league became capped they took some time to adjust and are the model again.

My sources tell me the Leafs have been in discussion with the Love Guru, as they believe he can complete a pairing with Jeff ***** Fingers. Can't wait.

They also reportedly offered a contract to Pat LaFontaine, who, upon receiving a phone call from Cliff Fletcher, fell off his chair in laughter. His wife picked up the phone, and announced that he wouldn't be playing this year.

1:57PM Pittsburgh Penguins sign UFA forward Miroslav Satan (1-year, $3.5 million).

guess the Naslund signing is the end of Jagr in a Rag uniform. Good move by SJ to toughen their blueline with Blake.

Tampa looks to be serious about trading Dan Boyle as theyre well over the cap. Could be interesting to see where he lands...

I love that rumour. The Lightning sign 100 forwards, not adding anything to a defense that is at BEST brutal and now they are looking to trade their best defenseman, who they just signed to a long term contract with a no movement clause.

Am I the only one that thinks they are a bunch of idiots?

Well my fin brotheren, my team just signed Todd Bertuzzi. You know its weird. i never really hated him , even after the moore incident, thought i was more circumstantial than bertuzzi being a bad guy. But for 1.95 for one year, i actually think it was a good signing.

Most flames fans hate him, have since the intense rivalries with the canucks. He still got boo'd everytime he touches the puck. Its weird seeing a fan hated player all of a sudden play for you. The media is going crazy in calgary about all this, because of his past of course. I can't wait to see if he can play well with Iginla.

    Garth Snow got...*crickets* :Point:

Well we got weight and Streit to go play with guerin, Witt and a bunch of kids. So with the 1st overall pick in next years draft the New York Islanders select...?

I know theres a top C prospect which would pair nicely with Josh Bailey down the road and a fast rising D prospect who Im not quite as keen on but I forget both their names. The D prospect Ive heard compared to Nik Lidstrom which would win my vote right there but much is yet to be determined as Kevin Poulin found out as he was supposed to be a top 10 guy after last year but with a down year this year dipped to the 5th round before my Isles took him.

If anyone wants to read their teams draft review you can get to it through here: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/

Looks like my Isles got a major haul and already have 3 2nds geared up for next years draft. Finally Snow is doing this right! Its a shame some of my fellow fans on a different board cant see his vision with a farm system deeper then the Pacific after next year. Gotta love immediate gratification syndrome, IGS for short! :)

I love that site, I've been visiting there for 2 or 3 years.

The only gripe I have is they are a little slow updating their prospect lists for each team. Stellar site though, lets you know a lot of information about anybody who has a chance of making your team in the next 2-3 years.
