I'm far from traded out and I'd consider myself an active GM. I just haven't been able to generate much interest for some reason regardless of the fact that half my roster is on the trade block and the rest are all available for the right price. I might finally have a couple things cooking though.
Man is it frustrating to see guys that you've asked about but not heard anything back from the GM go for less than you would have paid. I feel like that's happened to me quite a bit this year.
Thats why you have to be aggressive. IMO you cant just PM someone and be like "Hey I'm interested in this guy or that guy". Come in the convo with an offer, it puts you ahead of the curve and opens the door for a counter offer or atleast gives you a feel for what they are willing to do.
IMO it hurts that a lot of both the minnesota and TB players are coming off down years. In some cases it's because of the teams the player was on but in this league most won't pay for potential they overpay for results IMO
Yet, I've done that and I still get nothing. Who said anything about players? Unless you want Adrian Peterson, I'm offering picks.
This. On both accounts. In fact I'm pretty sure I offered a higher pick along with a player for someone weeks ago and didn't hear back, only to see him go recently for less than the pick alone.
Perhaps what someone wouldn't accept to part with a player weeks ago becomes more acceptable now with the draft closer and FA nearly over. Things change. For instance, weeks ago I didn't want to trade Kelvin Sheppard at all, but recently he became part of something else I wanted to accomplish, and it just so happened to come exactly during a time when Jax was offering me picks for him. Rather than revisiting all past trade offers, it was a lot easier to stick with what I currently know and is currently on the table. Last week I wanted homemade lasagna; this week maybe I want a juicy steak instead.
Alen, rather than sending a pm asking for the cost of a player, might I suggest to roll up your sleeves and get your hands a little dirty instead? Take a moment to peruse the other team's roster, see what they might need, and slap together a trade proposal. Some GMs might not know what they'd take in trade if you don't truly give them something to think about, and a lot of times it's easier for a GM to respond with "It'll take a lot" or "I'm not really interested in trading him" rather than taking the time to look over your roster & draft picks to formulate a trade scenario themselves that they in turn pose to you. Do the work for them and help stimulate their imagination a little by coming up with something creative that they might feel could benefit them for parting ways with a player they value. Think of it as being a door to door salesman. If someone answers the door and you immediately ask them, "Would you like to buy this vacuum cleaner?", they're gonna shut the door on you, my friend, unless they happen to need a vacuum cleaner at that very moment.
This is my first year doing this and I've made my fair share of trades--some have gotten slight criticism, others praise--and I'm still trying to figure out how a lot of the GMs work. Everyone is different. One aspect that I'm struggling with is some of these outrageously one-sided trades. I just don't think I'd have the ballz to even offer some of the trades that go through.
I'm lost in the sauce in this GM league business....took on some bad salaries, cut some players I shouldn't.,,.overvalued some players....AND ran right into the cap! Anyone want to make some deals? I know I have to update my page but I'll swap players for picks within reason. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hmm i don't know then dude. Maybe people are scared to deal with you based on reputation? Im not, I just haven't really thought of anything yet.
I don't need love from you homosexicals, I need to move out of the third overall pick. Is anyone interested?
Man, I really miss playing with you all!! Just looked through most of the teams (about 20 or so lol) and some teams really stuck out to me: Packers- Offensive line took a bit of a hit, but love the additions to the defense. I am a huge fan of Rubin and Sheard. Steelers- Like the Thunder and Lightning HBs, greatly improved line, and the secondary looks good. Improved D-line, LBs took a bit of a hit, but players are still young and solid. Like Reed. Bills- Traded a lot of their draft, but you have to love the talent they acquired. They did work, improved every position considerably except QB. Jets- like the addition of Alex Smith at QB, and Peyton Hillis. Run D could be questionable imo. Good job overall. Seahawks- Love Schaub and Tate in the backfield. Lawrence Timmons helps the D alot. Could use some WR help. Giants- Kept most of the Super Bowl team together which is respectable. Made the D-Line even scarier (if that was possible lol). Greatly improved LBs. Patriots- Lots and Lots of moves. Like the additions of Watt and Orakpo. Improved their greatest weakness the secondary. You made me proud Skeet as the former Pats GM. Jaguars- Hell of a job on a team no one wanted. Had a top 5 defense last year and adding Manning, Wayne, Floyd, Iupati, Celek bring their offense up to par. Will miss Poz at LB, but overall improved the D some too in my opinion. And hahah at GIK adding Luck to his roster even before the draft starts. Can't really mess that up alen- I am sure you have a great team, you always do, but I couldn't tell if your team page was up to date or not... I have a hard time reading rosters where the players are listed all together like that. Also if I didn't get a chance to look at your team, I will try to look at it soon and post my thoughts... Love you all!
That's what I figured. I always thought you did that to give yourself leverage by people not knowing your cap situation and your "needs" before the draft and free agency. Genius move I must say lol
Appreciate the props Finatic. Hopefully next year you'll be able to do this so we can go head to head. It's been a learning experience but I'm pretty happy with the team I've compiled. Like you said, it was a team nobody wanted but I think I upgraded nearly every position and have the Jags at a level where they can contend for the playoffs.
Thanks Schisno, appreciate it. That was probably the trade I felt the least confident with when I first made it and it was scrutinized a little. But I felt a lot better with it after that grainy video of "Peyton" throwing at Duke.
