I went to see Aquaman today and enjoyed it. Its big, its loud, its pretty, its fast and its fun. They didn't try to do too much or make it more than it is, and it worked. Jason Momoa is really likable. I had never seen Amber Heard in anything before, but she did well in her role as Mera. Overall, its the second DC movie that I've liked along with Wonder Woman, after hating the rest.

Hella creepy. Lynchian. A bit open-ended for my liking, but between this and Hereditary- it's been a good year for horror. There's always a couple that try and succeed to transcend the genre in interesting ways.

Speaking of Hereditary - Holy crap that movie scared the **** out of me. It had me shocked, creeped out and disgusted.

I highly recommend it for those of you that like horror films. May rank up there as my all time favorite.

Check out Possum then, though be forewarned, it's a much more slower-paced, atmospheric affair.

    First Man.

Excellent film. The flag controversy is a bunch of BS. See the movie before you make any judgements. A+

I watched Pirates of the Caribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales tonight. It was very easily the weakest of the five moves in the series. The plot was thin, and they didn't bother even really coming up with good fantasy excuses for why things were the way that they were. It was also hard to take seriously when they jumped way forward in time, but many of the characters from the earlier moves only aged slightly, which made no sense.

The young actress Kaya Scodelario was very solid in her role. All of the other newer additions were weak, and the older ones gave a weak effort.

I thought ‘Polar’ [Netflix] was f***ing great. If something like a cross between John Wick & Crank sounds appealing to you, then this is right up your alley. Several “out loud” moments, plus the final 2 sentences leading to a vocal “YES” on my end.

Saw Lego Movie 2 yesterday with the family. Its good, and its funny, but its also probably the weakest of the four Lego movies to this point (including Lego Batman and Lego Ninjago). They have a good plot, a good theme and a lot of funny lines, but they try to shoehorn all of the characters in from the first movie without a real reason to. In the first movie, each one had a purpose, even if that purpose was just to make a silly joke. This time, like with a lot of sequels, they seem to feel like they have to make a place for all of them again, and it becomes cluttered.

Instead of a 10/10 like the original, its more of a 7.5/10. Worth seeing if you liked the other movies. The kids will enjoy it. But maybe not worth going out of your way to see, and not an upgrade over what they've done before.

MADS is the best Euro actor since Rutger Hauer. I'll watch anything of his. The PUSHER trilogy (he stars in the second) is one of the best set of movies ever made. Just watched THE HUNT which has him as an innocent man accused of child molestation and what he has to deal with. The movie was great though scary. That is real horror

Don’t read anything about Martyrs first though. Can’t have any of the story given away.

Watched the Sisters Brothers tonight, one of the best Westerns I've seen for a while. Bit different to your usual Western, and John C Reilly is fantastic in it. Joachim Phoenix does a good job as the other brother too.

    Alita: Battle Angel

I very much enjoyed this movie. A solid 7 out of 10. The biggest issue is it felt like it was 2 hours and 20 minutes. It did feel like it dragged for story and plot and world building.

The best positive is the action is amazing. The CGI is probably the best I have seen. There wasn't one part where I was taken out and thinking that what I was seeing wasn't real. Everything had the right weight. It looked like it was $200 million was well spent.

I thought the trailers were bad and the big eyes were stupid. However, when watching the movie, the big eyes weren't a problem because she wasn't meant to look human, and it makes you so darn cute!

The acting was great, the action is great, the 3-D effects are outstanding, it even does the thing where the stuff is coming right at you!

I had a blast. It is the type of movie that is best watched in a movie theater. Kind of wish I went to a better theater to get a better experience.

If you like anime, you need to see this movie. If you like action, I am sure you will enjoy the action parts.

Rewatched the first season of Spotless and loved it again. 2 French brothers in London in a dark drama with comedic threads but definitely not a comedy. Taught crime based show where an estranged brother unannounced calls on his brother in the middle of the night with with the body of a dead girl and pulls him into the underside of London.

Season 2 has no official status which hopefully will occur after several years.

    Just watched Captain Marvel.

I think the movie is extremely fun. I enjoyed the heck out of it. Better than Alita: Battle Angel, so I would give it a solid 8/10.

The thing that sells the movie for me is the characters. They all had great chemistry and I felt like I was watching real people in an insane situation. It is not a perfect movie. As a fan of villains, this movie did not have the greatest villain. Felt very Phase 1 in that regard.

If you like sci-fi action, you are going to love this movie. If you think the world is being ruined by SJWs and political correctness is cancer on society, then you will probably not like this movie and you should die in a fire. In a way where you are not knocked out by the smoke, but feel every second of the burn.

I will say that unless you buy into a certain character in the movie, do not stay for the second end credit scene. IMO, I felt I wasted my damn time. The first one got me excited and was the third time the crowd cheered.

I just saw "Hereditary" this week. Alone. With headphones. Questionable life choice.

But yeah, it's now my all-time favorite horror movie. An absolute classic that deserves to be right up there with "The Exorcist" and "Rosemary's Baby."

Just watched Spider Man- Into the Spider Verse.

Spectacular. Reference quality 4k and an amazing movie. Watched the 4K Blu Ray on my OLED 65 and I'm still in awe. Highly, highly recommend this. I also recommend that if you watch movies at home you should look in to an LG or Sony OLED. The picture quality destroys everything else and I'm afraid it's not even close.

I liked Captain Marvel, but didn't love it. There was a big battle at the end that left me disappointed. I didn't feel the opponents were developed enough for me to think they were tough or insurmountable for the hero. There was an emotional element to that battle, but I only believed part of it. The part you see in the trailers where she keeps getting up, that was good. But the other physical opponent I didn't buy. I also didn't care for the cat, which is something I keep hearing brought up as a great part of the movie. Maybe I'm just more of a dog person. In the end there were only a couple of scenes I liked. I'll probably never re-watch it.

The recent movie I loved was Alita: Battle Angel. It wasn't perfect. It was one of those that felt like they were just trying to start a franchise. But I loved the protagonist. I thought there were several excellent performances. The movie was exciting and the special effects were incredible. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

The lack of character development for everyone other than Talos and Fury, was the main issue with this movie. The story was too big for one movie, it should have been a 2 parter.

I feel like we didn't get to know her at all. It feels like the only change in her character was when...

...the inhibitor chip came off and her powers weren't being governed.

I want to know more about her, but in an origin story we're meant to see the character grow and I didn't see that.

I don't doubt it. I've always said that the MCU does not get enough credit for what they've done with story telling. I mean if you really pay attention to Iron Man and Captain America's arcs from their origin movies till now....it is effing breathtaking how those two have grown and literally swapped ideologies and still always remain on opposite ends of the hero line.

Just a brief synopsis of some of what I mean:
    - Cap goes from having nothing and wanting to be a hero to struggling with fame all while going from towing the government line to being callous about authority.
    - Iron Man goes from having everything and not wanting to be a hero to struggling with his heroic anonymity all while going from being callous about authority to towing the government line.

And all that happens while you don't really notice it while its is happening and they are still true to who they are as characters. That level of complexity is unheard of.

...which is why I was disappointed with Captaion marvel's lack of development in her origin. I feel like she was exactly the same person in the beginning and end of the movie and wanted there to be some growth to power future performances like with Captain America and Iron Man.

Well, remember: For much of the movie, she's too busy finding out who she is to do much "growing."

No i get it, I just think this 1 movie should have been 2. It would have allowed for the story to be told in full. I understood the choices they made based on the constraints they had, I just wish they didn't have the constraints at all. It felt like a cliff notes version of the story they wanted to tell.

I agree with you, and not to spoil things for people, but there is talk that her second stand alone movie will pick up following the events of the first one, rather than taking place in the current time period. So, it could turn out that it truly is part one and part two of her origin story.
