The Official What was the last movie you saw??

I just watched Super Mario Bros and wow that is not a good movie. It is a perfect film to put on for children.

I see why it got bad critic reviews but a good audience score. As a movie, it was awful. It was just stuff happening. The last line in the scene exists just to set up the next scene. However, I also see why the audience liked it because it was a people pleasing movie. You want Mario ****, here is all the Mario **** you will ever want. I did enjoy seeing all the Mario ****.

The thing I absolutely hated was any time a modern song played. WTF. Why am I listening to Take On Me when there is a chance to take one of the great Mario themes and make it pop with a modern orchestra? I loved hearing the various themes from Mario.

The best part of the movie was the depressing ghost.

 

If you liked Into the Spiderverse you will like Across The Spiderverse.

As someone who thinks Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse is the best superhero movie of all time, Across the Spiderverse is a worthy sequel. It was one of the few times that it ended with a to be continued where I was happy because that meant there was going to be more because I want more.

The animation should not work. What I mean by that is that each Spider-Man has their own art style and they mesh amazingly. It is a feast for the eyes. I need to see it again because I was almost overwhelmed by what I was seeing on screen.

The plot is good enough. I am not saying it is award-winning or anything, it is just the characters shine. Spider-Punk is amazing. Pavitr Prabhakar is another great addition. Spider-Man 2099 being in the movie is great.

Into the Spiderverse is one of my favorite movies of all time, so it would be hard for Across the Spiderverse to top it. And it didn't. However, saying that I believe that with a few repeated viewings Across the Spiderverse will be in my top 20 if not top 10 movies of all time. It is glorious.

I am hoping Beyond The Spiderverse is a worthy ending this to make it an amazing trilogy.

 

I enjoyed the first movie, and thought that it was fun, but the extended trailers for this one give me pause, because really nothing that they're showing is compelling me to want to rush out and see it, and that's the specific point of a trailer. I will absolutely watch it eventually, but I might not get to it at the cinema.

 

If you don't see it in cinemas you are dead to me.

Joking aside, you are doing yourself a disservice not watching this in theaters.

I am going to watch it again but in 3D, and maybe even a third time.

I didn't really pay attention to the trailers or tried not to because I knew I was going to watch this movie.

This movie is a feast for the eyes.

 

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

My wife insisted we go, and I actually had a good time. Nowhere near as bad as the reviews make it to be. I’d put it somewhere between the original trilogy and Crystal Skull. Not a flawless movie but an enjoyable one.

The biggest problem is Phoebe Waller-Bridge who plays the main female lead. Her acting range goes all the way from smarmy to smug, whilst bypassing smart on the journey. I have never seen a more profoundly unathletic lead in an action movie, which is a problem when she is required to run, jump and fight throughout the movie. Charlize Theron as Furiosa, Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, Scarlett Johannsen as Black Widow show there’s plenty of female actors capable of handling action scenes. I’m not asking for Linda Hamilton in T2, but please if you are casting an action movie please try to find an actor who can fulfill the minimum physical requirements.
80 year old Harrison Ford was more convincing in the action scenes.
The other main problem was the big switch at the end where she went from cynical and uncaring to “please don’t leave Indy we still need you” which had no depth because she failed to establish any motives for her character other than self interest. Maybe they were going for Han Solo coming back at the end of A New Hope vibe, but they needed a much better actress to pull it off than PWB.

In fact in the same movie they cast Shaunette Renee Wilson as a Federal (CIA?) agent, and she was everything Phoebe Waller-Bridge should have been. I was genuinely disappointed she didn’t turn out to be the female lead in the movie she was able to project smart, tough, capable with genuine heart and handled her action scenes very competently.

Other than that it was quite enjoyable. One scene involving the 12 year old side kick jarred me worse than the fridge scene in Crystal Skull, but that was the only WTF moment for me. There were a bunch of other logic gaps that your mind wallpapers over while you are in the cinema and it is after the end credits roll you start asking “hey, how did they …”

 

I've been a big Indy fan my entire life. Raiders is one of my inner circle favorite movies of all time, and The Grail is awesome as well. But, I'm going to wait until its on Disney+ to check this one out. Thank you for the review, that does make me feel better about the whole thing.

Honestly, they should have made about three Indy movies in the 90s and early 2000s and been finished with it before the Crystal Skull was even made, but it didn't happen for whatever reasons.

 

Turned out they don't have 3D version of the movie. I wish they did.

Better a second time. Officially my favorite movie of all time. Just wow.

 

Anyone seeing Oppenheimer? I am intrigued, but with a baby it's hard to pull the trigger on anything atm.

Nolan does some fantastic stuff, but a biopic isn't his usual thing. Curious how other folks thinks this stacks up to his other works.

 

I doubt that I'll ever see it. Just doesn't look like something that I'd enjoy, and I haven't seen most of his movies anyways.

 

Bull on Netflix, starring Neil Maskell, who was the reason I decided to watch it as like him as an actor. Low budget British gory revenge thriller, reminiscent of Dead Man's Shoes, which is great if you've never seen it, but not quite as good as that. It even has a similar twist near the end, but I saw it coming in Bull fairly early.

 

Killers of the Flower Moon
Production values are excellent. Acting ranges from good to great. Highly recommended.

Nit Picking.
De Niro and De Caprio are too old for the characters they are meant to be playing. I wish Scorcese had found someone different than his regulars for their roles. No complaint about the acting and I was able to suspend disbelief.
It runs for 3 hours which got me a bit squirmy in my seat because the pacing is very deliberate.
There are a couple of references to the Tulsa riots which in my view add nothing to the film and distracts from its message.

Warning.
The way the movie unfolds it works best the less you know about the source material. The trailer didn’t give away too much, but I think the movie works best if you-don’t know what is coming ahead.
