-
Been watching Band of Brothers again getting ready for it
-
Just an FYI, the premiere of this series is March 14th at 9pm.
-
Starts on Sunday, I hope you all have HBO and watch this, if not get it NOW.
-
very much anticipating it!
-
Somebody let me know how it is tonight... I don't have HBO and have to wait on other means haha
-
I liked it a lot. Starts slow but the last 20 minutes are awesome. Not really complaining that it starts slow though since Band of Brothers episode one was kinda boring. I'm expecting big things from this show

pretty good episode. i dont think it will disappoint. whats interesting here is the contrast. you have normandy hell right off the bat, but here the hell is lurking in the jungle behind everything
is a war not between western powers that play by the same rules, but of a suicidal enemy thats creative and brutal and really the favorite of the war in the beginning
whereas 'band of brothers' was a needed visual aid to vastly famous encounters brought to a younger generation, this is about events that a lot of people dont really know about. in a way, it makes it more important historically305 likes this. -
The scene with the lone Japanese soldier kinda effed me up.
That was an amazing show of how that war effected every side.Ronnie Bass likes this. -
John Basilone was the man.

Its pretty good though will watch Ep 2 later. -
Has anybody been keeping up with this? Granted it started off a little slow but the last three weeks have included some of the most awe inspiring, gut wrenching and brutal combat scenes ever captured in film, and emotionally toll on the soldiers has been at times tear jerky.
Turning into a must see for everyone.Fin D likes this. -

i have seen every episode. i think its pretty good, but thats it. i suppose im holding to too high a standard in my mind, but its really not doing it for me. im just not connecting with the characters. im connecting with their environments and situations, but not really the men themselves the way i did with BOB
-
When Spielberg and Hanks were making BoB one of the veterans remarked that as bad as it was for them in Europe it was nothing compared to how brutal it was for the boys in the Pacific, and I think when they made this mini-series it was in that mind-set to show the emotional and physical brutality that this kind of combat brought to the American Marine, where BoB was more made to show the camaraderie among the American soldier and thats the difference between them.
I just think people are going into this mini-series with the wrong expectations and are cheating themselves on what this sereis can deliver, and that is a raw, gut wrenching and a sombering reality what it was like for these poor Marines.Fin D likes this. -
agreed on all points, RB. i think the production quality is outstanding, but im finding it difficult to really be enthused about it. it feels disjointed. its following the men, but the story goes all over the place
i suppose its a very difficult story to tellRonnie Bass likes this. -

Pacific has a very different feel to it than B of B (which I liked better in many respects). It is darker than B of B (though that had its moments). They also aren't following a great leader as B of B had in Winter. And, the characters are showing a lot more negative emotion.
I can see, in some ways, the difference in the two fronts contributes to that - as well as the nature of the fighting. But, I think it is also Hollywood putting a bit more emotiveness into the characters - a bit beyond reality.
At the same time, there is great value in this and in Pacific in demonstrating the negative impact such warfare can have on the human soul. -
part 8 was awesome, just awesome. in sort of a good new, bad news way, it felt almost like a standalone short movie, not a part of a miniseries. but it was still excellent

yeah you can kind of tell that when he started running around like superman it was just a matter of bad luck. too much stuff flying around.
the scene looked like absolute hell on earth. whats worse than that? throwing someone in a bear pit?
anybody else think this miniseries should have included naval battles? or is it that they are too well known? too expensive? -
