I'm not defending Ted Ginn in the least. I'm really not. I'm just wondering why Ted Ginn is being thrown under the bus by many people in this thread while other players who were larger contributing factors to the loss are kept out of harm's way, proverbially speaking.
Well...pretty much every one of his mistakes is either in a crucial game winning type of situation or something that turns the tide. Dropping TD passes...dropping 2 passes on a 2 min drill drive....bobbling a pass that allows the D to pick six it...not going up for a ball and fighting for it...etc, etc, etc. He was the #9 pick in the draft. How many other players have we taken in the top 10 that are on this team? Long and Brown? They perform at a high level. Should we not expect the same from Ginn?
There were some mistakes, cam fumbled out of bounds, but he caught a few crucial 3rd down conversions, Bess fumbled, but also made a couple plays.. Those guys that made a few boneheaded plays, when givent eh chance to redeem themselves, somewhat did.. Ginn dropped a 3rd down conversion, caused a turnover, and did nothing in the return game. When given the opportunity to redeem himself, he didnt.. Looking back on the season as a whole, Cam, Bess, Hartline.. those are truly reliable guys.. Can we call Ginn a reliable guy? Hell no.. there are guys behind Ginn who deserve and want the playing time. Ginn does not deserve to be on the field.. Its not even too far of a stretch to say Turner could produce better than Ginn.. Im all for giving him a shot too. Going forward the depth chart should be, Hartline, Cam, Bess, Turner/Ginn, Ginn/Turner... As far as the "Ginn stretches the field" arguement.. I dismiss it. Defenses do not respect Ginn, that being said, he cant open anything up downfield when the defenses know he will simply drop 80% of the balls that are thrown to him.
If we start a thread on every individual that assisted in the loss the server would crash. Ginn has been consistently inconsistent, I'll keep hoping for him to improve, but I won't be as patient as I was with Chambers.
Exactly. Case in point the one play where he didn't even fight for the ball on 3rd down. He let the DB beat him to the ball and didn't even attempt to get the ball at the highest point. Greer did and made the play.
Chambers was leaps and bounds better than Ginn. They arent even in the same class at the point in their careers. Its not even a stretch to say that even now as crappy as he has been, that Chambers is better than Ginn
I'm wondering how much of that Jets 50+ yard TD catch was a sweet *** pass by Henne, and how much of it was Tedd Ginn making the catch... 80% Henne 20% Ginn? Ugh... I want to like Ginn, he just needs to give me a reason to more than once a season
Here is a transcript of that conversation in the huddle. Ted: "Yo Chad, I can beat him on a post and split the corner and the safety" Henne: "Now Ted, OK, the ball is coming to you. You dont have to do anything but get there, I will drop it in. Do not, and I repeat, do not, touch the ball with your hands. DO NOT, let the ball touch any part of your hands, fingers, anything. I will throw a perfect pass and just let the ball drop into your arms, but do not let the ball touch your hands". Ted: OK Chad. Ill let you do all the work, Im not down with fighting for the ball so please make sure its a perfect pass". Henne: "Dont worry Ted, you wont have to do a thing" team breaks huddle
The very first thing you are taught is to catch the ball with your hands and bring it into your body. This does not look like a professional trying to catch a football. It looks like a 6 year old trying to trap the ball between his arms and chest.
I don't think that's it. If it is, it shouldn't be the reason. IMO, the main reason he's an easy target is because of where he was drafted. Bess was an undrafted FA, therefore no one is on him even though that fumble turned the game. Camarillo was a FA from the previous regime, therefore we're not killing him for a bonehead play that cost us on the final drive. Ricky dropped a pass just like Ginn but he scored 3 TD's so it's ok. It's just as easy to make excuses for a player(s) as it is to rip them. Ginn deserves blame for this loss, just like the other 52 guys and Coaching Staff deserve blame.
bess hasn't been all that great this year. ive noticed alot of these guys seem to have the dropsies this year. the only one who doesn't is cam, but he disappears like the rest of them do.
I heard the reason we keep Ginn is because he never calls in sick. He can't even catch a cold! OK, I'm done, that was too easy and a little low.
I'm with the majority here. I've tried to defend Ginn for too long. It's starting to get ridiculous. Oh well, time to hop on the Hartline Bandwagon.
What's weird is that until this year he didn't have the dropsies. Methinks he's been reading his press clippings and trying to do too much. He's not very mentally tough. Part of me thinks we dog him so much because he represents one of the main mistakes of a failed regime.
One last thing about Ginn.... (some) people are making a big deal that he had over 100 return yards. This really isn't that hard considering that the Saints kicked off 9 times....yes 9 times. Ginn returned 4 of those for a 25 yard return average. So that means the avg starting position he left us was only 5 yards better than the 5 touchbacks he also had. That combined with his constant running to the sideline instead of taking the aggressive route that a true return specialist would take is why he should get no praise for having 100 return yards. I mean, we did draft a guy that was touted as return specialist...right?
The punt return before the end of the 2nd half, told me a lot about where Ginn is mentally. All he had to do was turn and run up field and we are in scoring position again, instead, he turns to the sideline and get's tackled for a lose. My recollection is that there was no-one within 10 yards when he caught it. His confidence was shot before the start of the 2nd half, not sure if this is fixable. Can I get some Patrick Turner please??????
He's like Jason Allen, a victim of his draft position, a position that he may never live up to. I am glad to seen JA doing well on STs, maybe Ginn will find his role on the team.
I have been a lurker around here for sometime. I felt the need to finally registar and after yesterdays game. I always supported Ginn, but as of now im done. You can't teach someone to be aggressive. Ginn is scared. He still thinks he is faster than defenders and neglects the little things. I watched several routes yesterday that made me want to puke. In fact, I will go as far as saying I don't think I have ever seen Ginn set up a defender. Either our wide reciever coach is the worst of all time or Ginn is just a waste of time. I for one would be done with this expirement if I were on the coaching staff.
On that punt return, he got pushed back by his own blocker. I didn't think that was his fault. Posted via Mobile Device
he's a terrible route runner who drops big passes and also sucks in the return game. soooo.....why is he still around?
ted may have been great against college scrubs. but he cant hack it here. he does not have the brains or the guts to be a professional football player. maybe he has the desire, since he stuck it out this long. Henne HIT him with the ball at least 3 separate times yesterday that ALL got dropped. maybe we need a true number one to take the attention off of him and maybe that will help... maybe its not teddy's fault. i guess maybe its just that the rest of the team isnt good enough to make up for ginn's short comings. /sarcasm
Every player who catches the ball is going to have this happen to him. The problem is it's not the first time, or second, or third. It's become consistant in Ginns game to let the team down by either not fighting for the ball, not being where he should be, or flat out dropping easy passes. With his frame I don't mind him running away from hits but thats if the rest of his game is on point, and its on point alright. Like a sharp dagger straight to our hearts. Lets see what Turner has and let Ginn sit AT LEAST the next game.
I agree. I also was a big Ginn supporter. I thought that Henne would revitalize Ginn's role. Perhaps I was wrong. This year he really seems to have regressed. His first two years, I felt like he was really sure handed. This year, he's dropping everything. Posted via Mobile Device
That's what's so confusing. That was the main reason I defended him as long as I did. He was sure handed. Not really sure what happened.
i was a fan of ginn and a defender...no longer. he went from having good hands to bad ones. and the coaching staff doesnt even have enough confidence in him to have him on the field most of the time nor on the field when we needed a play the most..im done with him... we better upgrade the position this off season
Seriously, I think everyone here is freaking crazy with the way they throw Ginn under the bus. Cut him? Get a clue. Throw rocks at me, the entire site will. I don't think Ginn is a #1 receiver, but because I may defend him... people think I think he's a #1 receiver. I'm just tired of the rehashing crap. I really feel like some want Ginn to fail (even though they say otherwise) so they can say "I told you so!" I've been apart of this site and the other place for a long time... and I really think the mains is getting closer... and closer... to the quality of Finheaven. Day by day.
I defended Ted Ginn a few times myself, and up until recently, last week. I am sick and tired of this guy dropping passes, running out of bounds, and not running his proper routes. Trade him and see if we can get a pick for him. Just one more thing, lets say Ted leaves this team after this season, will there be anyone left from the '07 draft class?
I am sure plenty want to see Ginn fail. There are guys who have admitted to hating the guy. And he does make catches when the game is on the line. However we magnify his drops and shrink his good plays. Every single player needs to take a good luck at themselves after this games. Not just Ted Ginn Jr, not just Gibril Wilson... Every single one of them. We played like **** in the 4th quarter. We coached like **** in the 4th quarter. We basically were **** in the 4th quarter.
I'm not placing all of the blame on Ted Ginn. And I have never once bad mouthed the guy before this game. I have always thought that he was a talented player and just had a longer learning curve because of his alleged learning disability.
He is a talented player with mental lapses. We can only hope he can leap over this, but we don't know at the moment. I hope he stays away from newspapers and message boards... I've never seen a guy get so much criticism since Chris Chambers.
