Without fixing the offensive line it doesn’t matter! No quarterback can sit there and take constant pressure in their face!!
The venomous hate for Tua is amazing. He's got broken ribs so he should have just kept playing. Just give him a shot and send him out there otherwise he's a *****. I understand why people hate to come to these boards sometimes.
That hit on Tua was not only vicious it was illegal and should have drawn a flag and probably a fine. That was a text book example of the rule change put in place after Aaron Rodgers got crushed and knocked out of the game. Defender is not allowed to drive QB into ground and land on top of the QB. Calling Tua soft is ridiculous. Not a man on this board would’ve gotten up from that.
Was he planted on his shoulder with the entire weight of the defender moving laterally down his shoulder. Geez - you guys are too much.
One of the older football movies or shows talked about, "Are you hurt or injured?" That's a real thing in sports- if you're hurt, suck it up or sit on the bench...it's nothing too serious and it's not going to get worse with you playing. It will be painful, sure, but you can still do your job at high levels. Wallace is hurt a lot, for example. Injured is the opposite of that; if you continue playing, it could lead to career-ending results. You don't play injured players and risk their careers...even if they want to play (Tua wanted to play last week, for example). Tua was clearly injured and it's not a knock on his manliness or any of that stuff. He should be placed on IR and we should move Sinnett up. Hopefully we can drop someone down to the practice squad in his place instead of losing them outright.
No one hates Tua. He’s a good guy and I don’t have anything personally against him. Many people hate that we drafted him and felt we’d be better off drafting Herbert. Football is a violent game and he always gets injured. How many seasons has he played a full season? When? What did the morons who made that selection think was going to happen when the players got bigger, faster and stronger? Additionally, they traded up for a WR who may not make a difference because we can’t protect a QB. Slater was there at #12 as well as all the draft capital that SF gave us. Hindsight is 20/20 but many are starting to question the job Grier is doing.
Generally speaking, I agree with you. That was a massive part of my argument in favor of Tannehill while he was here. However, where I guess I disagree, is that I don't believe Tua is anything special. So, while I agree that the oline did him no favors, there is nothing that I personally have seen, ever, that indicates that with a good/great oline, Tua would be a top 5-10 QB in the league. So, in essence, I agree that we should improve our oline. It's ****ing terrible. I also think that we need to start looking at who we can draft, and at what cost, because I don't think Tua is the answer. And, just to say it again, I WISH Tua would play well enough that it would prove me wrong. I would be absolutely ecstatic if Tua started having stat lines like 22-30, 300 yards, 3tds 0ints. I love everything about Tua, except his skill set. I want him to be wildly successful, I just don't think he will be.
I can't believe you guys are arguing about something as unverifiable as whether a hit - the force and impact of which is unmeasured - was something some other person could have brushed off. Are you for real? I know we're all frustrated but for crying out loud complain about something that's at least rational.
The same Herbert that has 3 turnovers and TD so far this season? I imagine we'd be 1-1 or 0-2 so not much of a difference.
One person is arguing that, while everyone else is saying how ridiculous that is. Please don't lump us all together into the category of thinking that's a legit conversation that needs to be had.
Difference being one player has a history of injuries while the other, who still may not end up being a franchise QB, has at least shown that he can play at a high level in the NFL.
Just so you know, Herbert broke his collarbone in 2017. He hurt his shoulder in 2018 and missed multiple games. Then he hurt his knee in 2019, also missing game time. So going into the draft, he had just as much of an "injury history" as Tua. If you want to say it was a major risk signing Tua after an injury of that caliber, then sure, that's fair. But don't compare two QBs who both got banged up throughout college, but claim one is much more durable. For instance, Joe Burrow was healthy in college...do I need to finish that story of his NFL rookie season? How could that possibly happen since he's so 'durable'?
Nah, Key. Yeah he had some injuries as most football players have, but they weren't major surgeries and the key point(no pun intended) is that he finished off his college career strong. So. going into the draft, he was very durable and stable. He finished off his college career with 2 MVP awards. Not a comparison
I agree and personally, I would not have drafted Tua for that specific reason. But at the same time, it's unfair to make it out like he's made of glass and Herbert is made of steel. No QB is going to withstand hits like last week over and over again- it's ridiculous for any NFL organization to put a QB in that situation. So while I agree that major injury in the past is a concern, wouldn't that make it an even bigger goal to protect your QB? That's 100% a line thing; not a QB thing. And for the record, I said to go Becton on offensive line in R1 and draft Hurts in the 2nd or 3rd. My wish was to build the line, start Fitz, and hope Hurts developed without actually betting the farm that he would.
You’re right, every player gets injured and no one is immune when they get hit hard enough. My problem is it’s always something, something freak or out of his control. But the story remains the same, he has a hard time staying healthy. I wanted us to draft Herbert or Wirfs. Can’t go back and change that. But I can be disappointed by the decisions that Grier keeps making and voice it on a board of people who are collectively passionate about all things Dolphins, even though we rarely agree on anything
The issue is this guy is to fragile to play in the NFL. The guy had the best talent in college football and still couldn't stay on the field. And here we are again.Last year missed a game because of injury and here we our again. The guy got blasted but I saw tannehill get blasted the same way and got up time and time again. I said it when he was drafted and I will say it again. Stupid pick. This will put us back 3 years unless we get Wilson,Rodgers,or Watson next year.
Sorry. I didn't intend to lump everyone in, and I know that "you guys" is vague. I didn't have the time or inclination to go over the specifics. There was a debate going on so I threw in my two cents.
I've not heard any mention of it so far. They could risk Sinnett by elevating him but would need to cut someone. They can only protect him on the PS so many times. Then again, if you're going to protect a QB on the PS to that extent because you fear someone else might give him a roster spot, maybe you should be elevating him yourself?
I agree- either he's good enough or he's not. With Tua down, we absolutely have to have a backup and if you're not convinced that should be Sinnett, then don't protect him on the practice squad. Side note. Given how important QBs are in this league, I don't know why the NFL doesn't automatically say the PS quarterback is protected for two full seasons, regardless of how much they move up or down. Every team in the league would agree to that.
That Davis block though... What was he doing? He just stops moving backwards and let's Espinoza run right past him.
Davis should be moved to guard. He has never been a very good tackle, he was great at guard though. He also seems to be injured because he's not moving very well.
Venomous hate? ROFL! Only on the internet is thinking someone was drafted too high and won't make a good NFL QB "venomous hatred." Just for the record, I wouldn't make a good NFL QB either, but I don't hate myself.
