Figured we needed a thread for the new season...

If you're not caught up on the first episode... don't read this yet...

    Go ahead...

So of course, like everyone, totally freaked out over who was going to meet Lucille. I was fine with losing Abraham. He went out a hero and all... but man, Glenn... that was tough. I saw it coming about a split second before it happened, to the point that I said.. "GLENN!"... yet my wife still screamed. still gut wrenching stuff... almost like they did their "what happened to Glenn" thing last season just to prepare people for this eventuality.

it's why I hate when people talk about the comics... because in the comics he dies and it was one of those eventualities. So just a reminder here... no comics discussion!!

I don't read the comics, but one of my co-workers does. I felt like last year they teased a Glenn death and when they received a big outcry to save him they did. From what I hear about the comics, I wouldn't mind if they went in their own direction. I wonder if they have to keep it the same some.

yeah, that was exemplified when Rick was driving away at the end of the last episode... driving away from that walker... looking at the walker like he was just a wild animal (like a deer or a wild pig). probably thinking to himself, "why couldn't we just go back to killing walkers?"

yeah, it didn't surprise me too much given the comic book discussions from last year, but my wife was upset. Still sucked to see though, probably the character I related to the most.

yeah and I think the show died a bit last Sunday. Losing Glenn like that. IIRC he hadn't killed anyone (only walkers) until last season when they had their raid against Negan's group. So I guess his "innocence" was lost then. Fair game I guess...

I really thought they were going to kill Eugene given how they pumped up his personality at the end of last season.
It was a bit too brutal for me. I still will keep watching, but that took it a bit far and lost some lustre

It's interesting... would we rather Glenn have died in heroic fashion, like last season, being eaten by walkers, or the way he died last episode? I'd much rather go for the former.

I liked his death. I hated the fake out last season. I also hated the way the season ended. I'm feeling like the writers are more interested in toying with the audience than actually crafted a well put together story. The premiere wasn't executed too well either. No major advances, outside of seeing who actually died. And it took half the episode to see it, in a flashback no less... Cliche and poorly written. Jeffery Dean Morgan/Neegan was the highlight of the episode. His ongoing commentary and sunny disposition is fun to watch.

2nd episode wasn't much better. I like it when the show bounces back and forth between various groups, focusing on the Kingdom by itself... It just dragged. Next week looks more interesting.

I'm intrigued in the storyline with the Kingdom and tainting the pigs for the Saviors to eat. I wonder if that’ll help in the long run. I kind of wish they would always show a portion of the group each week also. It would better drive the stories and eliminate some fat.

Agree. I am not a fan of how they use an entire episode to focus on one place, or small group.

I liked how they kept Glenn's death accurate with the story in the comic, and that they changed how Abraham died in the tv show. In the comic, Abraham was supposed to die where the character Denise (chubby 'Doctor' girl with glasses from Alexandria) does in the show, with the arrow through the eye by the train tracks.

They've done so often through the years that we're just numb to the crappy slog story lines that don't lead anywhere and everyone involved dies by the end of the season.

That was a pretty poor episode. Boring and really added nothing to the story we didn't already know. They could have just taken 10 or 15 minutes to show the guns and such being taken and then used the rest of the episode time for something that's actually interesting.

LOL for now.... I'll give it a chance to pick up mostly because I've watched it for so long now. The Governor was a much better villain than Neagan so far IMHO.

They're branching out way too much with different characters situations. They're going to spend almost the whole season dedicating an entire episode to each character, and what they've been up to. I'm not sure if they'd thought of that when they sent everybody off in different directions at the end of last season, and the first episode of this one.

Yeah, the way the season is structured is awful. Nothing has any momentum at all.

I'd have stopped watching altogether if not for my wife continuing with it. If there's not an uptick shes likely to ditch it soon though. From what I understand ratings have been falling since the season premiere, although they are still huge.

I'm sure it will pick up a lot in the midseason finale to build some kind of buzz for the spring episodes. I just think they're getting a little arrogant. The producers need to take a story pacing 101 course.

I definitely don't anticipate the episodes anymore. I still watch it in batches, but more because it's one of the few shows that my wife and I will watch together (along with Agents of Shield, Timeless and Jessica Jones). It keeps her from tuning back to the hallmark channel.
