Notes

- Official site lists Thigpen as a RB. I put him as a "return specialist" for now.
- I think Daniel Thomas could be replaced by Jonas Gray, Cameron Marshall, or some other free agent cut later in camp.
- I think the 5th receiver will be a direct replacement for Marlon Moore's play on special teams. For now I left Tyms there as he was activated in week 17 last year.
- I'm unsure what they'll do with Charles Clay and Michael Egnew, but I've got them both on the roster as of now.
- I listed Dallas Thomas as T, until they presumably sign a free agent. I'd slot him at G after that. Miami mostly kept 8 OL last year, so I think there's going to be a surprise cut somewhere in there (Incognito?).
- Miami has a lot of movable parts in their front 7, so I don't think they'll keep a ton of guys.
- I stuck Jelani Jenkins as Ellerbe's backup at MIKE, mostly because I think he'll lop Austin Spitler off the roster due to special teams play.
- I kept 10 DBs. Miami did that most weeks last year, and it's something the Bengals almost always did when Coyle was there. I have Dimitri Patterson as a cap casualty.

I can see Gillislee taking a lot of touches from Thomas if he (Thomas) even makes the team.

In fact, don't be too surprised if by the start of the season, Gillislee is the starter over Miller. I'm not guaranteeing it, I'm just saying to be surprised if it happens.

 

If Lamar Miller doesn't improve his pass blocking and Gillislee's pass blocking skills translate from college to the pros, there is a decent chance of that happening.

At this point, Miller is the certainly more explosive home run threat, but Gilly seems to be a more complete back. It just wouldn't shock me, if they let Miller occupy the same role many of us wanted Tavon to be, and let Gilly be the traditional RB.

 

Slot receiver? That seems like the role most here envisioned for Austin.

 

Double whoa!! On the whole miller To receiver notion..Miller does catch the ball very well so hopefully we can line him up across the line when we go 4 or 5 wide.

I see a chance for Jones at cb and Collins at wr.

 

I could see Collins or Bumphis in that role. However, I remind myself as I look at the Packer roster, that all the receivers can run the full route tree and are a little bigger than the traditional slot receiver.

 

I think we naturally root for the underdog, but I believe Patterson is a favorite over a guy like Nolan Carroll or even Will Davis, and Thomas is a favorite over Gray.

 

IMO, the only reason Patterson wouldn't make the roster, won't be talent, it will be Ireland trying to save money with someone cheaper like Carroll or Stanford. If we keep the best 5 corners regardless of price, both Marshall and Patterson will make it, along with Taylor and Davis.

 

After looking at the offensive roster you posted as your picks at this time, I realize that besides possibly Wallace at WR, this offense really isn't that impressive looking.

The offensive line remains a huge question mark. It could actually be worse than last year if the players you have listed end up being the players they keep.

Tannehill needs to develop, but at this time he remains a question mark.

None of the RB's on the roster have ever been a starter in the NFL. Personally I would have preferred the Dolphins kept Bush, but we can only hope Miller is the back many people on here think he will be.

I wasn't a big fan of Fasano, but I don't think Keller is a big upgrade at the TE position. He might be a better receiver, but his blocking leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully Sims will be able to come in and provide more to the TE position than Egnew did last year. As far as Egnew is concerned , I have no idea if he will ever be a productive player in the NFL. Time will tell

At the WR position, I don't see Gibson as an upgrade to Bess. I would rather have seen the Dolphins keep Bess and sign him to a new contract. Hopefully Wallace will be the impact WR the Dolphins signed him to be and Hartline continues to have a few decent games during the upcoming season. As far as the rest of the WR's on your list goes, they are all huge questions marks right now.

I think the defense will continue to be the dominant unit on this roster and the offense will probably continue to struggle scoring points in 2013. It is just too bad the Dolphins weren't able to upgrade the LT and RG positions in the draft or in free agency, according to your present 53 man list. I also have concerns about the RT position with this list of players. Hopefully the Dolphins will sign one of the veteran RT's they have talked to in the last week. Martin protecting the blindside for Tannehill is a really scary thought, as far as I am concerned.

This roster might be good enough to win 8 or possibly 9 games, but I don't see this as a playoff roster. I think it will be at least one more year and further upgrades on the offense, before this team is a legitimate playoff contender.

If it wasn't for going up to get DJ, I would of went ballistic if we passed on Eifert at 12...basically I agree with you to some degree, the offense is not complete unless Egnew, Miller and Gibson tear it up, so those evaluations under his clock better be good,

I like Gillislee, but I can't see him starting over Miller. Miller's got better vision and is more explosive. He also wasn't as bad at pass-pro, IMO, as many on here would lead you to believe.

Like has been mentioned if gilly is a better blocker.....then who knows.

 

Since he's been a tackle for just 1 season I'd give another year learning the position. Now that we have Clabo, he can sit another year and maybe fill in for Clabo for a few series. They'll probably do the same thing with Thomas and Incognito.

 

Eifert was the player I wanted them to take at 12. I certainly won't argue with moving up to take Jordan, but I just wish we had more play makers on offense.

Wallace can certainly take it to the endzone on any given play. Miller has the speed to break long runs, but until he shows he can do it as a starting RB in the NFL, there remain questions about how effective he will be in the NFL as the primary RB on the team.

The rest of the skill players on the offense are rather mediocre at this time. Hopefully some of these players will take a giant step up and become impact players at their positions, especially Tannehill.

 

If the roster looks set, shift money forward from some of your major players. Cameron Wake, Mike Wallace, and Reshad Jones should get large amounts of future cash thrown towards them immediately to fill up the cap after June 1st. Move dollars forward to open up the situation in one year.

If you've got the 53 more or less set (more so than in other years) I think that's definitely appropriate.
