http://gamerant.com/witcher-3-blood-wine-end/ The makers all confirm that the expansion is the final thing that will be released for The Witcher 3, and that they have nothing in the works for future Witcher titles, though they don't completely close the door on the possibility at some point down the line. They've built a ton of goodwill with me and others though, and I'll be very interested in their future games now when they're released.
Cyberpunk 2077 and it's probably the game I'm looking forward to the most in my entire gaming "career" .
http://www.pcgamer.com/how-gwent-became-a-competitive-card-game-with-singleplayer-campaigns/ Lots of info about the stand alone Gwent game. I've never bought a game via download before, but if the single player campaign really is as deep as they suggest, it might become my first.
http://www.windowscentral.com/gwent-witcher-card-game-awesome Here's a really long, hands on review of the stand alone Gwent game. I've also decided to start the actual game anew, after getting all of the DLC and updates.
If anyone had played the game, but was on the fence about getting the two DLC additions, I strongly suggest that you do it. The first one, Heart of Stone, is great. The best analogy I can give with my own experience is that its like all of the good DLC for a game like Dragon Age or Mass Effect in one pack, with new characters, new missions, new equipment, game features, and it enlarges the game's primary map, putting things in areas that were otherwise empty. Its very much well worth it, and was the best DLC I'd ever seen... Until I started Blood and Wine. I don't have adequate words to say how awesome it is, other than its basically The Witcher 3.5. Its almost an entire new game piggybacked onto the primary one, plus you can go back and forth from it and the regular missions and areas as you desire. I don't know how far into it I am, but its amazing, and huge. My greatest gaming desire right now is that more studios emulate CR Projekt Red with all of the things that have done with this title.
I stalled on this game at like level 14....I am a completionist and I got a bit overwhelmed. I decided just to finish the story to see what it was about and I fell in love and finished it. Now I am working my way through the DLC. Outstanding Title deserving all the accolades .
http://www.dualshockers.com/andrzej-sapkowski-sold-rights-witcher-cd-projekt-red-9500/ The might explain author Sapkowski's apparent bitterness towards the games. He sold the rights to CDPR for less than 10k US in todays money.
The guy who should really be bitter about The Witcher is Michael Moorcock, creator of Elric. Geralt is a direct copy of Elric.
https://www.gamewatcher.com/news/the-witcher-4-what-we-want-to-see A pretty good, educated-speculation article about what might be coming later on in The Witcher 4. Obviously, CDPR has their hands full with other matters, but I'm always looking towards the future for more games up my alley.
As much as I loved The Witcher 3 and both expansions I'd be fine with them never making another Witcher game.
http://gametyrant.com/news/cd-projekt-red-reveals-that-the-witcher-series-is-not-yet-over As it turns out, CDPR is now saying that they will, at some point, make another Witcher game. But that it won't directly continue the story that ended in The Witcher 3. Many people think that it should focus on Ciri.
https://www.altchar.com/games-news/587616/cd-projekt-red-the-witcher-author-close-to-a-settlement CDPR has thrown author Andrzej Sapkowski a bone, and while not caving to his demands, have paid him a lump sum of some amount, suggesting that they want to continue to work together. This has of course lead to speculation that there could very well be more Witcher games in the future at some point down the road.
I don't have a clue on how designing a game works. Can they use the gaming engine from a previous game and just change what we see? So when it comes to Witcher the overall gaming experience is fine, but maybe they could change the characters, plot, etc. and make it a whole new game without having to start from scratch.
Well, any games that will come out in the future will be on the next generation of consoles, so a lot of the design will have to happen from the ground up. If they were making multiple games on the same console, like Ubisoft does for Assassin's Creed, or like with Sports games, then they can use the code and build on it and tweek it. But CDPR is a very small studio with only a limited number of people working for them. The good side of that is that they can create wonderful games that the public enjoys without the oversight of a corporate overlord like EA. The bad side is that it can take forever for them to make a new game. Bethesda (Elder Scrolls, Fallout) is the same way.
Man, you are listing some of my favorite games. Thanks for the insight. Definitely looking forward to the new releases.
Depending on the style of games that you enjoy, the next 18 months or so look to be kind of bleak for new releases. Not a lot on the horizon that interests me. However, once the next generation of consoles are out, things will really pick up. Elder Scrolls 6, Dragon Age 4, a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, more AC games, perhaps even new Mass Effect games, and other new properties are all on the way. But likely not until at least the end of 2020, and most will be later.
So...does Witcher 3 really hold up? Still a good game for someone who is RPG hungry? I'm a PS4 guy, so my other options are like....something in the Tales series. Maybe Bersaria.
One of the best games ever made. I played it through twice, the second time with all of the DLC. Its fantastic. I'm currently playing Assassins Creed Odyssey, which borrows a lot from TW3, and in very good ways.
https://www.dualshockers.com/the-witcher-author-cd-projekt-sign-new-deal/ Interesting to note that CDPR has signed a new deal with Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski to continue their relationship. While they also make Gwent, I have to think that this is good news for the hope of a fourth Witcher game once they're finished with Cyberpunk.
https://www.psu.com/news/rumor-the-witcher-4-is-already-in-development-due-no-earlier-than-2025/ There are a lot of rumors that CDPR has started the early production of The Witcher 4, with development based in their Vancouver studio. Hopefully they've learned from the universal praise that was heaped upon them from their work on TW3, and the universal scorn that came with Cyberpunk, what they need to do and not do.
https://www.psu.com/news/new-the-witcher-game-officially-in-development-will-use-unreal-engine/ Six months later, and CDPR has officially announced that they are in fact working on another Witcher game. My earlier feelings remain the same. Whatever nonsense they tried to get into with Cyberpunk needs to be thrown in the trash and go back to what works with this one. That said, they work slowly, so who knows if it will even come out on the new console's life cycles!
https://www.psu.com/news/cd-projekt...er-game-in-mind-for-the-franchises-next-saga/ CDPR again talks about the next Witcher game as being in pre-production, but also says that they plan on making more than one. And while they don't say it, it feels like they plan to make a trilogy out of it. Which is awesome, but hopefully we aren't playing them on the PS7 by that point.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2022/10/cdpr-just-announced-two-new-witcher-games Well, its not a new Witcher Trilogy, at least not yet. There are three games set in the Witcher universe being developed at the same time. One by CDPR themselves and two being outsourced to other studios.
https://www.psu.com/news/the-witche...-cd-projekt-red-will-utilise-unreal-engine-5/ Interestingly, one of the new Witcher games is a ground up remake of the first one, so that should be cool. Who knows how long it will take to develop, but I'm very interested.
