Let me go on record saying that this idea about letting the time on the No. 1 pick expire to save money is the ABSOLUTE DUMBEST idea I've ever heard of regarding the NFL draft. THE SINGLE DUMBEST, and I really question the football intelligence of those who think it's genius.
To be honest, I can't even believe we wrote a story on it (CLICK HERE), giving the idea validity because it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOO DUUUUUUMB. Here's why:
1. How often does a team get the opportunity to select the single best player in a draft? For the Dolphins it's happened only once, and that was in 1966. Illinois running back Jim Grabowski was the selection.

Yea i dont understand that logic at all!

The only reason I think this is even brought up is because the perception is that the team will save money. I believe that all that will happen is a lengthly hold out and a bunch of disappointed teammates and fans.

I totally agree. No agent will let their client sign for less than 1st pick money, regardless of when we jump in. That is a guarantee for a long, ill-tempered hold-out.
On top of that, it gives our beloved 'Phins the reputation of being cheap and under-handed. I don't like that thought at all! -
it would be the first player post-1990 to make 13 dollars an hour to play in the nfl

Well, yeah, it would be funny and probably make a laughing stock of the NFL in general. It would shock me if Tunaland circumvented the system in this way...it's just not their style. Aside from that, IF they did start this, who's to say that we'd be in time to really get the guy we want ??
I just don't see this happening...It's a shame that we have the first overall pick in a draft that doesn't have a premier, first rate, clear cut #1 that suits our needs best, but it was the same in 2004 with the #2 overall...Brown was a good choice, but the pickins were might slim at the top of that draft as well...
