Anybody else think thigpen should be our poormans sproles and not thomas. What did he have 1 catch for 50 yds and back to the bench? Or i guess he could be a liability in pass protection.
He did play a few more snaps, the ball never came his way again. Think 6-7 touches if we have a mismatch
I need to put CK's quote back into my sig... "Daniel Thomas' 3.5 YPC reign of terror will finally come to an end." Except add poor pass blocking to that (despite the coaches thinking he is good at it, I think)
Nah, as much as I like Thigpen's talent, he is not that sort of player. DTrain has 40 pds on him and is better suited to his role atm.
definitely worth it a few times a game. While Thomas has a couple of good runs every other game, the only real benefit is his pass protection.
It doesn't have to be either-or. Sherman needs to figure out a way to utilize Thigpen in space a few times a game, he's an X-factor. has been since college, not that I have to convince you.
I was never sure why we didnt utilize bush more like the lions r now.He is such a good recevier out of the backfield. Ireland sure ****ed up mot resigning him.
Exactly, he would cause fits for defenses in that role as we don't have a tailback with that skillset who plays often enough to create those mismatches.
Our entire offense is way more conservative than it could be if you really stop to think about it. We were supposed to play very up tempo ball but we don't. We have a dual threat qb who rarely gets to run read option. We never used bush correctly. We're not using wallace correctly. we play conservative mistake free football in an era where good teams take risks and think much differently.
He's been sucking at his original job which is returning, where it's all about full speed angles, as in never stutter step before you approach the wave, he has on every freakin return and it's driving me crazy.. I want Rishard Matthews to take his role.
Eh, not sure he's good enough in protection/route running. In games like the Saints when we completely abandon the run...sure, why not I guess. Bnt the guy can't carry the ball or pick up audibled blitzes, I don't think, if we're talking our base balanced offense. And just logistically, I mean, is he able to get practice reps behind Miller/DT to get into the flow?
Someone who gets caught from behind like that when there's nothing but daylight between him and the end zone can't be our kick returner.
what makes you think Matthews has any return ability that he'd be an upgrade over Thigpen. I know Thigpen isn't returning as well as he did last season, but I still believe we will have a couple of games this season where Thigpen has a great return that helps us win the game.
he was a very good, very strong returner in college. And that it looks to me like Thigpen is not playing well in his main job...
Bottom line is Thigpen makes plays. Two TD returns last year, his 50 yard run Monday, he makes plays and should get 3-4 touches a game along with return duties. I would maybe run a reverse or something with him, or try to get him freed up on a screen. As far as returning goes he has already taken one to the house which got called back because of a hold this year. I'm not worried about him returning as long as he doesn't fumble the ball, which is also why he should only get 2-3 looks a game on offense. He will cough it up if he takes a hard hit.
Could be why Spitler was resigned, he was a great STer and they were letting him return some kickoffs that were in the endzone, something they had not been doing previously. Add in the Saints rarely punted on MNF and his main skill was neutralized Thigpen has 1725 yds to go to reach 2k APY
I'd just be freaking happy if Sherman would end his mancrush on Daniel Thomas. You have a RB that at any given time can house it.. Why is he not on the Field? Why not run out Miller and Thigpen at the same time? Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
