Use a single space after a sentence, not 2 spaces. Link 2 spaces were meant for typewriters only. The letters on a typewriter are monospaced. Letters on a computer are not monospaced. Salaried employees aren't necessarily exempt from receiving overtime pay. Link Investigate, cause you may getting screwed. Post any thing like those. Please post real facts to back it up. No religion or politics.
People tend to mix up e.g. and i.e. i.e. does not stand for "for example" it stands for "that is". e.g. is "for example". Link
How about; there - their ensure - insure affect - effect etc. etc. Ultimately, the English language is so confusing to learn.
But, I still put two spaces after a period. It just doesn't look right with one. But, I still put two spaces after a period. It just doesn't look right with one. I corrected the one on top and left the bottom as is. They look the same don't they? That's because the this site actually corrects you. What you're seeing that looks right to you, is actually one space. You can quote my post and see the difference for yourself.
I've never seen or heard of anyone double spacing like that before. Must be the same people who stand when the wipe.
ive always double spaced after periods, but i took a typing class in middle school i think and that was what we were told.... im gonna test this auto correct theory This sentence ends with how many spaces. This one used two. This sentence ends with how many spaces. This one used one.
Well, well, well. I never noticed that. Mind you, I was brought up with the classic Word Perfect, the one that ran on my 486 DX super computer with a 2400 baud modem. Yeah, there was no mouse in that program, and Wolfenstein 3D was the best game in the world! Anyways, out of habit I will probably still use two spaces after a period. Like this. Anyways, out of habit I will probably still use two spaces after a period. Even though I just used one on this line. EDIT: Here is the masterful Word Perfect classic for all the younger guys.
Your wrong bro. The extra space definately effects the sentence. The difference is negligable; its an allusion. Also, I have issues with the sites you chose to site. Who looks into these things anyways?
Those fonts on those old platforms are monospaced. If you use a monospaced font its more acceptable to double space. If not, then its just incorrect. Ifyouthinkitsoktousetwospaceswhenoneiscorrectthenyoushouldalsothinkthisiscorrect.
Not even close to wrong. Double spacing with a non monospaced font is wrong. Do you work in the printing industry? Yeah those two crazy sites I quoted "about.com" & "slate.com" are completely bizarre sites that no one has have heard of before.
back to this sentences are unacceptable same with spaces i'll make my points one line at a time from now on nice guys finish last it's on
I always did the two space thing, but I'm also old enough that I learned to type (not well mind you) on a typewriter not a computer. I would guess that the people who are most surprised by the old rule are simply the product of computers, either due to age or other circumstances. As for the point of the thread, I struggle with affect and effect. No matter how many times I read the rule, I generally have to double check when I post something. I also see many people incorrectly use their and they're. And I'm not sure if this is within the constraints of the thread, but I see people struggle understanding the difference between causation and correlation. This comes up often with the stats posted on this site.
i have been programmed too late to turn back now henne sucks daboll sucks dolphins suck thank ozzy he resurrected my typing style i was being too nice

I used to write daily on Word Perfect. God I haven't thought about that program in at least 15 years.
