Sadly I dont think any one of those 4 guys last to the 3rd in a very QB hungry draft year.

More like Mcleroy from Alabama, Stanzi, Yates have better chances to drop to 3rd and beyond.

 

There is just no possible way in hell, barring an embarrassing arrest or freak accident from now till draft that Jake Locker falls to the third round. He'll probably go top half of the first. I'd pretty much be able to say the same about Mallet, although probably bottom half and maybe he slides into early 2nd. Kaepernick? Who knows. Doubt it. If we're looking to add a QB we should either take one at 15 or trade into the bottom half of the first, recoup a 2nd and take a guy like Ponder, maybe Mallet.

You really think Locker's gonna be off the board by the time we pick? Ahead of Mallett? Hmmm...not sure 'bout that. Possible, but I kinda doubt it. I think he'll go late first early second IMO.

As to the OP's question, I agree with SICK. I think in the third you're looking at guys like Yates and Stanzi. Both of whom could be a great value if still OTB in the third or fourth round.

The point on Quinn was that he was expected to go to the Fins because we had no one else at QB (still may not)....Once he dropped past us, it was expected that he may drop as late as the early 2nd round... The Browns moved up to get him late in the first and it apparently was a mistake, but he wasn't expected to go in like the top 5 or anything like that....His draft grades were in the 2nd round area. Guys drop during the actual draft for reasons of needs once you get past the top 5 or so 'can't miss' guys....after that, most teams resort to needs. Traditionally, from about #20 down, QB isn't going to be a need spot...

Quinn was not a real contender for the #1 overall spot during that draft...He was probably the most NFL ready QB at the time, but he wasn't a 'can't miss' prospect.

 

Simple answer is no.

I'm growing on the Mallett at #15 pick, even more so now with the questions about Ingrams knee.

 

Who knows. Based on what I'm hearing from various talking heads, a lot of teams ahead of us really like Locker. Skins are one team I've heard mentinoed. But that doesn't necessarily mean a whole hell of a lot.

 

Being that Locker, Mallett, Kaepernick, etc aren't going to fall past the early to mid 2nd rd, picking a QB in the 3rd is a big HELL NO!! There will be no talent worth our time in the 3rd rd. It would be a big mistake to waste another pick on a QB that we don't expect to challenge for a starting job THIS year. If Mallet or Gabbert aren't there in the 1st, then we need to use our draft picks to address other areas of our offense. I've had enough of this team passing on 1st rd QB's only to try and find a diamond in the rough in later rounds. If we don't go all in on a 1st rd QB, then we need to forget about looking for a QB in the draft

 

It is an opinion not shared by most draft pundits that Mallett or Ponder would be a waste of the 15th overall pick.
Right now, I'd have to say take Mallett if available, and if not, trade down and recoup a 2nd round pick and use the first two selections on an OL and a TE who's skill set would compliment Fasano's. It of course depends on who all is available at each pick and that is nigh on impossible to predict.

 

I'm still a fan a CKap ... but wouldn't take him in either the 1st or 2nd ... even IF we are given a chance to trade down. I'm just really not interested in picking a QB in RD 1 (albeit, some of the pundits on this site have made a pretty good argument for Ponder). Mallett did not impress with his segment with Gruden.

I will remain in the Henne is 'good enough' to get us to the SB with dominant Defense, a good OL and a running game.

We do need another QB for the roster - as Thigpen needs to go ...

 

Will this draft be a repeat of the 83 (6 in the first with 4 in the top 15) or 99 (5 in the top 12) QB draft or will it be a normal draft? What with the non CBA non FA period in effect who knows what teams will do.

My feeling is that they will be VERY conservative and go the safe route for the most part giving us the chance to get who we really want if we want a QB so why wait? I would not.

What if the Judge lifts the LO and we go to the 2009/2010 rules, the top players will get a huge payday, and moving up or down suddenly becomes much easier. Jeff gets his wish and we pick up that second we lost, so really who knows.

 

99 draft where only 1 of the top 5 QBs turn out franchise caliber.

 

I doubt Ricky Stanzi drops to the third round either. He's a hot prospect right now. A smart team like New England will grab him in the second round and groom him behind Brady.

 

McElroy is my favorite project QB, I wouldn't hesitate to draft him in the third but he probably last until a little later

 

I could see him in round five, honestly. I think he will be a better player than some project.
