A fade to Hartline on 4th down from inside the 1 yd line. If that's what Daboll comes up with during the timeout, he's a F***ing moron. They deserved to have it shoved down their throat from 99 yds out.

I think it should've been a run...but Daboll has done more with Henne than Henning ever did Already. Like what I saw from Daboll offense, EXCEPT in the run game. Terrible, but the O-Line looked bad.
-
ummm maybe it's because a fade is one of the lowest percentage plays in football and they threw it to Hartline of all people....it's not like Marshall isn't 6'4 much more talented

This actually is a good point. It's what "wide open" offenses do in those situations.

I wasn't a fan of the call at first either. Not to Hartline anyways. Daboll didn't even give us a chance to succeed in that position IMO. Id have rather seen a run by LJ or something. a TE pass, anything but that on 4th down. If it was 3rd... ok, sure, maybe.
-
So, now the 4th & goal pass was too aggressive? That's what spread it out offenses do.
I would have liked to have seen a run there, a QB sneak really. But, are personnel is set up for this type of offense. The Eagles struggle in that situation. The Colts struggled with it for years. Hell, even the Patriots struggle with it, although we didn't get to see it much.
We left points out there certainly. However, does anyone else feel like our offense may be able to win a track meet once in a while now?
I don't see the defense playing this poorly all year long. I was very pleased with the offense and Chad Henne. -
I like Daboll's offense. Huge improvement over last year. That was a shady call tho.

That call didn't lose the game. Brady killed us with the no huddle...

I think it's okay to complain about one or two playcalls here or there, but to use them as an indictment of our new offensive coordinator seems a little short-sighted, especially since Chad Henne played his most complete game as a quarterback since, well, ever.

Terrible call IMO.
But Daboll called a great game otherwise. This was Game 1 following a lockout-marred offseason. Imagine when they get comfy and more experienced.
Looking forward to what I hope is years of this offense.SeanP, PhinishLine, Aquafin and 6 others like this. -
It was a bad call, IMHO. But, it was the only call Daboll made that I seriously questioned. Last season, there were about 6-8 of those a game.
-
That was a huge play, which if successful would've put us only a td behind. 1 play later Welker goes 99 yds. and the games over.
Unbelievable call from the 1/2 yard line. Way too close to run a fade especially to a short receiver. Larry johnson is sitting on the bench why not give it to him.
And the lack of understanding between Henne and Marshall near the goal line is inexcusable. Surely they've practiced passes from inside the 5 hundreds of times. -
Bess was open on the in route, but i have nothing bad about to say about our offense other than the OL.

Marshall wouldn't have gotten the 1-1 coverage out there though. The better pass would have been to the inside shoulder and the front pylon after the defender turned his back. I agree the fade was a terrible call. Actually the correct play would have been Polite up the middle for the TD. What a terrible decision.
-
He called a good game, but that was brutal. At least throw it to Marshall. But really you don't make that call anyway. It's the worst ball that Henne throws. Run a cross, an out, a quick slant, go under center and run play action, really just about anything other than a fade to Hartline.
But overall, you can't say that much about Daboll. We had nearly 500 yards of offense and that's the best Henne has looked in his entire career.Jagfish likes this. -
I agree that Daboll seemed to call a very good game, but it's hard to excuse that call at a key point in the game.

The call itself was stupid. I thought they should have had Henne sneak it in. They weren't accounting for Henne's feet at all, and while not the most swift scrambler, he was effective. A quick count QB sneak is what I would have done. Oh well.
The Patriots were just...better. I hate to say it, but its the truth. The good news is that Henne kicked *** against a pretty formidable opponent. If we can get out of the first part of our season okay, and he continues to play like that, we will be fine. -
The 1st play offside against Merling was the call of the game. Why was he even starting?
-
Henne looked in command for sure and Reggie Bush looked good as well.

You see it? I saw it....
WTF is wrong with Marshall? -

Hell we're gonna look alot better even in Nov/Dec.
This is an offense we can win with...no doubt about it.Killerphins likes this. -
Horrible call. Either run or quick slant to Marshall.
-
-
Run/pass option to the wideside. Henne has shown his wheels; let him take it in.
-
Sam if Henne throws it right as Bess turns its a TD.....I wouldve perfered a quick slant or toss to Bush, but fades to Hartline?? Owell, great work passing game, keep it up and we contend for a wild card spot.
-
The one thing I will not complain about tonight was the play calling, I liked the more aggressive offense after that crap we had the last two years!
-
Bess shouldn't even be mentioned on this play. It wasn't a read, he was going to Hartline from the snap.

Our offense looked better in a loss than the Jets looked in a win, if that is any consolation. I pray our defense figures something out before the annual Texans *** whooping next week, though.
